Ever listen to video game music while on the computer?

Do you ever listen to video game music while you're on the computer, and if so, how often?

  • No, but I have thought about it.

I myself listen to just music from video games almost exclusively, and unless I'm watching some video, I always am listening to music when I'm online. :D

Just another thread idea I had, made it a poll. As for what video games I listen to music of, it really depends, but for the last few days it has been from the Grandia games exclusively (Grandia, Grandia II, and Grandia III. They have really excellent music in them. ^.^).

So do you ever listen to video game music while you're on the computer, and if so, how often? And feel free to get into what video game music you like to listen to, as I touched on the subject myself for a moment. :)

Cool. =D These are games I like to listen to music from:

Final Fantasy games, particularly VII and VIII.
Phantom Brave
Disgaea

And depending on what I am into, I may listen to some retro, old school video game music, or music from Pokémon games (well, there is a couple that are from the movies, too), or Super Smash Bros. music (I have a ton of that since the old days when I was ssbmaster. xP). ;)

Oooh I do! but not all the time because I also listen a lot to movie soundtracks. I listen to Uncharted, Resident evil, Tekken, Kingdom hearts, Metal gear sold and of course FF music. Lately I listen to FFVII music and FF covers.

^ I do occasionally listen to some music from Tekken 6, only ever bothered to download three songs from it though, let's see if I remember the names of them...without checking to see the titles. :hmmm:

Mystical Forest
Lightning Storm
...Electric Fountain (had to look this one up, I couldn't remember it for the life of me. :gonk:)

My favourite of those few is probably either Lightning Storm or Mystical Forest...might be leaning towards Mystical Forest, it's pretty cool video game music. ^_^

Yes I do.

I don't listen to game music all of the time, but I have certain phases.

Final Fantasy music (prominently those composed by Nobuo) I listen to more than anything else and there are hundreds of FF songs on my ipod.

Other than that I've recently been listening to the soundtrack of Croc a lot... The composers (the group of them as a single artist) is already one of the artists in my top 15 on my Last.fm account. They shot right up there within a few months.

I've just started to listen to the MediEvil soundtrack thanks to Tsuk who showed me how to get it. :awesome:

I've got a few songs from other games too... I have and listen to the Uncharted theme tune (well Drake's Theme, which essentially is the theme tune), and I also listen to a few songs from the dragon-riding game called Lair.

I wouldn't say I have an incredible amount of game music yet... I've only just starting getting into listening to all the great music on PC that I used to listen to while playing games.. Well other than FF anyway... I've had FF tunes on my PC for years...

I plan to get more from more games soon.

I listen to the final fantasy games music and some from megaman too, but otherwise than that i'm not listening that much to video game music.

Quite often I download the soundtrack from my favourite games to listen to, I'd say video game OST makes up at least 30% of my music library. I don't usually listen to it when I'm on the go - I only carry an 8GB iPod now, and I have certain songs I like to walk to - but when I'm sitting down in the evening, it comes up quite frequently.

The soundtracks of the FF games tend to be the only videogame music I have listened extensively to. I have some tracks from FFIV, FFVI, FFVIII, FFIX, and FFX on my iPod, and also on my laptop. I don't listen to them all the time. I occasionally put them on just to hum along to them. I also have "Suteki Da Ne" and "Kimi Ga Iru Kara" in my files.

Other videogames - I don't listen to their music as much. I do rather enjoy some Zelda and Disgaea tunes though while I'm using my computer. Disgaea's tracks really do fit the game's comical kind of story.

Anyone viewing this thread, should already know this, but just in case going to mention OST stands for Original Soundtrack. ;]

And my MP3 got busted months ago, I've had no music to listen to when I got out for walks, it really does help with the adrenaline and pace, I can go at a better pace longer to the tune of some of my favourite music (again, video game music. :wacky:).

Planning on asking for a new one, or maybe an iPod for my birthday, which was 5 months away yesterday, so it is almost five more months at the soonest before I can have some on-the-go music to listen to while I get much needed exercise... <_<

Absolutely yes. Mainly because when I'm on the computer I'm usually writing, and most of the game music I listen to has no lyrics so it's not as distracting as regular music; but also because game soundtracks have more ethereal, fantasy-sounding songs, naturally, and it's better for setting the mood. My favorites are:

-The Secret of Evermore soundtrack, composed by Jeremy Soule (he's also done work in Elder Scrolls, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, etc., though I haven't heard much of these). The SOE soundtrack is probably one of my favorite game soundtracks ever and I can listen to most of the songs on it for hours on end. Here are a few of my favorites if anyone is interested:

"The Queens":

"White Castle":

-The Xenosaga soundtracks (Shinji Hosoe, Yuki Kajiura, Yasunori Mitsuda), though mainly only a few songs in particular (sorry if the quality's crappy):

"Labyrinthos":

"Omega System":

"Abel's Ark":

-And, of course, FF--"Into the Darkness" from IV, "Eruyt Village" from XII, and "Sprouting" from X, just to name a few :D

Of course I do. I listen to video game music all the time. Mostly Xenosga, Lost odyssey and Final Fantasy. Pokemon themes are really good too. I love the epic legendary pokemon themes. As for FF I listen too Kimi ga iru Kara alot, Eternal Love, Suteki da ne, To Zanarkand, One winged angel, Otherworld etc etc.. Lol I listen too Alot!

Legend Pokémon themes..that reminds me, that one for the battle against Lugia in SoulSilver is an excellent piece of battle music, and I haven't listened to it in a while. :hmmm: But I'm hooked on Grandia soundtracks now tbh, they're almost too good some of those battle themes, the guitar really rocks throughout some of them. :monster:

I get some portable media player type thing again then I can't wait to go out walking to some of this music, it's gonna give me all kinds of energy. xD

Grandia Music- Battle 2 (ambushed theme)
Grandia II OST - FIGHT!! Version #1
Grandia II OST FIGHT!! Version #3 ~ Middle Boss Battle
Grandia 3 Music Big Boss Battle V2 (Attack of a Flash)

:D

Yes. But I only have listened to some occasionally, not often.

I don't often listen to game soundtrack music, but every now and then I will.

It's a rare occurance but if I'm in the mood I'll add it onto my playlist.

I mainly listen to Final Fantasy X's soundtrack.

My favourite. <3

Quite often. In fact, I'm listening to video game music as I type this :D
Although there isn't much variety in my picks, it's usually FF and Kingdom Hearts, occaisionally Chrono Cross/Chrono Trigger. I've come to realize that there's a song for almost any place and time in my day.

Yeah, I like to listen to music while I'm doing dishes, makes it a lot more tolerable. =P Haven't been able to do that for the last while though. Any one know of any really good music from perhaps not so well known video games? Grandia was huge for me, hearing music from that, I haven't listened to a thing since.

I know I keep bringing Grandia up, but damn, good soundtracks are good. Smashing good. :monsmash:

I listen to vidya game music often. It makes up a rather large chunk of my music collection at the moment. :hmmm:

Every now and then, I'll start getting bored with the music that I listen to on a daily basis, and I then listen to nothing but vidya game music for the next month or two. So it's safe to say that I listen to vidya game music more often than I do regular music.

Just my opinion, but I prefer instrumental music, that is as opposed to music with singing in it. I think stuff like the voices in One-Winged Angel are cool though, referring to regular singing of song lyrics in general. :P

I never listen to video game music while on the computer. Video game music, to me atleast, serves the specific purpose of adding a mood or atmosphere to the game. For that reason I just don't find video game music interesting outside the context of the game.
