FINAL FANTASY VIII - Too hard?

It took me from the time the game came out [some time in the 1990s] till just about two years ago to FINALLY beat the LAST BOSS!! [I was able to beat Ultima Weapon in that Underwater Lab place... ^^;] That game was soooo hard!! The final boss had about, what... *starts counting* ... 4 forms? That was the longest and most difficult battle than Ultima Weapon!! :gasp: I've played the game just to beat the final boss so much, that every time I watch the ending scene with the credits, it freezes!! Oh well... I still love the game. :D But my question to you is:

Was FINAL FANTASY VIII too hard to beat, or do you think otherwise?

Please tell me what you think about this topic. Thanks!!

I really didn't find it too hard. I just played it for the first time this past summer. However, I didn't go for Ultima Weapon and all that.

I think it was a decently challenging game. Now, I hated the giant Cactaur. Hated it with a passion. But I didn't find it to be so overwhelmingly hard that I never finished it. The only game I did that with is XII. Still haven't beaten that...

I wouldn't say the game was hard - the monsters levelling up with you was soo flawed, you could just remain low leven throuhout the game whislt junctioning 100 magics to your stats and being stupidly powerful. It was also ridiculously easy to level up. 1000exp per lever for EVERY level was silly.....

I do agree to having a hard time on Ultimecia first few times I plyed. I only recently found out the more magic you junction - the stronger you are :wacky:

I think, it can be a challenge if you don't know what you're doing, but it's painfully easy once you get the junctioning sussed. Not that I strolled through it all with no problems, I just didn't find it that hard really

I didn't find it particularly hard (although I didn't go for any side quests besides Odin mind you).

Of course there were some bosses which gave me trouble, I think I only beat Adel out of shear luck. Ultimecia was one of the harder final bosses in the FF series, she put up a good fight and almost pawned me.

But as a whole the game was pretty balanced for me, not too easy, not too hard. Once you get a grip on the Junctioning system, it's pretty easy to cruise through most of it relatively comfortably.

It was tricky in places, Ultimate Weapon was a total bitch. But I still havn't done Omega yet. I'm saving him for my next playthrough. I'm sure you have to get a ridiculous amount of lionhearts on him.

Anyway, the final boss is still pretty hard compared to others. Sephiroth in VII was hard too. IX was ok, X was so so easy once you had break damage limit. as was X-2 with cat nip. XII wasn't too challenging either, once your beasted yourself up enough. So I would say VIII was pretty hard, but maybe they wanted to make it tougher than VII?

I thought that VIII was the easiest of the lot, to be quite honest. Maxing out Squall's strength stat early meant that almost nothing stood much of a chance. So long as you had a grip of the junction system, you were fine.

As for the fights themselves, the only one that bothered me was Omega Weapon and, even then, it was just a matter of bad luck. Ultima wasn't too difficult, for me, and the only actual challenge I faced was stayling alive long enough to use Degenerator on a Malboro.

I too thought it was one of the easiest games I've played in the series.

I mean, if you don't want to fight high level bosses, just keep your levels low as well. Junctioning out-weighs the influence that leveling does in this game.

I would say though, that even at low levels, the final battles can be quite a challenge you go in their blindly. When Ultemecia starts taking away your abilities and commands, it's a bitch if you depend solely on them throughout the game.

It was the first RPG I played so I found it challenging only because I had to get used to the way things work. But overall I thought it was a pretty easy game. I did not have a lot of trouble in the game. Except that time you have to fight the mobile type 8 or something. That thing took me a while.
But I don't really find any FF difficult. At least the ones I tried (I, IV and VII to XII). IV was most difficult in my opinion. I seemed to die more often in that one. Never played the others long enough to get a good impression.

Going to vote for yes. The game has a very complexed leveling up system and the Junction system isn't really simple to understand and use.

By the middle of the second CD. The bosses start to get tougher. ( Like the Blue Tank by the Missile base ) and it's hard to judge whether to level up a bit more for some more HP or just stay the level that you are and keep it low.

By the 4th CD the final battle is a long and tight struggle. Ultimecia throws everything at your characters and is rather unforgiving. ( Never got passed her, borrowed a friend's game to view the game's ending )

It's also quite harder to find and upgrade your weapons, if you can't do that your walking around with very old and out-dated weapons by the end of the game.

It was kinda easy, since Rinoa had actually a limitbreak which can let you cast "The End" and that is a very annoying magic let you kill the monster without even doing anything, and really the monsters wasn't hard, you can reach level 99 at the first of the game but it would be the same thing, since the monsters also level up too. :\

Wasn't it Selphie who had the "The End" magic?
I never used that one though. Made it even more easy. I beat Ultimecia the first time using the Hero you get from one of the cards. Can't remember what card. I used to play those cards hours on end.

I voted for kinda hard.

The majority of the game I found fairly straightforward. However, the fight with Ultimecia at the end killed me about a thousand times, so I had to go out and train. I could always remember beating her and then getting crushed by her GF.

I voted kinda easy. A lot of the limit breaks were super overpowered, and you can simply draw 300 aura spells from Seifer on your second fight with him and use those spells on every difficult boss fight you run into, and pretty much obliterate them. Lionheart will kill just about anything you run into in a few shots.

So so Easy.

Even Ultimecia was easy for me. Granted I AP Ammoed and Lionhearted her ass into oblivion, but that's not the point.

The game is so retardedly easy it's unreal. It was the first FF game I picked up and I thought "This might be a challenge"... Erm no. The junctioning system as everyone else who agrees its easy, makes the leveling pretty much pointless.

I have to agree with Kelly on the leveling. 1000 exp a level was ridiculous. Made it FAR to easy to get to max level.

And then, The End with Selphie and Degenerator with Quistis.... makes the game WAY to easy.

[/rant]

See, that's the thing... I understand the Junction system extremely well, and I leveled up Squall, Rinoa, and Zell [my strongest besides Selphie, Quistis, and Irvine, whom are still at levels 5-9... ^^;]. Squall is 100, Rinoa is 99, and Zell is 98 going to 99. I have everyone's ultimate weapons, and all of Squall's, Rinoa's, and Zell's Overlimits, and I have plenty of Auras in Squall's inventory. I also have my dominate three characters with 9999 HP, Rinoa knows Recover, and Zell knows Revive. I have all the summons except maybe one, but I have Eden, although summoning it is extremely slow, but I have an extremely strong Cactar in Zell's GF summons. Rinoa is awsomely quick with Alexander, and Squall's Shiva just loves him. *nods*

So, as you can see, I have almost max on everything, including items and magic. Luckily, I cast Shell and Protect with Squall and his Triple ability as soon as I begin to fight Ultimicia's GF, because of that Impulse attack... So, this is what my stats in the game look like. *nods*

If you are a crappy player than that game is going to be hard but if you prepare for a long game it is not that hard. You should think it might be long its four disk. people confuse hard with long like Kyoko-Zelch

I DON'T confuse it. I actually see that it's a short game, because I play it 24/7. But it's difficult because of my ridiculous level. I even go to the Island Closest to Heaven and Hell just to level up. So, don't think I don't understand. Because I do. :eek:uttahere:

Less of the insults please
.

I didnt even find the game relatively hard at all. It was a breeze through really, just junctioning my magic to the right slots and getting the draw of magic out took a little time. I beat Ultimecia the first time i got to her, she was quite easy too.
