Do you miss Nobuo Uematsu?

The ONE song that I will always remember from any FF game, was the one in the final battle of FFX. I think they should add some of The Black Mages (I know Nobuo Uematsu music, but in Heavy Metal versions) for bossfights

I like the songs that he composes.
Well, his music was one of the factors that drawn me into the game itself, after all.
Especially so for IX, my first game, which i believe, also have one of the best music in the series.

Nobuo Uematsu was really able to hit the right keys for me. Sometimes I'm not sure I like a song because it's associated to something I enjoy a lot (a memory), or because it's really a good piece of music.

I think when it came to FF music, it was both. Even today I have my ff6 ost on my ipod, and when I just play it from the beginning, it makes me happy. It can re-imagine every scene as the tracks play. It's as if I'm turning on the game, listening to the opening tune, in Narsh, Locke comes to the rescue, etc. The music was very memorable, and so catchy.
I think he had a good touch. I really think his music was a great part of the series.

Also, is it just me, or do some of you also get really nostalgic whenever they listen to the classic FF main theme? The one they'd play on the title screen.

I do think the music lacks something - that traditional FF element - but it's still good. I really liked some of the music in X-2, and am veeeery glad 1000 Words was composed, so I don't mind the fact Nobuo didn't compose it.
XII's music was less impressive, and too classical, but was still good and added to the game. I think it was just less...emotionally expressive? But the characters weren't either so that fitted. :P

I think he was fitted best to make FFs' music. Those pieces of his were wonderful.I doubt I'll feel the FFs that will come out the way I felt for the old FFs.

Uematsu has obviously done something right, half of the FF fanbase are essentially his loyal followers now. But I won't particularly miss him. Some of his soundtracks have been bad. Just, bad. And some of his supposed great works have about 10 - 20 good tracks and a whole bunch of filler in there to make up the rest of the soundtrack. That said, I felt that 8, 9 and 10 were his best works, they were starting to become more consistently good than his previous scores for the games.

But his compositions for Blue Dragon then put my mind to rest about the matter, Sakimoto's XII soundtrack wiped the floor with it. I more disappointed at the thought that he's unlikely to be involved in many SE games from now on, although he's unlikely to be short of work in general.

I miss him BIG time. FFXII just didn't have the same atmosphere without him. Coincidentally I was just talking about him to somebody else. Only other game series to have a great composer like him was Metal Gear Solid.
He will always be missed and always on my mind when I hear a FF track for generations to come.

Speaking of Nobuo, pardon the ignorance but why did he leave Square Enix?

His music for Final Fantasy X is one of the best I've heard in a console game in a long time... Its hard to find other game series with such excellent and powerful music, those that can give that real connection with the characters...

Heck, I'm not even a FF gamer (yet) but I've grown to love Yuna so much that my entire online presence revolves around her... The music i listen such as "Eolmana Johuelgga" (Korean version of Suteki Da Ne) and even the "To Zanarkand" piano / orchestra piece all make me think of the game and even my beloved Yuna...

I'll miss u for sure, Sir Nobuo!

:O Less emotionally expressive? The Battle for Freedom (Vayne's Final Form theme) has to be one of the best pieces of music not only in FF history but in the history of recent gaming. I can name many, many songs from the FFXII OST that are memorable (to me at least): Ashe's Theme, Ozmone Plains, Rabanastre, the Imperial theme, etc. Although I must admit some of it was used many times which could detract from the appeal, and it also seemed that some of the music while good was relegated to the background, something that didn't happen with Uematsu. Do I miss Uematsu? In a sense yeah. He's a great composer and it would be unfair to compare him to Sakimoto, as they have vastly different styles and Nobuo helped create some of the best music in gaming, but if they give a chance to another composer like Sakimoto in this case, I'm not gonna get upset about it. Just my opinion, though. :P

i miss him. his music for the FFs was amazing pieces of art. i doubt anyone will be able to match his music efficiently. for me, losing him was a serious blow to the people at square enix.

Ya Rly

I could just tell something was missing from FFXII. The only song i liked from FFX-2 was memory of lightwaves. The best ff songs were from FFVII, VIII and X. And FFV coz it has battle with gilgamesh in it :P

All of these were made by Uematsu remember. I hope he makes a comeback in furute games

Somnus IS admittedly really heartfelt and emotional....i love it :)

not really...:eek:uttahere:
Then I suggest you buy / replay FF1-10 and remidn yourself what a great composer of music Nobuo was. Honestly I havent felt the same with any other game franchise than I have with Final Fantasy, and Nobuo is the cause.

Whenever I hear some tracks, straight away I feel my emotions coming through, and a certain magic with Nobuo's work is felt. I don't know how to put it in words. Best remedy for you realy is to remind yourself what his compositions sounded like. Then compare it to some of the more recent installments which lack the magical, catchy qualities and have mostly bland tracks...

To put it short Final Fantasy music went from brilliant (music that stood out and could bring tears to even the toughest mens eyes) all the way down to music out of any other game.. Music that fades int he background and you don't realy listen to...

I certainly wouldn't pick up Crisis Core PURELY to listen to the music... Whereas I found myself doing that several times on FF1-10... Sad I know.. I've conquered that by downloading the soundtracks and several remixes.

yes very much so.....:sad2:Nobuo Uematsu WHYYYYYYYYYY AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHWAHAHAHWHWHWAHWAHAWHWA WHYYY.

but seriously tho i thought his music was awsome and 10 wouldnt be the same without it and 12 didnt impact me like 10 did because 10's music was way better

Yea the music was awesome he did many, great example all FF game from 1 - 10, and FFXII had pretty much bad music so yea we need Nobuo Umatsu D:

well i LOVE uematsus music but his best would have to be

ONE WINGED ANGEL from ffvii

final fantasy just isnt final fantasy without one winged angel

I can't pinpoint a favourite. One Winged Angel is good, but theres something I like in most, if not all of his tracks. I can't get enough of it.

Terra's theme, Cid's theme, Your'e Not Alone... All of it is just beautiful.

Speaking of Nobuo, even though he resigned from SE, isn't he still composing the music for the upcoming FF13?

That's what i read in Wikipedia actually... So looks like Nobuo is still doing his work on the FF games...

I'm not sure. He owns his own company called Smile Please now, and produces music for various companies. So it's not impossible for us to see him again.

Still, I think he is still pretty much in a Final Fantasy frame of mind, down to his work in the band The Black Mages. I wouldn't say we have lost him completely, I just wish he'd decide to do a few more soundtracks fast before FF goes musically out of control. :eek:uttahere:

of course i miss him. all of those games had memorable soundtracks, but i did notice memorable tracks were somewhat absent in ff12!!! grrr, bring him back i say!...one of the many elements that made the series so great, it wasnt the same without him
