Exactly. I do not understand how the mind of such obsessed fans work. In fact I used to think that much of this is just superficial. Surely it must be an act, I thought, no one can truly be like this. I just don't know how anyone could have such a black and white way of thinking. Surely we've moved on as a human race to a stage where we have learnt to accept other people's opinions, whether they be offensive or just plain wrong.

Twilight however is just a medium of entertainment. It's such a trivial thing! Those barbaric people in Walmart and those blood-craving girls can't see that. It disturbs me that they behave like it is anything more- like the second coming of Jesus or something. It is childish as you said, and saddening. What have we as a civilisation become as a result of this?

I hope those attackers received the swipe of justice they totally deserve.

I saw a woman who was like forty fawning over Robert and Jacob on GMA. It was creepy, because they're supposed to be teenagers in the movie, and the book, and here's this older woman calling them sexy. It's creepy.

My personal favorite part of the whole peice was the mother who left her kids home alone, or so she said, to go and wait in line for tickets for New Moon. It cracked me up in a sick sort of way.

I think it's worse that it's not just girls my age or younger, but woman my mother's age. They should know the difference.
 
Being a 40 year old and perving over a 17 and 23 year old is abit much, and also leaving your kids home alone just to go buy New Moon tickets is really crossing the line there. I would think with her being a mother she'd be a lot smarter about that stuff. get a babysitter if she insists on going and buying tickets right now.

New Moon is gonna be in theaters for awhile, so there was honestly no excuse for that behaviour. Being a mother myself and a fan of the Twilight saga myself (but NOT an overly-obsessed one mind you) and hearing this kind of stuff sickens me. It's by no means amusing or funny. It's just downright ridiculous.

I completely agree with you, Mandi. Especially after reading that story about those two children that died in a fire in Memphis; their mother left them home alone while she and her aunt ran errands. Things like that just piss me off. >_>

And this is just beyond stupid. I can understand someone obsessing over something they really enjoy but to go this far is psychotic. It's a fictional story. Rob is not a vampire. They need to get a grip. And if they are teenagers, their parents certainly need to step in.
 
Oh my gosh, I didn't hear about that story. How sad! I mean what parent in their right mind would leave their young children alone while they go gallavanting around the city doing god knows what or running stupid errands or shopping. I don't understand WHY they couldn't take the children with them or just go get a sitter if they didn't want to bring them along. Parents nowadays are so fucking stupid and it disgusts me the way children are brought up or treated. It just infuriates me that a mother would actually leave her little one at home to run off and buy a ticket for a teenage flick. It's bullshit.

Interesting, though I'd love to attempt to criticise it and see if anyone would try beat me up. I'm a big Twilight fan, not a Twihard and would yet criticise the series for a few things in it.

The obsession needs to stop or else someone's going to really get hurt. Or even worse. Die.
 
Who leaves their kids alone at home to do anything? Dumb shitheads who shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. This reminds me of how parents used to leave their kids in the car while they ran into gas stations just to find them gone when they got out.

Seriously, I'm starting to think that you should have to have some sort of license to have children.

I insulted Twilight once in front of a fan, and he creeped me out about it. Seemed to think that Vampires were real, and that Twilight is like some sort of bible for them. I stopped talking to him after that. You know I'm a big HP fan, but I don't believe in Hogwarts.
 
Just watched on the Alan Titchmarsh show that the Church is kicking off over Twilight. Its a work of fiction you twats! They tried to ban The Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter. Stop trying to band something people enjoy and like. Its fucking fiction (well for the sane ones anyway!), stop getting rid of everything people like. I hate the Church sometimes.
 
The church is famous for putting it's nose where it doesn't belong. They thank that their actions are so holy, despite how bad some of them have been, and then freak out over a book. Of course, that don't have to make sense, because they are the living embodiment of God's will, at least if you ask them.

You know what, I read all the Twilight books, and, while I don't think they were great, they weren't the worst thing I read. But then I met the fans, who are all OMG!Edwardissohot!!, and I started to hate it. Now I detest it.
 
I'm rather amused, reading this article. It simply goes to show how far these die-hard fans would go for their beloved eh. It almost seems they'll be willing to die if their idol told them to. Makes me wonder if the show had been about some crazy sacrifice... Nevertheless, I'll have to commend their dedication...

They may love their idol to this extent, but I'll say they do not love him so much, considering how selfish they had been when imposing their demands on him. If I were Pattinson, I'd be thoroughly regretting having came into this acting industry.. Maybe hate Stephanie Meyer as well :P
 
I knew it would only be a matter of time before the Twilight fever got out of hand. Personally I think Twilight is an insult to literature, but if vampire romance is your thing, by all means indulge in it. But don't leave your common sense at home! However the hype doesn't seem to be about the literature so much as the Hollywood adaption of the movie. That mother didn't neglect her children so she could finish up the final chapters of New Moon. The obsessed teenagers didn't have a real person to ask to suck their blood with just a book in front of them. Now that Hollywood has made their obsession real, tangible, it has fuelled their idolatry. It's rather sad, as more people seem to have watched the movie and had wet dreams about Robert Pattison and the lead actress (I forget her name) than the actual characters in the written pages.
However, one cannot blame the storyline, the author or the vampire romance genre as a whole for the actions of these crazed few. There have been countless examples of obsessed fans of various entertainments. There are also many level-headed, "normal" fans of the same forms of entertainment. It's very quick to point a finger at Stephanie Meyer and say "Look what you've done, look how you've twisted these people!" but it's not her fault any more than it was Ozzy Osbourne's fault that some guy killed himself while listening to Black Sabbath. They are creating entertainment - not a doctrine.
But with any craze it is only a matter of time before dangerously obsessed people crawl out of the woodwork and make a bad name for it.
 
I love the books and I have some of the merchandise. But OMFG the fans!? As someone pointed out, you start to hate the series because of these OTT psychos who cant tell fact from fiction! Its so upsetting because there are ... well .. normal-ish lol fans out there who know the difference. Its becoming like part of a mob culture, you dont like it, you get a baseball bat to the face! Its a book people and keep it that way. Its so sad to see complete and utter twats ruin something people like. To me they are no different then chavs. They destory something because they think it belongs to them. Well it doesnt. Get a fucking grip. Or Ill get a good one on your neck ...

I think that's it's a good point about it being the movie and not the books. People weren't nearly as bad before the movies, at least not where I am. Then, suddenly it was being potrayed in a movie, and everybody starting falling for the two main leads. I don't have a problem with that. I only go to see the HP movies because of Emma, but I would never ask, if I ever met her, to do something that she did in the movies. It would be plain insulting.

However, I find it hard to feel sorry for someone who knew what he was getting into with the whole "sex god" thing. You shouldn't complain about something you made yourself.
 
Wow......that article just shows how.......idiotic those fans are........Someone should just stop this series before it gets worse......to shut down the movie productions or somethin......The two leads in the twilight saga arent even all that great at what they do. People I know who have read the book are disgusted with the way the movies are goin....The fans are crazier than.....than....than anyone I've ever known.....bleh, we should kill it while we still can or else there may be little teen girls murdering others as an offering to vamps or sumthin! @_@
 
It's really sad to see that they can't leave a celebrity alone.Such obsession...for now.

Has anybody thought what would happen if he got a girlfriend and he introduced her?The fans probably would try to kill her.Really I don't understand their obsession with all the Twilight saga.It's so fake and those girls decide they wanna live in a world like that.And I have to say,this world definitely has become a weird place to live in.
I guess it's ok for the teenagers to behave like this,but there are also their mothers who adopt the same behaviour to match their child.It's just so sad,makes me wonder if they have no shame at all.
 
It should be "crazed IDIOT fans slice open necks," since Twilight is not the only one that has had problems with obsessive fans. I have to say that this is indeed one of the worst I have seen, and it definitly gives fandom a bad name.

I'm worried about the future generations, i mean these kind of lunatic fanboys and fangirls who actually cut their own necks, what will they become 10 years from now?

In my school there is a group of girls who are absolutely obsessed with the vampire culture promoted in the Twilight movies, which is not even close to the vampire culture of the past...they're a bunch of fools who are far away from the real world, they don't have an opinion about anything and all they talk about is the New Moon movie and how they would let Edward or whatever his name is bite their necks off...a girl in my school was actually suspended for 5 days after asking her boyfriend to bite her in the neck like vampires did, she had to receive steeches because the guy actually ripped a piece of skin from her neck, and this is a true story.

It's not just with Twilight, it's with everything that's "popular" these days, there's always a bunch of people who can't separate a good movie or a good story or a good artist from reality, and simply destroy their minds, their identity with the obsession they have...and these people are lost in my opinion, they should be considered dangerous human beings, since it's these same type of "fans" who one day end up killing a "celebrity" because they ignored them or something between those lines...

It's actually quite troublesome to know these kind of people exist and do what they do, not just with Twilight but with so many other "teen pop" icons.
