I just realized that so many people hate country! Why? I mean, I do too, but, i guess because it's so bland to me.

But, country is disliked by most.

So, why is it so hated?

I just can't get into it. I like a few country songs (less than five) but I don't like how it sounds. It makes me sleepy more than anything else. >.>

Also, I think it has to do with the fact that I was forced to listen to country songs because of my stepmom. Several years ago, we would drive from one city to another (50 miles) a week, back and forth, and she played country-music nonstop. It just got on my nerves.

I am quite sure that when I am in some places they play country music and either I don't notice it or the music fills the place's mood, I guess.

Other than that, I only like a few country songs . Carrie Underwood at most. haha. That's about it though. =/

I just don't like it lol it sounds funny :wacky:

I dunno, I just can't seem to take country music seriously.

I hate it because...

It sounds like crap? Yeah, that's about right. Listening to country music causes me to vomit uncontrollably as my ears bleed. Not pretty.

I like a few country songs, but mostly the older stuff. Not so old it sounds like gospel mind you, but pretty old. Anything they play on the radio these days makes me want to shove the splintered bones of babies in my ear.

I recently heard a country song about some dude who loves his tractor. What inspiring lyrics...

Yeehaw! I luv mah John Deer lawn mower!

Some people see it as dull, same as classical. I happen to like both. Some people think it can be bland and almost silly. But they just need to give it a go.

...because its a thing of the past?
Most people don't assossciate themselves with it because its an old type of music (albeit there are still some country singers), its like Jazz, Blues etc. a lot of people don't like it because its not like the modern sort of pop/rock etc.

Though I would generally agree that Country is the most hated genre of music I was say all that rap, MC rubbish etc.s up there with it.

Meh, I don't like it because there's no drums or electric guitar. Plus, country music doesn't have enough of a bounce for me to be desirable to my ears.

Other than that.... I really don't like listening to something that makes me feel old or some shit. xD

Ugh, it's just hard to listen to. The lyrics in some are horrible too. I just can't really get into it. There's something missing for my musical tastes. Though I do hate country music, it's still better than gangsta rap. My God.

Anyway, it's Ehh to me. Very rarely will I find a country song that I like.

I like John Denver. I think he was a brilliant songwriter and a very good and creative guitarist. He could make the simplest licks sound very musical just by the way he would accent different notes etc.
Its funny how people like a song and oh look its john denver who wrote it. Leaving on a jetplane, annies song. Country roads and this old guitar to name only a few

I also like jim croce's guitar playing but unlike john denver i do not like his songs. Take away the singing and you have brilliant fingerstyle guitar but when he sings it makes me wanna hit the off button.

I think country music has a very bad image and sterotype. You instantly think of some hillbilly with a banjo and a mullet. The 2 people i just mentioned had more talent in theyre fingers than 98% of artists these days who have theyre fave plastered on cover 'but they didnt write nuffin'

Also just to say that country and folk music. Depending on the artist theres a very fine line between the 2. Not all country music is billy ray cyrus going achey breaky heart. But like all music its been modernised. Bands like mumford and sons are a modern folk music. It all started somewhere. Like all music it branches out. Not all rock music is the same? Not all rap is the same?

I'm going to try and give a wanky explanation. Country music has a local feel to it (with its distinct southern flavour) but is distributed on a mass scale. As such, it chases away teeny boppers because it is something different to what they usually hear. At the same time it doesn't appeal to music elitists because it isn't as 'exotic' as other local music.

That said, obviously a lot of people do like it because there is a huge demand for it. Also, as lew pointed out, country has branched out. So not all country music sounds like it is sung by drunk rednecks anymore.

Let me explain it from my perspective.

I live at the southern most tip of Ohio, I can get to Kentucky in 5 min and West Virginia in 15. Needless to see their are a lot of people who live here that listen to country music. So for some one like me the reason country is hated so much is the fact that you hear it 24/7 365 even if you're not the one listening to it. A lot of the local shows around here are Country shows. You're driving through town to stop at your bank and there's a guy in his truck blaring Hank Williams Jr. You grow up going through the local highschool where ever kid is chewing tobacco and blaring Brooks and Dunn. Things like this are what bring certain people to dislike Country based on the people that listen to it.

The others who dont grow up around it usually dislike it due to the lack of diversity in country. Theres an old joke that im sure everyone has heard before.

What do you get when you play a country song backwards? Your wife, kids, dog, and truck back

As cliche as that sounds its pretty accurate, I would say nearly 70% of country music is about losing something, mainly a relationship or a family member, a childs. The truck and dog thing I never really know but there are quite a few Country songs about vehicles that I have had to endure through listening. So yeah that pretty much sums it up.

It obviously depends on one self as a person, but I honestly can't understand the hate for this genre. Just to clarify, stuff like Taylor Swift ISN'T country. Country is Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Tom Waits or similair.

I love jazz/blues and country, is so damn amazing. There is nothing better than sitting outside a warm summernight with your friends drinking whiskey listening to something like this..
