Do you go shopping on Black Friday?

After working at Kohls for the past few years, I avoid going out to stores on this day at all cost. People are mean and just plain crazy and will fight over items with other people.

My friends are planning on having a camp out at the mall Thanksgiving night. They asked if I wanted to go and I pretty much said no way.

My mom also wakes up at 5 am to go shopping with her sisters. Then they come home and complain about how crowded the stores were. You'd think it would be annoying, but it's actually kind of funny.
 
Generally I stay indoors on Black Friday since nearly everywhere will be crazy, so crazy you risk your life by going in there. While they have good bargains I really don't want to go through the trouble of long lines, dealing with crazy people, and possibly seeing the dreaded "Sold Out" sign for whatever I am looking for. That is why I do my Black Friday shopping online. Safer, no crazy people to fight with, no long lines and the deals they have are just as good if not better.
 
Nope, never have. It doesn't appeal to me. People in general already piss me off enough as it is, so to see them act like maniacs over something is not a sight I'd like to see. Every year I always hear about injuries and deaths that had occurred (usually someone being trampled to death) and it's really sad to see. I'm aware that people find the experience worthwhile though and good for them, but it's not for me. I'm not that desperate to mingle with the crazy crowds just to see if I'm lucky enough to get a certain item at a lower price.
 
Haha for the first time my mom decided she will head over to the Usa and shop on black friday this week. Well I am not going but alot of price cuts and I just hope nobody gets trampled xD I may aswell tell her to get something :hmmm: Maybe a game? Shes going with family so it shouldnt be that bad. I just decided not to go as I have better things to do.
 
As much as I would LOVE to go out to see all of my favorite stuff on sale for 50-80% off, I know millions of other people do too, and some have did some impulsive things to get what they want - and I might possibly act the same way if normally nice people give me back talk in the stores. I would assume all places would be crowded, so if I were to go out with a friend, I'd try to pick out a place to go that doesn't get a lot of publicity but has excellent service anyhow (Game Force. Shopping spree~). It all depends how I feel that day. I may just shop for a whole lot of stuff online by then .

I never go shopping on Black Friday. I already hate waiting in line at the store and I don't enjoy crowds of people so I've always made it a point not to shop that day. I usually make it a point not to shop at all around Christmas time. People are usually rude and mean this time of year. Unfortunately, I'll be working that day so I'll have to deal with the craziness anyway. >.>
 
It's the day after Thanksgiving when all the stores in the U.S. have huge blowout sales in preparation for Christmas. I think it may be called "Black Friday" because the stores' profit is supposed to go "in the black," as in they make lots of money, but I'm not sure :hmmm: Personally I always just think of it as meaning it's a dark, dreadful day that hallows the consumers and shits on all us retail folk who have to deal with them :dave: Fortunately the kind of retail I'm in nowadays isn't something people give as gifts, but I was for six years and people just go friggin' nuts >_> It's sad how consumerism turns people into animals, but it's also something that happens year round, it's just that during other times of the year, it occurs in smaller increments and less detectably :hmmm:

I won't be going out except for a scheduled gym workout :dave: Honestly the only time I could ever see getting up that early for a sale would be if something that was normally like, $1000 was only $100 or something, and it was something I really wanted to get for someone :hmmm: But that's another thing, Black Friday and other huge sale days are also likely to be the biggest times for people to go into buying frenzies and buy things they don't really need just because they're on sale, or people pressure them into it. Which is unfortunate for those people who buy things they don't need and don't realize how much money they've actually spent, and also bad because it's an unnecessary drain on natural resources throughout the world.

 
We usually go shopping on Ebay for everything, but last year I decided to go to K-Mart to see what it was like...

It was really sad. People being trampled and killed just because people are selfish enough to place the value of some low-priced item over someones life?! It's ridiculous! Christmas is supposed to be a happy time to meet with your family and friends and have a good time, even if the music gets a little annoying after a while. It's not a murder spree or a time to compete over money.

Your children can't enjoy the holiday if they're laying face down on the floor stone-dead because some one wanted a half-priced blender...
Luckily, none of it happened while we where there, but still...people are (insert prefered insult here).
 
Sounds just like the Boxing day sales but even better and more busier, that's why it's always better asking for money and just having a few small presents for christmas IMO, you can get so much more in the sales
 
I'll sometimes go out later that night after things have calmed down, simply because I actually have the day off and chance to shop, but still stay away from the more populated areas (I live not too far from the King of Prussia Mall which is one of the biggest in the US - and a perpetual clusterfuck around the holidays).

Never done the 5AM thing - no appeal - the court costs of knocking someone's teeth out in the melee would greatly outweigh any savings on gifts.
 
Black Friday is probably like Boxing Day here for us just less scary.

Well in the outer suburbs that is.

I'd hate to be in a major city shopping centre on that day.

I only go to the shops on Boxing Day if I have to work which is hardly ever because I'm too expensive to put on for work on that day.

Boxing Day is shit. It's no cheaper then the normal specials throughout the year.

People are just stupid.

The Boxing day sales in GAME are amazing.. when i was in high school i use to go to game straight after buy the brand new games they had on sale there ( about £9.99 at the time down from £29.99 or £34.99 ) and take them to the Gamestation across the way and get about £20 credit for them i made about £80 one day
 
One time when I was a super baby, my parents went out to buy a toaster. Little did they know, they were in the middle of black Friday. They ended up going home with other stuff also due to sales. Luckily none of us got hit or anything like that.

Nowadays we do cyber Monday.
 
the last couple of years, amazon have done a week's worth of black friday deals in the week leading up to it. i got the e.t. steelbook for £12 this year, and the harry potter blu-ray boxset for £18. i wanted the jaws steelbook but missed out sadly. amazon is truly an amazing place.
 
I made the mistake of going out and trying to shop at a mall on Black Friday once.

I didn't have enough room to walk in the GAP, no one was available to wait on me at the perfume store, and the lines at Bass Pro were like, miles long. Did I tell you that we had to wait a good 15 minutes to even find a parking spot in their huge parking lot :wacky: It was also such a joy getting run over by everyone's baby strollers and etc.

For me, it's just not worth it. The discounts, chances you might get a deal on something and etc...are just not worth the hassle. I'd rather be sleeping off Thanksgiving dinner and get up and do some online shopping while I'm in my jammies. With the internet deals they have going on now, they are almost every bit as good as the in-store stuff.
