Best Video Game Openings

Which games has the best intro movies? They can be the best because they look cool, good music, awesome graphics...whatever the reason.

I nominate Soul Reaver 1's opening.

It was especially awesome if you had played Blood Omen before it. You know that the character you played as all through the game went on to be a vampiric deity and rule the planet. Badass to the core.
 
I enjoy the opening videos to Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2. Awesome visuals, cool music, etc. The ending videos are sweet as well.
 
I'm partial to Final Fantasy X's mainly due to the fact I love the game overall, Otherworld music was killer, and the graphics still today are jaw-dropping for a video game. it's a great start to an amazing game and really sets the stage for the visual beauty following the intro.
 
I quite like Chrono Cross' intro video. The music went well with it, and "epic" and "grand adventure" comes to mind as I watch the opening scene.

FFVIII also caught my interest due to the song, "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec". One of the best songs I've heard.
 
In Final Fantasy, X and Kingdom Hearts II win it for me, both of which have amazing songs, which are successful in starting off the atmosphere of the games.

Outside of Final Fantasy, I'm going for The Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire IV and various Dragonball Z games, all of which are blatantly colourful - both visually and metaphorically.
 
Im going with FF8 aswell, great music and a sword fight were u get the main character being slashed across the face . . . awesome
 
Im stuck somewhere between VII & X.

There wasn't really all that much to VII but I loved the whole train shizz and Aerith at the beginning thinking she was just soime randomer. I thought it was pretty epic actually....

X's just screams great stuff, the music the destruction, Auron <3

I can't decide...
 
I would say the best opening as far as Final Fantasy goes, would be IV DS and VIII for me. I just loved how they showed all the characters in CG form in IV and I thought VIII had one of the best intro music. I loved Liberi Fatali and how well it went with FMV scenes.

Excluding Final Fantasy openings, my favorite openings are between Dynasty Warriors 5 and the Xtreme Legends intro. No surpise that I picked these two but I love the action packed fighting and how well choreography the fighting was put together overall.

Final fantasy X was awesome with the music, and the blitzball then sin attacking it was exciting to watch.
FFVIII is also there, it was exciting watching Seifer and Squall fight one another and the music was really good.
Iv also always liked the tekken openings, it give you a quick glimpse of each character and where they are.
 
It would have to be ffVIII for me. It was definatly the best graphics id seen in a game at that point. For ps1 it was amazing. Plus it was just a cool fight scene, and the music was good
 
My favourite opening would have to be between Tenchu wrath of heaven (teh music is ftw) and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2... I just love the music and the actions that occur in each. :)

I love the Blitzball CGI in Zanarkand as much as the next person, but it isn't really the opening of the game is it? That would be the party sitting in the ruins of Zanarkand accompanied by Tidus' "Listen..." monologue...

Anyway personally I'm partial to the opening sequence of Final Fantasy VIII. Very artsy and very dramatic.
 
The first thing that came to mind was Crisis Core's opening,
Where Zack was doing a training simulation with Angeal

The quality of the video was amazing, shows the power of PSP graphics!
 
CoD4. I liked the voice over, even if it was inaccurate, and the scenes from Ukraine and the Middle Eastern place. The executions looked, for want of a better word, cool. It sets you up well for the game.
 
Got to say FFVIII, I remember I pretty much fell in love with the game the moment I saw the opening FMV. Liberi Fatali provides a perfect soundtrack and it's so dramatic and exciting, and it just left me desperate to start playing the game.
 
FFVIII and Liberi Fatali = Epic win.

Non FF related though, my favorite has to be Silent Hill 4's though, which is also the trailer. Or at least I'm going to say it's the opening because it plays at the beginning of the game (before the menu screen, but oh well. The other OP was uh, completely forgettable).
Too bad the game wasn't as pleasing and full of eye candy as the trailer depicted. With the redundancy, glitches (hi burping nurses??), and the ridiculous story of "oh god i can't get out of my room, but there's a huge hole right next to where I shit so let's travel inside there", I personally just found looping the opening of this game to be much more entertaining.

The whole campy, retro, populuxe feel really appeals to me in this video.
