Air travel is both exciting and suckish. On one hand it's exciting to know you're going somewhere while on the other you know how hard it is to sit for hours on a plane, not being allowed (by unstated rule) to open the windows on a night flight to see the lights down below, and waiting again for hours at the terminal just to get into your flight.

Flight food is okay too, I guess. :hmmm:

That being said, I hated my 18 hour plane ride from the Far East to Los Angeles International. It was a straight flight so we all cramped up from sitting there for soooo long.

The thought of air travel is indeed exciting, but once you're on that plane and up in the sky, it gets boring quickly, especially if you're in for a 16-18 hours flight. I have to say though that the 4 times I've traveled to the Philippines, I usually don't mind it as much. The excitement of seeing loved ones is enough to endure the flight. But then coming back to the U.S is always a dreadful thought. Part of it is due to homesickness...which in turns turn to 'air-sickness'. Every single time I flew back, I always puke. Which reminds me...cramped restrooms. Hate. Them.

The thought of food is exciting too, but once I pull open that aluminum lid, ugh...I can only take a few bites. Not a fan of airplane food at all.

It also doesn't help if you're beside an annoying sibling and/or boring companions. It's as if everyone's vivacious personalities suddenly disappear, and everything is all about sleep, sleep, eat, sleep, watch movies with itchy earphones, sleep, check out the snoring passengers up ahead (or flight attendants, to those that applies), and sleep. Speaking of which, sleeping in the most uncomfortable position...don't get me started on that.

Domestic flights I'm okay with though.

I don't particularly like flying, but I don't dislike it either. It can easily become a horror story though, particularly long haul flights. It's ridiculous how tiny your personal space is. I know they want to fit in as many seats as they can but subtle changes like a bit of extra leg room to stretch or arm rests for everyone rather than the one to share. I hate getting stuck between two people who hog the arm rests. Doing away with small annoyances like that would make journeys a lot more comfortable even though you may only be paying for an economy seat.

I've only had a few bad food experiences. I had a breakfast once and the scrambled egg was pretty much a solid cuboid and it looked a bit green.

Like most things, paying extra does a world of good. My family got bumped up to first class on BA when they screwed some of our tickets up.
:gonk: Menus, personal TVs, reclining massage chairs. I even got served a cocktail before take off.

Also, the bathroom flush. :hmph:

I don't want to even talk about flights. I don't mind when everything goes right but I have some real horror stories, one being on my way back from the honey moon.

So we were coming back form Jamaica and when we reached the Miami Airport all was fine. Well 40 minutes before our flight had arrived, they showed a delay. So we waited the 40 minutes out and they said another delay, and this time they said the folks are still on the plane. Another 30 minutes went by and they said the flight was cancelled. So the 2nd warning was a lie, if you noticed.

We went up calmly and asked what we could do. The person tried to get us on an alternate flight, (i had work the next day) though they were overbooked so we were on reserve. I didn't feel like waiting 4 more hours just to see if 23 people dropped off the flight, so I went back up and asked of they had any hotel rooms for us to stay. They didn't give us a free hotel room, but instead they gave us a hotel room for 80 bucks (they told us it was discounted... yea the hell right). Safe to say we drank that night at the bar downstairs. Then in the morning we flew out, and I skipped work of course.

I hate/love flying. It gets you there quick, it's a pretty view, but the delays are a nightmare.

I used to love flying when I was a little girl, but now I can't bear it. Even flights only a few hours long both bore and scare me. I think as I've gotten older I've become more aware oh how high the planes go and just how much chance of survival I'd have, should it fall out of the sky :hmmm:

Fear of flying won't stop me going anywhere though, the fear only generally starts to kick in once I'm ON the plane, and by then it's a bit too late :mokken: It takes off, and I spend the next few hours pinned back in my seat going 'I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die'

So yeah... I'm not a fan, but I'll do it if it means I get a holiday :ryan:

I've heard certain airlines are better than others. Philippine Airlines is not one of the better ones. Long delays guaranteed, cramped quarters (except for maybe one plane that's all upgraded), and crappy service are what you'd expect. On both flights we had to and from the U.S. we were delayed by at least an hour in both the P.I. and Los Angeles. Then they played movies on a frickin' VHS player ffs. :rage:

Don't get me started on cramped bathrooms. Barely any room to do your business regardless of what plane you're using.

So far, I've never had problems with the "neighbors". I did have this one hot girl sit right next to me in economy so I can't really say I've had major disappointments with the seating arrangements, tbh. :ohoho:

Don't get me started on good and bad airlines :hmph:

Last time I flew, coming back from Lanzarote last month, we got on the plane and just after take-off we got this message over the intercom.
'Ladies and gentlemen, we are sorry to inform you that due to the capacity of the fuel tanks, we cannot carry enough fuel to get us back to London. We will be making a half hour fuel stop in Faro in Portugal'
:rage: :rage:
We were already an hour late as well :rage:

Never fly on Viking airlines, ever.

That's true. Some are miles better. If you ever go on one of those travel packages with a company like EasyJet or something like that, it's horrendous. The seats hardly go back at all, you have to pay a couple of pounds for a headset, delays etc. :hmph: I heard ages ago that Garuda is good even in economy but that was ages ago. And Emirates I think. :hmmm:

All you really need is one successful take off and one successful landing I suppose. :mokken:

Well, I don't fly that often, and I've never really experienced any really diabolical airlines. I tend to just read and listen to second-hand reports of bad airlines. For example, I heard recently that Ryanair's new scheme would involve an option where you fly while standing up. I imagine that would be short flights only though.

I have a little bit of a phobia when it comes to flying myself. If I'm sat here thinking about the prospects of flying somewhere to visit, then yes, it does sound like a very exciting event to look forward to. But when I'm actually getting to the plane and stepping onto it, fear just kicks in. I would suddenly contemplate the thought that I, alongside my family and/friends with hundreds more will be up thousands of feet in the air in this vulnerable metallic structure.

And of course, I am really not keen on heights at all. That is why I never want to sit next to the window (although I suppose I can always close the flap I suppose). And err...airsickness does come in occasionally if the turbulence is that bad. I remember my flight to Hong Kong experiencing severe turbulence when we were over Russia. The food had come and we were suddenly told to belt up. Next thing I knew the aircraft was rocking relentlessly. It was awful. I had a feeling of terror in me while simultaneously I really felt like I wanted to puke.

I will be honest here. I have not flown in a while. Lately I have been very scared of planes but I see them everyday. The College I go to Is right next to the airport and jeez they look like they are going to crash or something. I mean they are so low.. But oddly they just do not. I know it slike a 5% chance that a plane will malfunction but the thought stays with me. To be honest when I am on an airplane I feel scared. It is really high up there and I just feel freaked out to hell.. Reason why is I keep thinking what will happen if we do not make it to our desired destination... When I look out the window of a plane my mind suddenly freezes. So much fear is striken into my heart. The thought of the ocean down there just makes me feel sick. When you sit down you are automatically terrified of the plane being in the air thousands of feet above the ground. I mean its in the SKY! So pretty much its absolute death if a plane malfunctions. I have been told if you sleep throughout the whole flight you will not be scared but instead be in la la land. I have a huge fear of planes/heights.. Perhaps if I want to fly to Europe again ill be really scared as it is a 7 hour flight. During those 7 hours you better hope not a single fucking thing goes wrong or you are fucked... That is all :sad3:

I don't fly often but I'd say that I've never had any bad experiences with it. When I flew to Tampa back in 2006, for a 36 hour stay, there were no problems at all. When I flew to Dallas recently, everything went perfectly. I even arrived 25 minutes early for one of those flights. So no reasons to complain about airlines for me. :lew:

I'm one of those people who is deathly afraid of flying, but it happened during a terrifying incident, I believe (I've had to try and pinpoint it in therapy) over Lake Michigan where there was some nasty turbulence and the plane losing altitude at a quick rate, etc so on and so forth. The reality was sort of a wake up call. While flying gets you there much quicker, the chances of surviving a potential crash are slim to none. They say you're more prone to get in a car accident, but you're also more prone to survive and not get terribly hurt (although the potential to get injured/die is also high).

In any case, I'd much rather get and or die in a car accident than a plane crash.

I hate air travel. The whole package is a miserable experience. From getting to the airport and up until you reach your destination, everything associated with this form of travel has been careful designed to piss you off.

Huge queues, in fact queues for queues on some occasions that overflow out of their area. Over the top security adding another layer of things to deal with during check in. Delays, screaming undisciplined children and their useless parents. No smoking.

I am a frequent flyer and every time I have to go through this nightmare my heart sinks. Any sense of excitement that I might get from going somewhere new is completely erroded by the time I am at check in. I am routinely stopped and taken to one side during the security checks and that alone is enough to infuriate me.

It is racist discrimination.

I love air travel. So far I have had no negative experiences and they have been really fun, especially sitting in the window seat. However this is really strange because I suffer from acrophobia, fear of heights, yet for some reason airplanes don't bother me at all. Actually I feel most calm at the window. I don't normally travel by airplane though so something like this is normally a treat for me.

it bored me, and i hate taking off landing. head goes betweent he knees and im like, just hurry up and get level :rage:

I remember trying to get to sleep, flying at some daft hour the morn, and it just wasnt happening. I also hate how utterly cramped it is. I love travelling, but flying is poo

It's been a good long while since ive flown, and I always hated travelling, though these days, I love it, so i may feel differently if im ever to fly again. i know id hate all the waiting about though, i hate waiting
