FFXIII-2 A Better Look at Lightning's 'Rival' [FFXIII-2]

Okay, so, I was watching the FFXIII-2 trailer in HD, and I just realized, the sources that gave out the trailer HAVE SHITTY images.

So, I did everyone here a favor and Screenshotted the face of Lightning's so called Rival.

1920 x 1080 is epic eh?

Now, after a closer look, he looks closely similar to how Laguna looks. Yes?

Or he might be a brother of Cid Raines, they do look alike.

Yeah Cid raines needs to be represented, I forget was he shot or was Cid turned into a Ceith thingy? watch for the Sephiroth comparisons to roll in....... laguna? its the hair flipped over going on that gives that impression.

I thing dude looks to Grumpy to be like laguna/\ Lights armor is awesome!

But, I was saying, he does look like Laguna, by the way his hair is styled.

...and I do think they look a little similar to each other. ...and on a separate note...the whole armor with a tribal feel (beads and feathers in her rival's hair) is really ...different. I didn't notice it until you posted that pic Seiji.

I really thought he was Kain at first. The costume colours are so alike. Now that you mention it, the hair is rip-off of Laguna too.

Well what can we expect? Originality of characters is not Square's specialisation. But he still looks awesome as Lightning is, in my opinion.

Can I be as bold as to say I think the guy's design feels like something from Amano? The sash-headband and beads are something I've seen commonly in some of Amano's older designs.

I agree the guy as a very tribal vibe going on. Maybe he's an Oerba too?

well they are on Pulse and that opens up the fact that there could have been a few remaining towns that survived the population crunch into Coccoon maybe dude is from Pulse, even a freed crystal bound L'cie?

Finally, SE has delivered us some worthy eye candy, the likes of which we haven't seen SINCE Laguna.

Even if he's a total bitch to beat in battle, I don't care. He's pretty hot.

Uhmmm not to be nosy or anything but the pictures posted in the other thread were okay . That being said I will just guess this is a thread to discuss the mysterious character? I think he is a messenger of the Unseen world of the dead where Lightning curently is. Or maybe he can be a relative to Lightning? I dont know much about him. If cant be Someone like Cid.. and I dont want it to be either. So my guess will be that he isnt a villian for a long while. I think he will Join Lightning later on.

I think someone's already mentioned something about SE not being very original when it comes to character designs. This is particularly true with people like Tetsuya Nomura (who I presume is also designing the characters for the sequel) who does come out with designs that are similar to another character, be it accidentally or on purpose, such as Lightning's vague resemblance to Cloud.

This guy's name should be "Thunder". I called it.

The guy does look like the sort of person who doesn't talk much........hopefully he doesn't I miss characters like that. Also is it even confirmed that this guy is a rival?

Personally though I don't want him to be a rival..........unless his a cheery motherfucker or an annoying prick. If he's a quiet character which he does look I would like him to be playable.

If this guy turned out to be Cid, I would die . He was too beautiful of a character to be as short-lived as he was.

And am I the only one who likes un-original characater design, where a new character vaguely resembles a previous FF character? I did think that this mystery man had a Kain-like essence, and it would be so cool if I got to see more of those beloved old-school FF characters in a new light.

Nomura is the character designer.

But really, looking at the image his clothing does not look that different at all in comparison to Yazoo, Loz and Kadaj's clothing.

Not really question. Most designs are by Nomura, and inevitably, characters will look really similar.

looking similar is fine, but similar isn't what Nomura does. Most styles are direct re-hashes of old equipment. But we've had a handful of Final Fantasy games released without this lazy approach to character design.

It's not like Katsura Hashino, Shigenori Soejima or Akihiko Yoshida have this problem though.

That "Thunder" guy is most definitely from pulse. I think. Especially with all the beads and the feathers and such. I bet he'll be like ole' Sephiroth. I would so die if he was. I mean... there are different types of personalities besides Stoic/Cold/Happy-go-lucky/and Annoying. I'd like a new personality, please.
