Weekly Jump gives us a first look at Hope Estheim’s official artwork/render for Final Fantasy XIII-2. In XIII-2, Hope is 24-years-old and works as leader at the Academy research institute, where he researches “spacetime anomalies.”

Hope's entire existence is a space-time anomaly

Ten (or eleven?) years older...and he STILL looks like a complete retard. Honestly, first Snow looks like a bad Cloud/Sephiroth fusion cosplayer, and now they reveal that the only thing that has changed about Hope is his height and his coat, which is only a shade better than his absolutely terrible costume from the original game. Different appearance, same crap characters. Abandon Hope, all ye who enter here, etc etc.

FFXIII would have been better without Hope in it. I imagine FFXIII-2 will be the same. This character infects everything he touches no matter what he's wearing.

Am I the only one that likes Hope? I think he's adorable. Of course, in a lil brother-kinda-way but he's still adorable. I can't believe how old he is he looks like he should be like 15.

I like hope- its what I have about this game.

I hate the character named hope, was so annoying- couldn't have more teen angst if a hipster outcast in high school wrote a grunge album. Is there a reason he needs football gloves?

I dont know about Hope, but imo Tidus? is/was no cry baby at all! He had his reasons for the emotional parts. I could really relate to him with his relationship between him & Jecht.
Tidus was courageous.

Hope looks the same imo and Snow way different ....

I hope SE's next ff title has no blonde males as controllable player, no purple, pink or other atrocious hair colour for tht matter. No freeking weird metrosexual metropolis wardrobe either!!!!!!

I have to agree! I notice people continually base characters off what they are at the beginning of game and not what they mature into. The characters always develop over the course of the story.

ie. Hope goes from scared and lost, to confident and courageous.

(another example of this is calling Squall emo cause of how he is at the start of the game... no accessing that by end game is a strong compassionate leader that everyone looks up to)

FFXIII - Think im the only one here that thinks hope was the biggst fail as a character since kimahri in a ff game, but thats just FXIII wise. as for XIII - 2 its been know for me that I hated u=yuna in X thought she sucked but in X-2 i actually loved her like alot. So getting back to my point which is XIII-2 may have characters I hated but like now, hope is one of them. However I cant say anything till I actually play it, so im just going on what ive read and seen in the trailers, Hope seems like he may make on my fav list this time, lets just hope when we get the game its exactly like we think it is.

What’s Hope, The Final Fantasy Character, Up To These Days?

Out of all the playable Final Fantasy XIII characters, Square Enix talks about Hope Estheim the most.

In Final Fantasy XIII-2 players will see Hope ten years after the events with Lightning. Now 24 years old, Hope is the leader of the Academy, a research group looking to redevelop Gran Pulse. He’s specifically investigating space-time anomalies. He still carries his boomerang, Dengeki PlayStation explains, but only as a memento since he doesn’t fight anymore.

Alyssa (or maybe its Alisa, either way!) is Hope’s assistant. She was previously seen in trailers as a young lady with short blonde hair. She’s described as an idol of the Academy being both bright and charming.

Dengeki PlayStation also notes Sazh, like Hope, is involved in improving Gran Pulse in his own way.

If it's a memento, shouldn't you - I dunno - hang it on a wall at home or just store it safely away somewhere, rather than carry it around which looks daft? I don't know, this just sounds incredibly weak as a reason for why he's still using a boomerang rather than doing what a sensible person would do and get a kick-ass pair of guns. Or just a better weapon entirely. Say what you want about Yuna in FFX-2, at least she was sensible enough to swap her staff for primarily a pair of handguns.

Hope irritated me the first game with the whining, backstabbing, and moodiness. I know circumstances dictated that for him but he really didn't deal with things too well for the majority of the game

Still, he is older in this game so I think he'll be a little bit of a better character. ...and I don't have any problems with his appearance this game, I think he's cute. Like I've said before he looks a bit like Cid Raines and I think Cid was pretty gorgeous

Really, if we want to pick on character design, lets pick on Snow for this game. Snow looks ridiculous. I hate his hair, his clothes make him look a bit hobo -ish and I'm sure we'll get plenty of the classic phrases that we so lovingly heard the first game like "I'M THE HERO!!! WHERE'S SERAH???? and SAVE COCOON!"
