It looks like producer Shinji Hashimoto was out and about today. If you recall, he recently retired from Twitter in order to focus more on game development.


Appearing as a special guest at Ginza SWING, and covering all things Final Fantasy 25th anniversary, Hashimoto touched a bit on his own project – Final Fantasy Versus XIII.


Though it hasn’t been long since recently debunked rumors of cancellation, Hashimoto included a few comments on how the game has evolved considerably by saying, “The skin has been pulled back a few layers. First and foremost it is important to bring out Versus. Versus is turning out to be incredibly amazing!”


Six years on, it’s time to show – not tell.

FFVersusXIII was announced in 2006. It has a 'XIII' name on it because it is part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. As such, it is based on the same mythology as the one in XIII, though with a different interpretation. Other than that, it is not similar to FFXIII at all. Not much is known about this game, but many fans are really looking forward to the release of Versus because it appears really good.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis of the Final Fantasy series. It's gameplay has been shown to be more in line with that of the Kingdom Hearts series rather than a traditional Final Fantasy. Look up the gameplay trailers on Youtube. The graphics are top notch, and the game is sure to be astonishing based upon the gameplay vids we've seen (rare though they are)
 
Well, funny thing. As a part of the FNC sub-series, it does have a single link to Final Fantasy XIII beyond its title. The theme of crystals. And that's it's only tie. The world is different in every possible way. In fact, the game's world itself is to be based off of our own, but the appearances of monsters, behemoths in particular, show that it's still a Final Fantasy game at heart, and it knows it! Please, watch the entirety of this trailer, and tell me your opinions, Alex. :)

Well at the least the game is being 'Mentioned' more and more lately. But like Uncle Ulty said, I want more seeing rather than telling...this game needs visual proof to the population.
 
besides crystals, Etro also appears to be a central theme in versus. Etro also appeared in FFXIII. So that's another link. But I doubt there will be more connections between the two beyond that.

Actually, for future reference, anything above 'source: xxx' is not written by me. So the statement about 'showing and not telling' is by the original author of the article, not me :P
 
So... really what news have we really gotten about this game again?

A few characters names... a little bit of a trailer... years of little to no news... a false rumor about it going become XV, another false rumor of it being cancelled... and now this "it is turning out really good"... so in conclusion... 6 years of this and we still have nothing other than, "it is turning out really good".. does that mean pretty???

I should bloody hope it will be amazing after 6 years :/
If the whole game is up to the standard of the trailer then I'll be happy. The Kingdom Hearts battle system...I always found that fiddly, but we'll see :)
 
Kingdom Hearts battlesystem is epic like Rogue Galaxy's battlesystem. Full control over character and bashing but also combos and special moves with magic is pow! Hopefully it wont WARP the party into a different environment ..thats retarded ..real time battles please . Option to stop time when selecting magic, items etc. I also want to hear more, but I blame Wada and his obsession for FFXIII since that is the only reason got massively delayed.
 
Since is developed by SE i dont buy the thing that is amazing, then again FFXIII was supposed to blow my mind but in the good sense.
 
After the long wait we've had to endure: it better be incredibly amazing. :hmph:

But seriously, visuals would be awesome. It's great to hear updates but I want to see some more in game action. Or another trailer. I really don't care anymore....just show us SOMETHING.

Who knows. Overall, the games started out in mystery. the same has happened with Final Fanasy Type-0 when we knew nearly nothing. But at least with that game we got hints to a premise. In this game, we get some scenes, but not alot of info. Regardless, the only thing i ask is that it to be free roam. And if not, at least "new game+" worthy like crisis core was.

Also, the only rumor i heard was that it would be cancelled. the ffXV was just a fan trailer.
 
I am so looking forward to this game, I don't know why but I have a feeling it's going to be great. It looks like it might have a really decent storyline and interesting characters, the gameplay looks cool and the world sounds awesome too. Of course, I might turn out to be wrong. It can't be any worse than FFXIII for me anyway so at least I won't be too dissapointed whatever it's like.

I think they're right not to show us more of it to be honest. We've seen a lot already. We know the ideas of the plot, we know the main characters, we see the gameplay in actions and battles and we see world exploration, we've seen a lot of this game to be fair to Square. It doesn't feel like it because it's been so long since we saw something but compared to previous games we've seen just as much if not more in the trailers then previous games. Their mistake was showing us this stuff way too early and even telling us about the game at all when they should have known how long it would be before it was actually completed.

Once again your smack onto the point in my opinion. I totally agree with what you have just said, it has saved me time writing it myself :D. It was a mistake to show so much so soon but who knows? Could this be the final fantasy that breaks the standard set by predecessors or will it fail miserably. It could do, but I have faith in them as after all I actually am fine with the FFXIII series of games even though they are not of the standard of the past.

I dont consider versus as part of the 13 but more as fnc.hopefully its everything but. Regardless i do think we can use a little more visuals. Specifically on voice casting and such or a new character. We really didnt see too much. I think they want tu surprise us. Like they did with type-0. Im predicting a huge spring of info after it gets re-revealed.
 
I swear, if they took six years to make a game and if falls flat, I'm going to be so disappointed. It shows promise, but its about time we get something BIGGER than small, spaced out "updates". Bring us a new trailer, demonstrate what you have.....something!
