Despite Square Enix preparing Final Fantasy Type-0 for a release in Japan this summer, the Japanese publisher has said absolutely nothing about a release outside of Japan. And recent comments from Yoshinori Kitase, the game's producer, do little to comfort fears that it may never release outside of Japan.

"As you may know very well, with the PSP market, the situation is very different in Japan than outside of Japan," said Kitase when speaking to us at E3 2011. "We are having to be very very careful in how we decide what would be the best way to deliver the game to all the gamers."

Kitase then went on to ask Western gamers for patience as they look for a resolution, "At the moment I can't give you any confirmed decision, so please be patient for a little bit longer."

While Kitase doesn't outright confirm that it won't get released, his comments about the differing PSP markets are concerning. They could still release it as a PSN title though.

So in short:

"We have the game youve all be screaming for. But because you dolts didnt like/Buy XIII. We'll punish you for being Disguting traitors! No Marrying this game! It Might never get realsed outside of Japan! HAHAHHAHA!"

Or Else thats the subliminal Message

no, he's saying that in the case of the western psp market, the risk might not be worth the rewards. ...which i don't believe to be true seeing as it carries the FF brand (thereby guaranteeing at least SOME profit), but that's his reasoning.

Misleading title. If you read between the lines, it's very obvious that they're considering an HD remaster for this like Monster Hunter and Peace Walker. Which is pretty smart, as it'd be much more financially successful that way. Plus, by the time you localize it into English, manufactor, promote, etc, the Vita will already have replaced the PSP, or very close.

Uh, XIII sold well and was reviewed well in the west.

I have every faith the game is coming out over here. It's true consoles are a bigger presence in North America (not sure about Europe), so not many people will buy a PSP to play Type-0, BUT, the number of people who already have a PSP that will buy Type-0 should be significant I think.

I suspect like most PSP games (except Dissidia 012-that localization speed was friggin' amazing) it may come out 8-9 months later for the rest of the world after Japan get's it.

Yeah... it better come out in Europe and North America. Not as a playstation network title. I am pretty sure they will not miss this chance to being Final Fantasy Type-0 to North America and Europe. It is a pathetic move for them not to release it in English. They say this now... yes... but they better not be like what namco did with their last batch of Tales games.

Meh, not too worried. I own a hacked PSP, I'll just wait until someone makes a fan translation and patch the ISO file with it. :griin:

However, I probably won't have to do that, as they'll probably release it. :hmmm:

As sad as it would be that the game won't be released in English, I'll still be able to play the game, what, without no region lock and play-asia. Alas, we've had quite a build up to this, like, 5 fuck years. For the information to be released and them to say "actually naaaah" would be a right cock tease.

Still. I reckon it will be released here.

Kitase: Square being “very careful” in delivering western FF Type-0

Final Fantasy boss Yoshinori Kitase has casted a bit of an unknown in regards to the release of Final Fantasy Type-0 in the west, saying Square are being “very careful” in how it brings the game outside Japan..

Speaking to Gaming Union, he said “the situation” with PSP was “very different” here in the west than it was back in Japan, adding it would have to be “careful” in how it delivered the game.

“As you may know very well, with the PSP market, the situation is very different in Japan than outside of Japan,” Kitase told the site at E3.

“We are having to be very very careful in how we decide what would be the best way to deliver the game to all the gamers.”

He added: “At the moment I can’t give you any confirmed decision, so please be patient for a little bit longer.”

Type-0, nee Agito XIII, is due to release this summer for PSP in Japan, but hasn’t been formally announced for the west. Hands-on for the game in the country will begin from next month.

This is pretty much the reason why they are iffy on bringing it out over here. Piracy is so bad on the PSP in the US that it has essentially killed the thing.

I see them doing an HD remaster with it since it's also on two discs. I doubt they will release a two disc PSP game in the US either.

I'm not one of the unreasonable pirates. If I like a game, I go out and buy it, no questions asked. If the game is bad, I delete it, and I don't buy it. Either way, they don't lose a sale on my account. :mokken:

Why is there even a thread on this? Of course the game will be released in the west. You don't think they have the resources to afford the risk? Might I remind you that these people released Mindjack? And if they don't release it, then good riddance.

This.

It will eventually get released at some point...it'll just happen after the Japanese release.

With their currrent fail at XIV and their "discomfort with their E3 lineup." ...I would assume it would be in their best interests to release it here in the west eventually.

1) "Final Fantasy" Type-0. It has the name, it will likely sell. Likewise, if "Call of Duty: Angry Bird Warfare" came out, people would still flock to buy it in droves. I suppose the one way to botch up a major PSP release would be to release it with little fanfare during a period in which it is heavy with other game releases.

2) If other developers are still releasing physical PSP releases (i.e. on UMDs), I don't see why SE can't. If they're that scared, then just have a downloadable version ready on PSN to cater to the PSPGo players as well if need be. I mean, Christ - they released Tactics Ogre and The 3rd Birthday for crying out loud.

3) A remastering would be an idea, but then again, that involves making us wait even longer to get our hands on it if they're not considering a PSP release (and possibly meaning more unnecessary work for the department depending on what your views are of remastering games?). And for the PSP players who do want this game, they'll be annoyed.

4) There are still PSP gamers in the west, you know. I don't think the PSP is that much of a dying breed in the west as various people claim it to be. The last time I checked, recent big name PSP releases haven't done terribly at all.

5) If Vita is on their mind at all (not implied in the articles I know, but someone brought it up), then that's silly. The Vita isn't due out yet and even then people aren't going to immediately flock to buy one. It's unlikely to be like the Wii in terms of people flocking to buy it on Day 1 out of its novelty. They can make a Vita version of this game if they want, but it would be silly to abandon the PSP version and adapt it for Vita instead. Nintendo at least decided to have Twilight Princess have both a Gamecube and Wii version (even if very few people bought the Gamecube version of the game).

This would be so saddening if it didn't get released considering how good the game looks so far. All the same, I don't view "We are having to be very very careful in how we decide what would be the best way to deliver the game to all the gamers." as a comment that suggests it won't get a Western release. If anything, since there's no region locking on PSP games, I can't think it would be unprofitable for them to get translators in their Western subsidiaries to do their job, even if it only sold moderately.

They really don't like their fans very much, do they? *Sigh*

Pretty sure they never did. SquareSoft might of cared about us, but Enix don't. If Enix cared about us they would of realized how well liked VI is over here and added in a VI character in Dissidia, and they would of given us the KH final mixes. :hmph:

The game won't get released here, better start getting a Japanese PSP. :sad3:

....I just have to roll my eyes at people that say they don't care for their fans... But I'm not going to go into that.

I think what they mean by "careful" is they have to wait for the right time is all, They will probably release it around the holidays, and as far as the PSP goes...

Japan 15 million (as of December 28, 2009)
United States 17 million (as of March 14, 2010)

So don't worry they will release the game here in America, I'm sure they are more worried about the Vita coming out just before they release the game, that might hurt their sales a little, unless I hear from Sony that the Vita will still play psp games.

the reason is that by the time they get it released for westan areas, the psvita gonna be near release, so they might be thinking that the game not gonna get many sales outside europe because it will be released to near the release of the psp2... well that what i think anyway :hmph:
