[10/09] SE registers Final Fantasy XIII-3 domain, renews Final Fantasy Versus XIII trademark

Final Fantasy XIII saga to continue further than expected?



Final Fantasy XIII-2 may not be the end of the Final Fantasy XIII saga. Square Enix registered a domain name this Wednesday, September 7 for a potential Final Fantasy XIII-3.


Square registered FinalFantasyXIII-3.com through their regular domain service, Corporation Service Company, whom they also used to register the domains HeroesOfRuin.com and DeusEx.com.


Additionally, on August 30, Square Enix refiled the trademark for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which might indicate its name remaining unchanged despite its long development time and loss of consumer attention (for now).


Final Fantasy Type-0, out October in Japan, was once called Final Fantasy Agito XIII.


Square Enix announced its current name during a press conference in January this year.

My thoughts? Well let me just say that I absolutely knew it would come to this. Everyone will hate.. but meh. Versus XIII has it's trademark renewed? Well, it is about time I would say.

At least there was some tiny bit of news on Versus. I was beginning to think perhaps it never even existed. Release date plz.
 
Oh dear lord... So let me guess, FFXIII-3 would be just a western shit mmo right done by americans, right? I just hope XIII-2 bombs so they would realize how stupid A SEQUEL (let alone triquel) to Final fantasy is. Are we entering the age where every Final Fantasy would have a shit load of sequels by default? *shakes head*

About Versus - whatever, name means little if you're not main installment anyway. Agito changed it's name but it's still the same game.

it's not true that 'no one wants FFXIII-2'. If you look across the internet, many people are very excited about the game, like me. Well I know you are just exaggerating the point that XIII is hated by many people, but still >.< at least acknowledge us, the minority :(

It's like saying 'everyone wants FFVII remake' where clearly there are many people who are strongly against it.

as for XIII-3, I may have to wait and see whether XIII-2 deserves another sequel. i.e. whether the ending/s need any more continuation. But I honestly don't really mind one.

but of course the haters mind :D

but I don't think we should take this seriously. It's just a website domain. XIII-3 has a fair chance of not being made at all.
 
I would imagine they would register XIII-3.com so that if they really do decide to do another sequel, someone else won't steal the domain. I wouldn't say it was a definite mark to say they will make the sequel-sequel.
 
All I can say is, is there some kind of conspiracy floating around Square Enix's upper echelons of power actively planning to make the company look more of a joke than it already is because this would totally be taking the piss. Often I do wonder what would we get instead if Square Enix just decided to outsource a future numbered game to someone like Level-5 instead.

You've already sequelised a game that should have been left concluded in the first place, now they're running around contemplating the idea of yet another sequel? Even if FFXIII-2 turns out to be a stunning masterpiece that totally puts the original to shame (and frankly Toriyama, you really can't do any worse, but you never cease to amaze me anyway...), a possible triquel is seriously pushing it. I can honestly imagine the shortcuts they may be planning to do to accommodate a third game. As for whether or not this will or won't happen, this definitely looks like something Square Enix would do in this day and age, and crafting the first trilogy of the franchise doesn't look like something they're beyond doing, which is grating.

As for Versus, the fact that you have to renew its trademark is hilarious. Talk about prolonged waits since the announcement and the fact that you have to actually remind everyone that Versus still exists...

Anyways at first my reaction was exactly like Toni's..but after reading other people's posts I seem to be somewhat reassured...

1. SE wants the domain name just in case. Maybe they will make it depending on customers demand.
2. Versus might be FFXIII-3.
3. FFXIII-3 might be on the WiiU or a handheld.



What is the main reason FFXIII gets a sequal? Something must have started this madness....

I thought the game sucked by the majority of the people...it was enjoyable to some but disappointing to many..

Then why? WHY? a sequal? Or did many people from Japan actually love the game?

If its true that FFXIII-2 is possible because customers demanded it then I BLAME THE DAMN FF FANS...
If that is bullshit from SE's part as in most people didnt like the first game and dont want a sequal then SE is an evil company lmao....

I want to know the truth....for now lets assume many people actually wanted the sequal and thus SE would listen to its customers for once....:ffs:

Final Fantasy XIII- 3 instead of a FF 5 or FF6 remake on the DS ? Not happy. Not happy at all. :grumpy:

Even if XIII- 2 bombs, knowing SE they'll still make FF XIII-3 because not everybody was thrilled on how the original game turned out, and they're making a sequel. I wouldn't be surprised if they make a FF XIII- 4 or FF XIII- 5. :ahmed:

Come on man, I don't want to be ranting here of all places, but there is no need for a second sequel unless XIII-2 leaves too much of a cliffhanger to do it. :ffs:
 
Final Fantasy XIII was the shittest game I've played in years, the fact Serah is lead character in Final Fantasy XIII-2 makes me feel like that will be even shitter considering it looks identical to Final Fantasy XIII as it is. They already made some bullshit excuse about how the fans asked for an XIII-2 what's there excuse for XIII-3.

Move on SE and realise XIII is not a good series.
 
Hahaa I realized I totally fucked up the date. Thanks for fixing it Livi xD. It was four in the morning so I was a bit.. not all there. xD Right well I said that people were going to hate. It is obvious that they were going to do it. You can travel into the future with the Historia Crux in XIII-2. I thought that was kind of a giveaway. You never know though, some certain events in XIII-2 may actually be hints at XIII-3. Also I will have to agree with you Livi, when you say that this is fully pushing it. Mainly because it really is! A trilogy of XIII... I fear this is just becoming like VII. Okay, simply put.. they registered the domain because they will do it. This is what Square Enix did when they registered XIII-2's domain.. and it was announced shortly after. So guys, I am sorry to say but this may actually be announced soon enough. It is quite possible that they will announce it either at TGS or after it. Or we can wait till as long as E3. Now that they registered it, it is quite probable they will announce the game soon enough. What will happen in an XIII-3 though? I can see where this is going now. Also, no Versus is not XIII-3. Versus is still Versus. It has not changed it's name. They renewed the trademark which is quite frickin funny. I am not saying they should have changed the name, but it really is about time they renew it. It really shouldn't have been in existence in 2006. Considering the development time and the shitty tidbits of info over 5-6 years time. If Final Fantasy XIII-3 is released before Versus XIII, I would love to see what the fuck is going on at Square Enix. Pushing it to hell here.
 
XIII-3. Well, that's a new one. Is the lead going to be Hope? Do it, SE. haha

As for Versus getting renewed, it better be worth the headache. Get that puppy into full production already. XIII-3 and the KH series can wait a little bit, eh?
 
I don't see this surprising at all. I think everyone is forgetting how much the Japanese loved Final Fantasy XIII. Everyone else might not have, but seeing how these kids can go this crazy over SpongeBob toys at McDonald's, I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing that over a sequel to FFXIII. Now turn your volume up and play that video again. That would be their excitement for a XIII-3 ;)

Versus will not be XIII-3. They would have to scrap everything in Versus to make it somewhat related. Any other name change could be possible. I'm all for a Versus name change. They should remove the number XIII from it.
 
I wish people wouldn't jump to conclusions. They aren't necessarily going to make FFXIII-3; especially if FFXIII-2 fails as much as many of the people crying in this thread think it will.

If they do make FFXIII-3, it will likely be because more NA fans do want it. They are really just keeping their options open with this.

Also even before FFXIII-2 is to be released there is already plans for a third game...that is freeking retarded man...

The only reason FFXIII sold that many copies is because of the anticipation of a great FF title....soon after most of the fanbase realised it was disappointing...and then sales declined...

SE realised it was not a complete succes and they admitted it...sequal meh whatever, but like Adri said a third game is really pushing it..

SE is digging its own grave if they continue this path...I hope for the fanbase's sake the sequal will not disapppoint you guys, but the third game IF IT WILL EXIST MAY YOU DIE AND RETURN TO THE DEPTS OF HELL WHICH YOU CAME FROM...

XIII-3? This is good news. XIII was undeniably the strongest the series, I'm so stoked for XIII-2 but knowing XIII-3 could be coming? Fucking amazing! Thank you Square Enix :)
They seem to be the only developer/publisher that really "gets it". You know what I mean?
 
I won't jump to conclusions yet, and hate on the possible XIII-3, but I am disappointed that they are not focusing on the other games that are much more anticipated.
 
Fuckity fuck fuck fuck. This is just showing that Square is WAY too confident with themselves. I doubt "fans" even asked for XIII-2 -_-. It looks like SE has gotten their heads so far up their ass that they now believe anything they put out will become an instant hit. I'm guessing the Japanese want more Western games because they haven't experienced as much of Western games that we Westerners have. Still XIII just needs to be done. They need to make another numbered game already and stop milking this one for all it's worth. GAWD, XIII had plotholes, XIII-2 will try to cover XIII's plotholes and leave even more plotholes due to it's chrono trigger element(which I doubt will be implemented into this game wisely) and XIII-3 is probably being secured to try to cover XIII-2s ass just in case.

Versus should save itself while it can and haul ass away from the FFXIII name like Type Zero. I'm really hoping the title gets changed or something happens to unassociate itself with this L'Cie mess. -_- It would at least restore my hope in the FF franchise...if not until I get my hands on it myself to see where I stand on the matter. This is all just becoming a big issue for FF newcomers who like the games and the fans who like the older games. I say lets forget FF XIII altogether. Next! Where's FF XV?

as for the versus 13 renew... i'm still going for a summer 2020 release :wacky:
