Square Enix may be re-releasing their most masterful titles in a single package. The Tokyo-based publisher trademarked the name “SE Masterpieces” in Europe five days ago, on May 11.

The trademark could mean anything. This writer would certainly consider a disc including Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII an “SE Masterpiece.” Or the three Kingdom Hearts titles for PS2.

E3 is less than a month away. Stay tuned.

I'd love to get my hands on FFX again, especially if it's gonna be remastered.

But if it's coming in with X-2 and XII....yeah, I'm not buying it just so I can play FFX. Waste of money.

Hmm this is very interesting to say the least. Square Enix have said this before. What exactly would a remastered edition be like? X was Fantastic and I a still not done X-2 in XII because I didn't begin playing again. Ah cant wait to see what is in store for E3. :ryan:

They would re-make the ps2 games before the ps1 games? really?

Something tells me they got to be older games... at least ps1 of not before that...

They're not remaking the games....

They're remastering them, which means they're enhancing all the graphics into an HD format to a blu-ray disc.

ok but still my point, why do those first before ps1 games? granted i guess they would rather re-make rather than "remaster" them.

But they could do what Sega did with there classics through them into a greatest hits or greatest collections all on one disk.

I've just done a mental count, and it seems that with that'll make all chronological FFs accessible (and by that I mean possible to get legally without visiting a boot sale, ebay, used game stores etc etc :wacky:)

I and II - PSP Remakes + On PSN store
III - DS Remake
IV - DS Remake and Complete Collection
V, VI, VII, VIII and IX - PSN Store
And soon X, X-2, and XII remastered. Just in time for Ps2 games coming near the end of their shelf life.

It's good that they're accessible, but I doubt I'll buy them, not until something happens to my original copies or if they offer something extra with them.

Because re-mastering PS1 games is kinda impossible since the graphics are so boxy, choppy, and all other terms relating to that.

There's already PS1 classics on the PSN store, remastering them would be kinda pointless.

I personally think this is awesomesauce. I might need to get a PS2/PS3 just for this.

Meh. I think they would re-master VII,VIII,IX and X. as their special pack. There some of the most Loved FF Titles. So re-mastering them would rake in the cash.

Plus Some staff would be happy. Didnt one of thems ay that a Re-mastered Version of FFIX would be his dream come true?

Since Final Fantasy XII is no doubt one of the strongest in the series, I would LOVE to see it in HD. The world of Ivalice is so beautiful, HD would do wonders for it.

But it only makes sense they'd want to cash in on the PS2 HD crazy of God of War, Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, Sly Cooper, Ico, etc etc etc

This has been mentioned by Yoshida long time ago ...so I guess that rumour will come true after all....ps2 games remastered..awesome..

And lol lol remastering ps1 ff titles are indeed pointless to remaster in HD ..I dont even think that is possible without remaking/rebuilding the whole thing..if they should do that why not voices as well...too much hassle..

FF12! finally I get the chance to play it again and in HD! must buy for me.

but like the splinter cell trilogy and ICO collection I can see this being realised in a time too far away....ages I have been waiting......

Hooray, another re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release to suck yet more money out of a dying franchise.

Pardon me but you really do not have to buy them. If people enjoy the franchise and want remastered editions, I am sure they would find the money worth it. Who are you to say the series is dying anyway? They are just remastered editions of the old games. Some people appreciate greater graphics if you have not noticed. I would not say these are useless at all. I am one who doesn't care so much about graphics but I loved X and I can reconsider on this.

There have already been remastered versions. There are 4 versions of FFX in the UK alone.

And by dying, I mean the quality of the franchise lessening. Read my thread in General if you want to get onto that.

Games don't need to be remastered and recreated and re-released endlessly. The reason why they are masterpieces is encased in their original game, you don't recreate and re-release a masterpiece just to pander to the graphicwhores.

Regardless, these supposed releases (seeing as how we don't even know what the trademark is for), is just an attempt to grab more money.

Well that is your opinion yes. Nobody is telling you and forcing you to buy these remastered editions though. If you do not like them and some others want HD graphics then let them be. HD graphics is probably an excuse for more money like you say but hey who cares in the end if you are not going to buy them. :monster:

Wouldn't you care if your local supermarket changed one ingredient in their ketchup and marketed it as a completely new and improved ketchup?

Seriously? That's your argument? Really?
First off, we don't even know if this Square Enix Masterpieces will see the light of day. And if they do, we don't know if they're going to be doing HD remasters of X, X-2, and XII (though that only makes sense, since those games are really hard to watch on an HD TV via PS2). But if they do, you don't know that they're going to market them as "completely new and improved". Considering every other PS2 remaster has been marketed as simply that, a HD remaster of a PS2 game (with trophy support!), you're kind of grasping at straws.
And further than that, come on, the supermarket doesn't even make the fucking ketchup.
Worst. Argument. Ever. I guess some people just like complaining for the sake of complaining.

Why the hell piece of shit X-2 would be in there? :srsly:

It's going to be dl again , anyway... No disc, no game for me.

Before we jump into a pit of angry debating about how much SE sucks and how pointless or not remastering games are, bear in mind that this is only speculation. It may not even be FFX, FFX-2 and FFXII. It could just be a whole sub-line of products for whatever occasion considering it's called "SE Masterpieces" rather than simply "Final Fantasy Masterpieces". Remasters of FFX, FFX-2 and FFXII or not, at least pray it isn't something as mundane as FFI to FFIV for the 3DS or something. At least with the more recent games you're making it more widely available to people who haven't a PS2 or who just haven't played them before, as opposed to the earlier games where they've been released countless times already. If it is FFX-FFXII then woo! Can we have the content that was previously Japan-only please? And the very thought of "FFX-2" and "Masterpieces" in the same sentence frightens me.
