There are many Christmas movies. Which are your favorites?

Mine:

It's A Wonderful Life.

Yeah I know, cliche. But it's very uplifting. This movie always makes me cry when I see it. I think it has a good message too.

Jingle All the Way.

I know a lot of people didn't like this one, but I have always found it funny.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

A favorite from my childhood :)

Elf.

A more recent one but Will Ferrel really makes the movie. I can watch this one every year and not get bored of it.
 
I'm quite fond of Jingle All The Way as well, even though its shown about fifty times every Christmas.

Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted Christmas is good as well, if only because the villain is an organ with a face. That is just awesome beyond belief ♥
 
My top two favourite Christmas mivies are without a doubt "Scrooged" with Bill Murray and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" with Chevy Chase. These are two excellent comedies from the 80's and a must see during the Christmas holidays. I've watched both at least 5 times.

I would also mention "Gremlins". It's not really a Christmas movie but the action takes place around Christmas. I found the little Gizmo is really cute when I was young and I was really scared of those hideous gremlins.

It's the obvious choice but It's a Wonderful Life deserves all the praise it gets, the ending is still so lovely to see.

Other ones I enjoy include The Muppet Christmas Carol (Michael Caine as Scrooge!), The Nightmare Before Christmas (which is wonderfully twisted) and Bad Santa (it isn't big or clever but it is very, very funny). And good call on Gremlins too, though I'm not sure if I'm supposed to find Phoebe Cates' speech on why she hates Christmas funny XD

Home Alone. I just love this one. It was back before the movies started being "Let's watch that kid set funny traps for the stupid burglars" and the overall plot was just cute. John Candy and Roberts Blossom ftw.

Mickey's Christmas Carol. Probably my favorite version of the story. Everything about this is beautiful. I only wish it weren't so short (barely half an hour long).

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. Another good adaptation (see; catchy songs). Not as high on the list as Mickey, but still good.

The Little Drummer Boy. Underrated I fear. The songs are fun, and they did a decent job pulling a backstory out of a single Christmas song.

The Nightmare Before Christmas. This is listed because Danny Elfman has an amazing voice.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The best-known of those little stop-motion animation numbers. Yukon Cornelius ftw.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Favorite of the animated lot. The last Christmas CD mix I put together had both "Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" on it.

A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned it looks like XD Home Alone definitely, I'm pretty sure I've seen it every single year at Christmas since it came out, and it has three of my favorite Christmas songs ever in it, along with being my favorite versions of them--the choir singing "O Holy Night" was mind-numbingly epic and made that into probably my favorite Christmas carol ever; also the "Somewhere In My Memory" song, which I've actually never heard anywhere else, and the version of...I think the song is called "Silver Bells," where he's setting the traps for the burglars--I love the hard edge they gave to it, it's awesome :8F:

Mickey's Christmas Carol was another really good one, I haven't seen it in years but I remember it was very well done, and I might look up the tape this year and watch it again :hmmm:

Jingle All The Way--I know a lot of people I've heard say they actually don't like it, but I think it's really funny--seeing Arnold being thwarted by a little Turbo Man doll throughout the whole thing cracks me up, and the part at the end where he
becomes Turbo Man
and his wife finds out, and she's like, "Howard?! :gasp:...Howard :kinky:" is so funny XD

Another one that I like is the Santa Clause. I've heard it get a lot of knocks for having somewhat cheesy sequels and such, but the first one still amuses me. I dunno, it's just got a certain charm to it with the kid developing a better relationship with his father, and David Krumholtz as the head elf was amusing to me, since he came across as so brusque and it's completely the opposite of the stereotypical "shiny happy" North Pole elves XD

I also still like all the old holiday specials too, like the original Frosty the Snowman and...whatever the one is where it's claymation and Baby New Year is going around trying to help out, and he's got the top hat and the big ears, it's so cute ^_^

Say what you want about the song, I find the childrens movie to have a beautiful story. Stop motion animation tends to freak me out and I still love this movie.

I love A Christmas Story. It's my favorite movie. A little kid wanting a BB gun, so he spends most of the movie trying to get one for Christmas. It's so cute.

I wish I was a little kid again.

Favorite song is totally "When the Goose is Hangin' High". I love how over-the-top Ben is.

I'm not a really fan of holiday movies to be honest but, there's one that comes to mind when I think of a Christmas movie.


The Christmas Carol


I've never seen the animated one (which I heard was good) but, we had an older version of it >.> (cant seem to remember the date the one after latest before the animated one?) which we watch every Christmas eve.

it's almost like a tradition haha. Though when I was younger especially, I was too anxious and excited to really pay attention xD.

Holiday Inn is a classic to me. I like the old hollywood feel of the older movies. The storylines are never outrageous, the actor/actresses have genuine talent and these are movies that generally stand the test of time. White Christmas has songs that tend to stick in my head throughout Christmas and I will never forget that crabby little kid having a bitch fit and knocking over all those snowmen in Meet me in St. Louis :P Jesus of Nazareth I like because I feel its a pretty accurate telling of Jesus and although it does make me sad at the end, it doesn't make me bawl almost the entire movie like the Passion of the Christ did. ...and a Christmas Story is hilarious and classic. I can't make it through the Christmas season without hearing Randy complain, crab, and moan....and without "RALPHIE, RANDY! YOU BETTER GET DOWN HERE IN TWO MINUTES!!!...AND I MEAN TWO MINUTES!!!" ...and yes, I watch the 24 hours of A Christmas Story on TNT...just about the whole running of it, actually. :monster:
 
There are a few films that I almost have to watch every year, or else Christmas just wouldn’t be the same. We’d tend to watch them within the build up before Christmas Day itself (about a week before). We say that, but we just know that we’ll forget to watch them all until Christmas Eve yet again.

Nightmare Before Christmas is one of them (and this is just because it is one of my favourite movies). I tend to watch this one on my own, as no-one else in my family really like anything gothic. My Dad enjoys this movie too (and finds the dark humour hilarious), but he probably wouldn’t want to admit it in front of my Mom.

Another one is the Muppet Christmas Carol. This one is a sort of tradition in my family as we always sit down to watch it on Christmas Eve. It’ll be strange to have a Christmas without having Kermit / Cratchit and Tiny Tim’s song stuck in my head the night before – even though I don’t care much for that song. I could try to be a badass here and shun this movie from existence, but that would be lying to myself. I was brought up on this movie at Christmas time, so it is embedded in me that every year it MUST be watched, or my soul will not rest during the Christmas week.

Another one is Santa Claus: The Movie (I think that is what it is called). I’m not really that keen on the movie anymore, but something feels wrong if I don’t watch it when everyone else does. The obviously (and ludicrously) robotic reindeers are worth a viewing alone, I guess.

A relatively recent addition to good Christmas movies would be The Polar Express. It’s a fantastically put together film, in my opinion, and I really do enjoy it when I see it.

It’s a Wonderful Life is another favourite film with great messages, though I tend to watch this one at some point during the Christmas week, but not before it. I’d tend to watch it about half way between Christmas and New Year (though maybe closer to New Year), as the film’s ending sees everyone singing away to Auld Lang Syne.

So these movies are the ones which I habitually watch at around Christmas time, and I’d like, or even NEED to take these with me throughout my life, and I’ll probably show any kids I may spawn in the far-distant-and-unlikely-future the same movies (amongst others of their own choice etc).
 
The Nightmare Before Christmas

I only watch this film at Christmas for some reason I can't watch it at any other time of the year cause I can't really enjoy it as much. It is one my favorite Christmas as I can only watch it at Christmas so it is something to look forward to. I really like the stupid humor and the catchy songs it has it seems that The Nightmare Before Christmas is more of a tradition for me at Christmas.

i honestly cant think of a christmas movie i could stomach for more than 10 minutes. Theyre all so predictable and dull ¬¬
Last year on christmas night pulp fiction was on so i happily enjoyed that.
But christmas films? no thanks :wacky:
 
I love the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. I don't know anyone that doesn't, but Charlie Brown is one of my favorite cartoons as a child. Sometimes I watch the specials when it's nowhere near the holidays .

And I also like How The Grinch Stole Christmas (animation and the Jim Carrey film). For one, it was just a funny movie, but I liked how some simple facts can make a person (or a Grinch) experience a change of heart. That and they all reside in a snowflake. How sweet is that ?

Bad Santa is hysterical. I actually keep a Talking Walnut on my shelf at work.

White Christmas a Christmas Eve tradition for us.

A Christmas Story is one that you get sick of each year because there's always a marathon of it.....but it doesn't matter. You have to watch at least once.

There was one that was on occasionally when I was younger called "The Christmas Toy(?)" I think it was actually a Jim Henson production. It was a similar concept to Toy Story in that the toys all came alive when humans weren't around - but had a morbid twist - in that if a human saw them moving around they essentially died.
 
Does The Sound of Music count as a Christmas movie? :lew: I know it has nothing to do with Christmas, but it's always on during the Christmas holidays, and it's a movie I'll always associate with Christmas. I watch it every other year, and it always manages to cheer me up, it's just such a uplifting movie.

As for Christmas-centered movies... the only one that immediately springs to mind is The Muppets Christmas Carol. We must have watched that every year at Christmas time at secondary school - and it's not once gotten old :lew: I could happily watch that every year.
