Young Student: Father Luther, I don't understand. I try to track down the origins of the seven deadly sins but I can't seem to figure out whether they were created by humans or if they existed long before our time. Now I stumbled across this ancient prophecy concerning the release of these sins once again during The End of Days, and during the rise of Lucifer. This has me really confused...weren't the seven deadly sins already set free?
Father Luther: Well yes and no. The seven deadly sins are indeed influencing this world, but they are far from free. As for their origins, I believe I should go back to the book of Genesis and explain a bit of information that is normally not included in typical Bibles.
Very well, my story begins like this....
There are many stories concerning the origins of evil in human nature. According to Judeo-Christian beliefs, the birth of evil can be tracked down to the myth of Adam and Eve, the first human couple said to walk the Earth.
According to the Genesis, the first human couple were said to be made in the image of God, and as such they held an immense perfection. Some could argue that they were in fact, God's favorite creation. Of course, there was one being among God's other children who felt jealous of the new status given to humans, and insisted that none should bow to such inferior beings.
His name was Lucifer, son of the morning, a high seraph and perhaps the most beautiful angel ever created. His beauty and power were so great that it was said that God truly loved this angel and that it was his favorite... his favorite until humans arrived.
Unable to bear the shame of being replaced in God's favor, Lucifer sought to convince his Father and all of the other angels that humans didn't deserved the existence they were given and they should have never been created.
Of course, Lucifer was driven by Wrath, bound by Pride, seduced by Lust for power, scarred by Envy, driven mad by Despair, Hungry for glory, poisoned by Greed, and in his arrogance he sought to set his throne higher than any other, even higher than God. He then sought to corrupt the first human couple to prove to God that they were unworthy. Unfortunately for humans, these events cost them and their descendants the immortality and they were forever cursed to suffer and die.
As for Lucifer, God sent The Archangel Michael to cast him into Hell. It was in there were Lucifer swore revenge against mankind and against the brothers who betrayed him.
Now may ask yourself...how could Lucifer be influenced by sins that were thought to be the incarnations of the darkest desires in humans? Perhaps there's more than it meets the eye and it is up to you to find out.
Young Student: So the sins originated from the angels, not from humans! This could bring the faith of most people crumbling down seeing that they consider the angels as flawless and perfect. But I still don't understand, if what you say is true and the sins are indeed imprisoned, then why do they affect us?
Father Luther: Well my child, simply because they can. Their power is so immense that upon release God commanded Michael to lock them in hell separated from Lucifer. Lucifer was powerful in many ways, and the day his beautiful essence was corrupted, the day he showed those emotions far different than the rest, that was the day the sins were born. The seven deadly sins were born out of Lucifer's corrupted mind.
When Michael defeated Lucifer, he wanted to make sure that his brother would never ever attempt to destroy the world, so he was forced to split Lucifer's power into seven entities named similarly to the emotions Lucifer felt when he rebelled. Lust, Greed, Wrath, Despair, Envy, Gluttony (hunger for power), and the one who was the prime catalyst of his downfall and by then the most powerful of sins: Pride.
If the sins were to be released, then it would surely mean that Lucifer would most likely break free and attempt to merge with the remnants of his power. And if he does... we will be doomed.
Young Student: Well let's hope all these prophecies about the release of the seven deadly sins and the rise of Lucifer are just that....old stories.
Father Luther: I pray that you are right. For the sake of all of us...
Present Day
A few hours before Leitner's assassination:
Father Leitner: You don't understand! You can't take the stone tablet away! It is said to be a gate to hell. The calamities that will befall on all of us if the gate is opened can not be meassured by our simple minds! Please don't take it way.
Mysterious Man: Oh shut up. I am tired of you and your silly superstitions. Why don't you just die.
The man aims his 45. handgun at the priest. The priest jumps at the Mysterious Man in an attempt to disarm him and recover the stone tablet but unfortunately he was shot in the struggle. Both the Father Leitner and the tablet fell to the ground. As the priest bled to death, the stone tablet was soaked with the blood of a holy man. Suddenly, the tablet cracked into halves and a tremor was felt in the building...
When the police arrived, Father Leitner was found dead next to the broken tablet and the body of what the police believe was the assassin was found gruesomely dismembered and disfigured.
Newsreporter: Now on last minute news. Markus Leitner, a priest and renown archeologist of Rome was found dead in his apartment. According to the police report, Father Leitner was currently in London in order to present his newest discovery. Of course most of the details of the whole event were kept secret in order to avoid possible robberies but rumors say that what Father Leitner had found was in fact a strange stone tablet named in legend as "The Gates of Hell". Whether this was true or simply something to create a hype, the exposition was permanently canceled.
A malevolent force stalks the streets of London attempting to draw this city population as well as the whole United Kindgom into the depths of Hell. The seven deadly sins walk free and they herald the rise of Lucifer from his prison...
Example of what to expect in this RP:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hmm I see interest then. Basically I was considering the setting to be in one of these big cities. First I considered New York, but heck Hollywood and many RPs have abused that location so many times. Then I thought of London, but was infatuated with the idea of Paris as well.
As for the story, well the Seven Deadly Sins are portrayed by some as simple forces that drive human desires, others refer to them as individual beings brought the day humans were first cast out of Eden, and a few others consider the Sins as demons or evil entities possessing different hosts, tempting people and dragging souls to hell.
As for the general theme, I wanted to keep it dark, with some humor and quite graphic. For example, if Wrath were to take over someone and that someone commits a murder...then the one playing as Wrath will have to write more than "and I stabbed his heart with my knife".
Let's say some people, could be teens, could be college students, professionals, adults, well doesn't matter really, accidently summoning the embodiments of the seven deadly sins into the world.
At first I considered playing with Quija Boards, don't know how it would fit, or one of them making a bargain with an entity that lets out the seven deadly sins from hell.
Or it could start by a robbery. Some thieves enter a museum, find this little pandora-esque box, one of them accidentally drops it, the box opens and the seven deadly sins get out, but that line seems weaker than the Quija Board one.
In summary, we let the seven deadly sins out of hell/prison and we must find any means to send them back while resisting their influence. Some of us could die, or maybe only people close to us. Another thing is since a character or two could be linked to a series of murders placing the cops/feds/agency on our tail which would complicate stuff.
As for skills/powers, well you get the abilities associated with your sin. Generally every sin has some level of telekinesis (able to move stuff with your mind, etc etc etc) but the real trick lies in the sin you are.
Example, if you are Greed, let's say you go into a shop and you see this employee getting yelled by his boss. You approached the employee, whispering to his ear how bad the boss has treated them and how they should get revenge.
Employee is driven mad, takes a pencil from the desk and stabs his boss in the neck repeatedly. Blood is splattered all across the floor and over the employee's face while his eyes show a slight reddish glint.
Basically that kind of stuff.
Of course, you can choose not to give into using your power and fight it off, seek redemption and shove its ass back into the pit.
You will be slowly possessed by your sin so you have as many options as you think to get rid of the sin or send it back. Among them you could consider:
-Suicide (which would only pass the sin to the next poor bastard....of course you as characters won't know that unless you consult some sort of arcane text book or spiritualist and please your character should work towards discovering it)
-Giving into your sin, which basically means you lost, the sin won and your go on a killing spree using whatever sin you have at your disposal to carry out the deed. Of course, the others might attempt and even feel compelled to kill you and stop you. (Killing will only pass it on to another poor bastard unless you use any blessed weapon, but those are hard to stumble across)
-Exorcism and all it comes with it. Gives our sin pals a free ticket to Graceland, aka, Hell. Of course, it could fail. Depends on how much your character has investigated the subject.
-You can lock the vessel and the sin inside some cage while you work in a way to get rid of the entity/sin. Be careful, they could break out and you could get killed.
On another note, the more you kill, the less likely you'll be able to resist their influence. The weather sucks, and the closer the sins are to each other the crappier it will get.
Your sin/power is both your greatest strength and greatest weakness.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Seven Deadly Sins:
+Each of the sins can be claimed by one person alone, but your character must find them and be possessed in the RP before you can start your story as a Sin. Your sin can be taken from you if you die or if your sin considers you unworthy or useless (like if the body [vessel] is too damaged).
Before being granted a position as a Sin, you must first investigate all that it's related with that sin. There's more than it meets the eye for each of these sins so pay attention to details.
I, the thread creator, will not take a sin, but I will take control of most of hell's minions, angels, and all sorts of nasty stuff that came out of hell as well as the soldiers of God who came down to stop it.
I can do things like putting you in a risky situation, frame you as the prime suspect of a murder, kill people close to you or simply send hell's minions after your skin.
If, as a human, you take in the essence of a sin, you'll first start to hallucinate before finally giving in. Remember, if you take in a sin and you are exorcised, well the vessel (meaning you) will most likely die (that will depend on your performance and for how long you have been a vessel and how damaged the vessel is). For example, if you are stabbed in the heart, and the Sin Demon is still in you, you won't die so long as the demon is inside you. Once he is gone...well you drop dead.
Now time to claim the sins:
+Pride: Amizon
+Wrath: Darquewillow
+Lust: Jenna Angel
+Sloth (Despair):
+Envy:
+Greed: Silver Shadow
+Gluttony:
Again, there's more to these sins than most people think. If you are going to pick one make sure you know that sin very well. I'll know if you take, let's say, Envy, and haven't read anything about it.
RP Bio Template: Well keep it simple, you can use the default RP Template provided by the RP Moderators or you can come up with one of your own.
Remarks: Remember, this RP takes place in 2010. Meaning no Dungeons and Dragons-type of heroes. Short knives, guns, and daggers are encouraged. Also remember you are to keep a low profile or else you'll draw too much attention and I, the thread creator, will send cops after your skin and the more mistakes you do, the more likely they will catch you.
You all have till next Wednesday. If you want more time, drop me a PM. By the way, this will be a very graphical RP. And by graphical you get the idea if, let's say, a demon of Lust is doing its trick (we'll try to keep it toned down), but again if you are a demon of Wrath and things get bloody expect a lot of blood and gore, and ripped bodies, and all of that happening. Be descriptive, be creative, and be my guest. Surprise me.
I will control most NPCs to try to keep most people on track and to prevent people being left behind, RP getting stuck, and other similar problems.
If you decide not to be a host for a sin and opt for a human role, be forewarned that I WILL tempt you, and by that I mean I will try whatever it takes to take you down and make you a vessel. Of course, it will always be up to you whether or not you give in. But the more you postpone it, the more creative I will become.
Character/Role Suggestions: You can be either a cop, or a doctor, maybe a lawyer, a corrupt officer of the law, a prostitute, well take a look at daily news and pick your poison.
IMPORTANT:
Also, bear in mind when the RP Begins...
If you draw too much attention (like publicly tempting people or try to stand out too much)
1st Call: Cops
2nd Call: Detectives
3rd Call: FBI
4th Call: Vatican
If you don't manage to elude the Vatican, the priests will go exorcist on your arse.
