Top Final Fantasy designer Tetsuya Nomura has rebuked fans of the series hoping for a PS3 remake of Final Fantasy VII, telling them he thinks the project won’t happen and that they should count themselves lucky if Cloud is recycled as a guest character in future titles.

Rumours of a remake of Final Fantasy VII, considered by many to be the highpoint of the series and by far the best selling, have long circulated, but all have been denied despite Square Enix going so far as to release a tech demo teaser featuring such a remake.



Now Tetsuya Nomura, famed as the character designer who projected the series to fame, scotches hopes of such a remake:
“There’s always talk of a FF7 remake amongst fans, and many seem to be looking forward to one, but I don’t think one will be realised.​
But maybe Cloud will crop up in other titles as a guest character? You never know.”​

UPDATE:

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase is equally pessmistic about the prospects of a Final Fantasy VII remake. The reason? "This issue is related to whether a Final Fantasy 7 remake will happen or not," Kitase told Ultimania magazine. "It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had. Making graphics will take enormous time."

Thank God for that, it's about time one of the leading figures in SquareEnix had the bottle to openly say there's not going to be a remake. It's been played on for far too long and SE have always known whether they had plans for a remake or not, they just used the huge FFVII fanbase wanting a remake to make even more money >.>
 
Even though we may have conflicting views on FFXIII, we're more than happy to give you a huge high-five over that post. :D

Finally, after years of whining, FFVII fanboys can finally shut up. :mokken:

The remake shouldn't happen, at least not now. Wait a few more years before it does. After all if they're going to remake FFVII they should at least remake V and VI beforehand. :mokken:
 
Heard about this a while ago. I was really hoping it wouldn't be a remake, kinda ruins the original for me. Now SE really needs to get cracking on a FF6 remake. I will crap my pants if they announce that.

The fanboys probably wont shut up, now their gonna cry about how there WONT be a remake.

OMG KUARDO IS THE BESTEST CHARACHTER IN THE WORLD KAWAII !!!!11!!!!11!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing a 3D I and II but I very much doubt it's going to happen, they've gone a bit overkill with the amount of remakes they've made for them both and they're probably going to stop now since they've updated the graphics on the PSP version and added content. As for III they've only just remade that recently as well so I can't see that happening either. Who knows :hmmm:

I'm actually glad to hear this just because I'm tired of hearing about/seeing FF VII. The whole compilation just gets on my nerves now and I can't even replay the game. >_>

Personally, I think they should remake Xenogears. I would buy a PS3 for that purpose alone. :mokken:
 
Bout damn time they squelched those rumors. FF VII has kinda died now, they overused it. How many titles we got for it again? 3, 4?

Anywho, if they remake FFVI for 3-D, i'll will personally kill someone on the street so i can have money to buy it. FFVI was the best!
 
I'm relieved I think.

I've feared a remake for a long time, so it is good news to hear that they are not going to do a remake. Now if people want to get into FF7 they should get into the original game, and play it for story, characters etc rather than for flashy visuals which would be all that a remake could have offered.

I'm a fan of the original game for my own reasons, and I saw no point in a remake, and could only fear that it would ruin it.

It means they'll put the resources and time into other projects, since they're not working on this, which will be great. Any other project they're working on would be more important than a remake.
 
I was never against a remake, I just didn't really care for it, but I admit if it would be available for a system I own, I'd check it out >_>

I was just peeved about the idea of it coming before a FFV and FFVI remake.

Despite Nomura's words, I really don't doubt a FFVII remake (he said he "thinks", doesn't know for sure), but as I already suspected, it just won't be a for a long time. I mean, I forget if it was Kitase or Nojima, but one of them said before there would be a remake, so I think the idea is still up in the air *shrugs*
 
Well, who knows? They might be just teasing FFVII fans (those that want a remake) >_> idunno, and if they do decide to do one I don't see it in the near future. I'm sure later on they'll change their minds due to popluar demand but, as for this news, I hope that's true just because I find it rather annoying listening back and forth about VII. :mokken:

Popular demand? People are growing sick and tired of FFVII. Nowadays you see more people absolutely burnt out on it than you do obsessive fans like you did back when Advent Children came out. I high doubt they're teasing. It would be cruel to up and say there won't be a remake just to tease fans. His statement wasn't playful or cheerful. It sounded pretty final if you ask me. Also, I want to see other games. I want to see NEW games. I'm sick of FFVII and I am so damn glad they are not remaking it. Not only that but there is the fear they'd ruin the original anyway.
 
Reggie from Nintendo has blatantly lied before about Nintendo's projects. I think Nomura is just shutting down hopes so that it will be a big surprise when they do the remake. Because it will happen, I would bet my life on it. Seriously, I have that much faith that it will happen. Maybe not this year, or next year, or even 10 years from now, but mark my words: It will happen. When it does, remember that Lionheartcs told you it would.

I'm actually not all that excited about the remake (I'm much more excited for Versus XIII), but I just know it will inevitably happen.
 
We'll give you that. However, it's nice to know that it won't be in the near future, and for the time being, the rabid fanboys can shut up about it. :D

We swear, some people seriously looked at that game as the second coming of Jesus or something. They should make another Chrono game before they even THINK about making a remake to FFVII. :mokken:
 
Thank God for that. That cow has been milked WAY too many damn times. But I can see the faboys wont take this lying down and it wont be long before one or more start up the rumor again.
