At least you made the right choice. This is probably the first post of yours I've read that hasn't made me want to bash your skull in with a tack hammer. Congrats. >.>
I definitely say rock. I'm a huge fan of classic rock, right when the genre rebirthed after disco. That was good shit. The original shit is alright but I really like it after it came back. I'm a huge fan of Led Zeppelin and the like. Modern rock is alright but it's pretty hard for me to warm up to it. Every once in awhile I'll find a song by Metallica or NIN that I dont' mind... but it's not really my thing.
Rap pretty much just sucks huge donkey balls. It's horrible. It's not my thing and I've never had an interest in it. The only thing I like about the very rare rap song is when an artist is smooth. Rap allows the artists to be very smooth in their lyrics. Snoop and Juelz Santana. Other than that, rap is crap.

Yea im a rock and roll guy myself, i like some indie like the arctic monkeys and the fratellis, older bands like pink floyd and the doors. Then theres the more alternative rock bands like jimmy eat world, lostprophets etc. Cant really say im a fan of rap/hip hop at all its not music i can get into, i like something with a little more 'go' in it. Theres nowt better than going and seeing a good band live, the atmosphere is amazing.

Rock for life. It was a pretty easy choice because anything verse RAP would be my pick. Unless it was Country vs Rap...that might just be a null vote I think.
Anyway, I've always been a rock n' roll girl really, even though I can pretty much listen to anything. Once again: besides Country and Rap.

I think rock is much better I hate rap like really much. I just do not enjoy rap at aall and I always have hated it. Its just I do not like the things they talk about in rap. Rock is much better.
You can put away your weapons rack now whenever you see me. Yeah, I hate rap. You've got death metal, thrash metal, horror metal, melodic metal, black metal, etc. and each has its own set of fans.

It probably sounds the same to me. They all advertise alcohol, sex, and the LSD your dealer down the street sells. Rap officially sucks!
Being honest the only thing i can find myself liking about rap is the lyrics and what they sing about, ok maybe some of these tales from the ghetto are a bit exagerrated but i do enjoy hearing someone singing about events in their past which has made them the person they are today. I like the first hand truth in the words. All these artists have to do is throw some guitars and drums into the mix pick up the singing speed and voila.
Yo LD, I actually listened to a few Lost Prophets songs... which ones do you like specifically (not to get this too off-topic). Rooftop was alright but I didn't find a ton I loved...
my favourites = cant catch tommorow, i dont know, cant stop gotta date with hate, last summer, we still kill the old way, to name a few. Rooftops i like aswell but the ones above are my favourites.

I'm more of a rock-man myself. I never listen to rap or hip-hop or anything like that. I used to hear it all the time as where I used to go running was slap-bang in the middle of gangland Birmingham, and that sort of music was playing EVERYWHERE.
But I'm safe now.
However, there are more genres than rock and rap, but I would say what I listen to more closely resembled rock than rap, as rap is completely different in style and feel, whereas many other types of music could potentially be made to fit rock.
I tend to listen to prog-rock and prog-metal. I'm not so much keen on thrash-metal or when the guitar is used a bit too much unless it has good lyrics and other instruments behind it. I.e I don't listen to the music to headbang, and don't like simply "VRUMUMDUMADUMADUMADUMADUMADUMA ZquigoooooooaaaaarrrZZOO VRUMADUMADUMADUMA!" without anything behind it... But I suck at knowing what different genres involve, so I can't comment much.
I've been taking more of a liking to electronic music than normal rock though lately, which I feel is similar in ideas and overall feel, but with different sounds and sometimes interesting use of instruments (and synthesisers I must add). So what I listen to mostly at the moment verges on the rock-electronic boundary. If not then prog-rock (i.e early Genesis, solo-Steve Hacket, Peter Gabriel solo, though some of his stuff verges on electronic again so...), or some classic rock (Rolling Stones on occasion, David Bowie, though I like to listen to some of his more funky songs too, and I don't know what genre they belong to).

Exactly. Why is there a need to choose? I tend to listen to a lot more 'rock' (and that is a very loose term in itself) than I do rap music. But that doesn't mean that I hate all rap or that it is all rubbish. There's plenty of good stuff out there in both areas.

If you like Arctic Monkeys, you should really check out Muse if you haven't already. I used to like Arctic Monkeys a lot, and I still do, but Muse just like, gave me a high off of life
but at least it takes skill to be a rocker, as opposed to sounding like a gorilla that sets a MIDI program to play their 'music'. xD
I tend to call shit artists by stage performance, since it's really stupid to say a genre of music is just shit because I don't like it.
Rappers always put on shitty shows with their soulja boy shit and like, 10 guys doing the same choreography.
Get some niggas up in dat grill doin sum fuckin backflips and hangin from those light things doin sum gymnastix shit and break dancin, yo! u hearin me dawg?
But simply; my preference is set to the wild and exciting genre of rock or anything else that has guitar, bass, and drums in it.

Rock advocates taking drugs a whole lot more than rap. Rap will have people talking about smoking weed, which is harmless and everynow and then selling some crack cocaine.
Rock on the other hand has songs about Heroin; Brown Sugar, Godsmack and more.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds = LSD.
Also there are the musicians themselves, Jimmy Page, from Led Zeppelin was almost a junkie for 12 years. John Bonham of the same band drank himself to death when he was about 33.
Kurt Cobain was a lot more than a casual user, and Layne Staley of AIC fame, died of a Heroin overdose. Hendrix was so stoned that he drowned in his own vomit. Rory Gallagher's use of perscription drugs and alcohol lead to his liver failing.
That said, I prefer rock for the reasons listed by all the previous people.

You can add the velvet underground to that long list aswell, they actually had a song called heroin, which was about shooting up. Look at syd barret aswell he completely fried his brain on LSD and became a complete recluse for 30 years. All these great bands many of the singers are influenced by the way drugs change their perspective(jim morrison) its what gives them their lyrics.
Between the two choices I'd have to go with any rap produced before 2004-ish. After that the industry just went downhill. Overall rock isn't my favorite genre, other than just having fun mutilating a popular song, and by mutilating I mean singing while making no attempt to sing well.

I prefer rock, but I don't completely hate rap. While I dislike most modern mainstream rap, I still enjoy listening to a few artists. Some of the artists I like include; Jurassic 5, Hilltop Hoods, Cypress Hill, Xzibit, Eminem, N.W.A, Snoop Dogg & Dr Dre.
I generally find it hard to take modern mainstream rap seriously (artists like Soulja Boy, 50 cent, Ludacris ect..). I often just listen to their music because I find it funny Eg:

But, as I said before, I do prefer rock to rap. In my opinion I don't think rap can surpass bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who and Pink Floyd, but that is just going by my own personal tastes. I think that the best rap is generally (but not always) produced with a band as opposed to being made from samples or on a computer. Rage Against the Machine is a textbook example of rap done right in my book (which is coincidently a mix of both rock and rap).

But there are a few really talented rap artists that I haven't gotten sick of after listening to for years. For example 'The Calling' by the Hilltop hoods, is one of the few albums I have where I like every track on it. '2001' by Dr Dre is another great album that I could listen to over and over. I'd rate those albums higher than the majority of modern rock bands.

Has to be rock for me. I like different genres from different times like some of my favourite old bands are AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin to todays bands that I like with Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman etc. I like a bit of alternative rock, hard rock, heavy metal, alternative metal, thrash metal, groove metal, post-hardcore, emo, indie rock, folk rock, punk rock and nu metal. Genres like pop rock and Metalcore would probably be pushing it to me but some songs I can tolerate. Pop rock is at most time too watered down and not very technical for me whereas I am not a fan of constant screaming in Metalcore but some of it is alright I guess. I would still listen to them both over rap anyday. For me, songs that rock artists are a little easy for me to relate to and also I see a lot of talent for a band to be able to perform rather than have a generated beat that is probably ripped off an old song.

I'm into hard rock bands now. Bands like, CheVelle, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Disturbed, Jet, Wolfmother, Evans Blue, Flyleaf, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, A Perfect Circle, Shinedown.
