When making threads, do you generally put a lot of thought into it, or do you just wing it?

I'd give my opinion, but I think I'd rather save it for some other time. Because right now, my answer would be "I wing it" when sometimes I'd rather strive for something with a bit more thought in it.

I usually grab the nearest book, flip it open to a random page, stab my finger profoundly and upon that word, I try to built a thread on it.

I leave it entirely up to fate :mokken:

There's so many different threads and topics in this forum, it's hard for me to come up with a decent topic thats not already on here. But, of course if i'm going to make a thread, why not put effort into it? Just wouldn't make much sense to me. I came to this forum to post and make threads for a reason i'm not gonna put a half-ass job into it. Ya know? Unless its in Spam :mokken: but, i hardly post in spam anyways so eh, dont matter.

Well, it depends on what I am making the thread on. If it is just going to be something stupid, I will just wing it, because the thread is meant to have no real topic. Whereas if I want to have a discussion, I will make sure that I include what I want to discuss, so that the topic is clear and people can discuss.

I don't think there has been a time where I've not put thought and effort into the threads I create.

Like DeadFantasy, I know there are already a lot of threads on this forum that have already covered the topics I go to post a thread about, so that sort of pushes me to think a bit harder.

Usually when I do think of something there is already a thread made. I know this by searching for it first before making said thread and then I just post my thoughts in there.

But yeah the only time I am half assed with my threads are when I'm bored, no one is posting and so I go into Spam and post something just to keep me occupied for those few minutes it takes to create a thread. XD

I put as much effort into it as I need. Though, I've noticed a "one of three possibilities" thing going on whenever I make a thread. Those three things are:

1) I make a thread that actually peeks people's interest and it gets off the ground. Usually followed by constant replies that strike up a fairly interesting conversation between members. This it the possibility that happens the least

2) I make a thread and maybe like two people post in it and it's never spoken of again.

3) I make a thread that blows up in my face.

But, nevertheless, I always try and make threads that I think people are going to be interested in. Or at the very least, I'll get feedback to a topic that I find interesting.

I only make a thread if it is needed or if I want to have a discussion. I make sure it has a catchy title and perfect grammar and punctuation. Sometimes, I refer to quotes for the title.

If I have an idea for a thread, I mull over it for about half a day, and then I end up posting it. I don't ususally come up with topics though, I usually just leave it for someone else to do and then I comment on their threads.

We have so many threads here though...so I don't really feel the need to post new threads very often. As far as posting topics that a lot of people will respond to...well thats left up to fate.... *rolls dice* :monster:

Usually, while in the car, eating, trying to fall asleep, ect... I'll have a random thought. think about it, and then think, I'll post about this on FFF later/tomorrow and see what other people do or think.

Or I'll be bored, wonder if other people online are bored, and think up of a topic for others to think about and respond to.

It depends on the subject matter, if it's something serious that would involve a lot of debate and in-depth discussion, I'll put a lot of thought into it, and make sure I get my opinions across. Although, I hardly ever make those types of threads, nine times out of ten, like Rydia, I'll have a random idea or thought, and wonder what everyone else would think, so I'll just wing it and often post my opinion later.

I usually just randomly think of summat, then I'l just type randomly and hope for the best

Whenever I try to think of a topic to post about, I think in the most random way possible. Then depending on what the topic is is when I decide to be silly or put some deep thought into it. I've made several threads that you'd have to put thought into when you reply, like in a debatable discussion (ex: gay rights) and some other threads that where you can just be ridiculous about what the topic is (ex: I love Subway) .

I tend to put thought in it. Sometimes I have an idea for a thread, make a note that I'll one day make it, and then days or weeks later eventually get around to making it.

In my opening post I do think I tend to write the basis of my opinion, just in case no-one posts and the thread fails meaning that I wouldn't ever get to express it in another post. This includes spam. :brooding:

I don't make many threads as a result. I do, however, have a fairly large list of topics pending in a word document. I just haven't yet figured out the best way to get them out there. For many, I probably never will.

Copy and pasting news threads ftw. Bollocks to typing it all out trying to make it all original only for it to contain exactly the same information anyway. Might as well leave it to the pros or people who've been doing it for an age. :busta: Outside of news threads I hardly make threads anyway, just post in other peoples' :busta:

I actually have a horrible habit of over analyzing, especially when it comes to making new threads, which I don't do often. My problem is, I will mentally calculate the possible responses or outcome to the topic that I would post and it kind of becomes an insanity, especially when most of the time I'm just mostly calculating the possible negative outcome of the topic i.e. flaming or personal attacks because in other forums I've been with in the past, flaming would often occur in topics and that was something you had to expect or be ready for, especially if it was a debate topic. I'll re-read my post sometimes over and over and won't post it usually until I feel really good about what I'm trying to say. That's just me though...

It depends on the topic. I generally just go with the flow for more relaxed threads. For more serious ones, I put a fair bit of thought into them. I rarely make those kinds of threads though, I often get started and either give up because I end up answering my own questions or because I cba.

Well I pretty much make threads exclusively in the 'Spam Coliseum', so obviously I have to put in a lot of effort and not just wing it. I like to begin with a think tank composed of 46 Hollywood executives, all of whom have monosyllabic names like Tai, Jay, and Zane. They also drive jaguars fuelled by the blood of peasants, but that is irrelevant.

Once my think tank has generated an original(an idea that no one any longer remembers the source of) idea, I commence with my public testing. Assembling a group of fifty 20 year olds, of course 20 year olds are notoriously fickle so instead I substitute them with two hundred and fifty 4 year olds.

If the thread idea does not receive a 100% approval rating in the first round of testing, we of course rectify this. I have found routinely eliminating whatever child has marked the idea lowest, tends to generate second round testing approval ratings of at least 127%!

After this I assemble a team of top NASA engineers, to develop the technology to construct a machine capable of constructing a machine that can convert the idea from a tangle of buzzwords into a tangible sentence. One of the NASA scientists is then of course routinely sacrificed(I'm not sure why, but I've done this for so long now it seems silly to change it)

Finally I transpose the output of the machine into the message box after pressing the new thread button

My first two threads I put thought into, then eventually I said eff it and winged the rest. They haven't been too bad. But yeah man, the thought process was taking up way too much time. So if something popped into my mind after that I'd just post it without caring. Like I said, some were not that bad. Others were just Meh.

The only time I ever put thought into making a thread was when I made a thread about Emu's being terroristic birds and how scary and mean they are... Other than that, not really...

I'm going to have to think more

I used to put a lot more thought into it years ago (no really, I did), but these days I’m just lazy. I normally post using my phone now so I’m sure that doesn’t help.

I don’t really create topics anymore. Sometimes I’ll drop subtle hints to people and hope they’ll make the topic themselves. I’m very good at that. 😎 I’m more interested reviving old threads and making people cringe at their younger years, including myself.
