[h=1]Final Fantasy XIII announcements expected September 1[/h]
20120720ffversusxiii-280x80.jpg

Square Enix has detailed its plans for a three day Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event, and according to Andriasang, will give a presentation on the future of the Final Fantasy XIII “project”. It’s not entirely clear what this means although there won’t be any more DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2 – so we may be graced with a XIII-3, if domain names are anything to go by. But wait, there’s more – maybe the publisher will finally give us some hope for the long-delayed Final Fantasy Versus XIII, or a sequel to Type-0, both once touted as part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis sequence. The FFXIII presentation takes place on September 1.

STAY TUNED!

Longer news (Thanks Ballade for the heads up):

Square Enix will detail future developments for the Final Fantasy XIII project on September 1 during a stage show at the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event in Shibuya. The publisher outlined its full plans for the event today.

The 25th Anniversary event will be held from August 31 through September 2. The first day will be an early demo event and opening ceremony exclusively for the press and some lucky members of the Square Enix Members fan club. The following days are open to the public.

The Final Fantasy XIII stage will be held on September 1 at 11:30. The stage is titled "Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Saga: New Developments Presentation." Square Enix is promising details on the future of the FFXIII project. The game's producer, director, art director and other members of the staff will be in attendance.

Other stage shows on September 1 include a Final Fantasy XI music presentation and a Final Fantasy XIV special stage which promises new information on the long awaited Version 2.0 revision.

The September 2 stage events kick off with the Final Fantasy VII 15th Anniversary Stage. This stage will feature appearances from voice actors. Later that day, Hajime Tabata, Yusuke Naora and other developers will appear for a live recording session of Square Enix's Squeni Chan! Presents radio broadcast. The topic for this is a discussion of the future of Final Fantasy.

Square Enix has not made any mention of live broadcasts for these stages, so we're going to have to wait for details to trickle out from attendees or press.

This could be really interesting. They will discuss the future of Final Fantasy! This and the rumour thread (which has a high probability of being fake) sparks something in me. Jizzles!

However I really really hope it gives me the answers I have been waiting for so long!

Wether I'll be disappointed is not the case. I'll see that when the time comes. :britt:

Well this sounds interesting, to do S-E justice they need to show gameplay and a release date for FFVXIII and then announce FFXIII-3 to please the people who want conclusion and sadly I am one of them people haha. Well it isn't that far away either...god I have this and the Metal Gear Anniversary event at the same point in time. Two of my favourite franchises with big news! *headache*

...I think it's going to be a very short discussion, don't you?

Well, one way or another, it's going to give me - and a few million other people - something to complain about, so I suppose it has SOME value. Watch Toriyama hype it up beyond all reasoning and then crash harder than a drunken teenager driving a car when it doesn't sell as well as he wants it to. Then B'AWWWW, NO FFVII REMAKE FOR YOU EVER BECAUSE YOU HATE US comes from everyone else as they try desperately to calm a stricken Toriyama down, to no avail, only to have him jump from the top of the Square Enix HQ to his timely and grizzly demise...

...hey, SOMEONE has to put an optimistic spin on this thread, right? Even the ever-optimistic mods are losing hope :lew:

I would pay to see this happen. lol.

It's probably going to be more about FFXIII-3 (don't really care) with maybe a brief update on FFVersus (the only thing I really care about but will probably end up getting nothing new). Then showing off the new and improved FFXIV (whatever). But I'm still interested in what they have in store for those days. If they're discussing the future of FF then I'll listen to what they have to say.

God this will never end....ffvxiii better be anounced. Hopefully this all ends with that or some alternate 13 universe like versus.

Hopefully, we will have news of XIII-3, which would be better than the current DLC. ;) 'Lightning' implies there will be!! :yay: I'm keen to see the XIII saga completed; not because I hate it, but because it's about time we discovered the ending! I want to know what happens next!! :gasp: The ending to XIII-2 just can't be THE ending; although I will accept it if it is... I suppose. :wacky:

It would be quite nice to see a connection between XIII and XIII-2, beyond what we have currently, but we shall see. :hmmm:
Perhaps Serah and Lightning are saved at the end of XIII by...Lightning herself? :gasp: And Lightning is taken away from Serah in XIII-2 because she becomes a paradox...now can she be in Valhalla AND in Pulse? :lew: Oh, how I love to throw theories out there.

When it comes to Versus XIII... 'Lightning' implies we won't hear anything about it, which will upset millions of fans. -_- When it comes to Versus, I personally don't feel there is anything to be hyped about. We haven't been given enough info to feel excited. So my fingers are crossed for news of a new, promising FF title (whether it's VersusXIII or FFXV) - in addition to news of XIII-3. :wacky:

I have to agree with Juliet.

The reality is that the level of mediocrity in the last few Final Fantasy games is appalling.

I am a long time fan, and I have never been more bored in my life (save when I played FFVIII and FFX) than when I played that abomination called FFXIII.

I will not lie, nor do I wish to exaggerate, but I attempted to play the game 4 times! I have never gotten past the 17th hour mark.

Safe to say that, lest there be a redeeming "Golden Title" in the works, the Final Fantasy series may have a generation or two more to live.

If that indeed is the case, best to let a series go with dignity (Shenmue), than to bring shame to its loyal fanbase (Duke Nukem...FF)

The reality is that, as long as the sheep line up to buy the regurgitations of SE, they in turn, will continue vomit the next piece of garbage into the market.

Lightning Saga. *snort* Really? That's a thing now? I haven't laughed at the use of the word "saga" this much since they decided to use it for the Twilight films.

Go on then, bring it on with the next one, because hey, this is what the franchise has been reduced to. If recycling assets and creating an incoherent mess of a product can still sell like hotcakes, why not do it again? Heck, why not keep doing it, because it's obvious that for some reason, Lightning is the best thing to have come out of Japan since ninjas? Why end there with a third game? Why not go the Kingdom Hearts route? Keep making them! Grab unused assets from other games you produced and turn these assets into useful FFXIII-sequel assets for future games! Go up to FFXIII-13 where Lightning and Caius are the size of gas giants and have to throw fireballs the size of Mars at each other?

It's clear by now that this is the more profitable way, because if it's anything bigger, Square-Enix just can't manage them anymore, which is why they've been harping on about the need to end large-scale internal development and embrace outsourcing more thoroughly. If by some miraculous chance we do reach FFXV before we all die from old age (or before they announce bankruptcy and shut down), how many direct sequels will that game spawn? Will they even manage a tenth of the numbers that FFXIII managed at this rate? Oh, silly me. This is Final Fantasy. Of course it will sell.

And expect Versus information to be pushed back again. We can't have it overshadowing this and FFXIV 2.0, can we?! Back of the queue again you go. "It's time for Versus" my arse.
