Now that FFXIII has been released, we thought it would be a good idea to restart this thread so XIII is included fairly.

Which game do you think is the worst in the FF series? Posts such as "omfg FFIII are lamez" will not be tolerated and will be deleted as spam. You must post reasons why you think the game you've voted for is the worst.

Every FF game ever made will not be listed alone in the poll since there would probably be over 9000 selections. If the title you think is worst isn't on the list, please select other and specify in your post which one you chose and why.

FF I was by far the worse.

All the remakes still haven't resurrected this fossil of a game. It just did not withstand the test of time and compared to later entries in the series, it pales in comparison. It did not have very good graphics and the story was very bland and boring. The gameplay was great, but it needed much more to be enjoyable.

FFV, hands down - no competition.

X-2 had a really shitty story, but at least the gameplay was tolerable and introduced bosses that weren't the same as the last one you fought.

can we restart this thread without X-2? It's going to ruin the results again and it doesn't even belong in the same category as the other FF games

Here's the Edit: FF Tactics is technically a Final Fantasy game too. X-2 is more of a spin-off like Crisis Core etc, as it wasn't developed with the same intentions as other FF games. So I think we'll get better information if we exclude X-2 from this list. If not it's going to run away with this poll once again for obvious reasons.

So, it should be clear that I think X-2 is a level below the main FF titles. Other than that I'm not sure what you want me to add. It running away with the last poll spoke volumes about the game.

Mod Edit: I've edited the first post for clarification. Every FF title can't be included on the poll. This is why there is an option for other. Again, X-2 will not be removed from the list as it is an FF game and the thread is for ANY game with the Final Fantasy title, not just the main numbered ones. So again, please give your reasons for your selection as specified in the initial post. Thanks. :)

Well, oddly enough my choice wouldn't be X-2 cause I'm kinda using a different criteria (only wanted X-2 omitted because I think it would produce much more interesting results, but maybe we can make a second thread?)

Anyway, my choice would be X, because I think it was a rough turning point for the series. To me X lacked a "freedom" element which was prevalent in nearly every RPG before it. It may have been forced because of the newer generation graphics (can't really have world maps etc) but that element I'm talking about is one of the more important things in a RPG to me. Also, I didn't like any of the characters particularly much (the voice acting didn't help here.)

I think X is a game that you'll love if it's your first FF, but if not it's going to be hit or miss, and it all depends on which elements you valued most in the previous titles.

I'd have to go with X. To me the game lacked a lot of depth, the change from exp to the sphere grid didn't make me to happy either. The voice acting didn't really help, the characters weren't that interesting to me except for Auron and Kimarhi, but the lack of the atb and no world map really did it in for me, maybe i just am to much of an old school rpg fan but i always enjoyed being able to control my own airship and search for hidden areas

I'm going to have to go with XII. To me the story just really wasn't that interesting and I couldn't really bring myself to like any of the characters...with the exception of Balthier they all pretty much bored me or annoyed me and a couple of them I literally forgot were even there. For me that game was just really lacking....and I hated the battle system, it just didn't work for me at all.

Well, my views have changed. I wont vote for VII as the worst as now when Ive had a good think ... its not to me.

XII is terrible! The so called lead character wasnt a lead character at all, Vaan was just a whiny little bitch who had no leading abilities and was IMO no lead character at all. Penelo ... trying to hard to be Rikku way to much. The battle system, this real time bollocks should be left to action games, an RPG has a turn based element, not hacking as quick as you can before you die! Story got so damn confusing so quickly and I ended up switching off and havent bothered my arse completing the game!!

I voted FFII, because I think the character development system is horrible. It could have been good, but it just wasn't executed properly, particularly in the original NES version. The "keyword" system in the field doesn't work too well either in my opinion.

FFII never gripped me like FFI and FFIII did (its "peers" if you will). FFI has an epic nostalgia feel to it, and FFIII had the job system, which was fantastic at the time. FFII had nothing particularly interesting about it.

Its gotta be X-2 for me .... to me it just wasnt a FF game at all, the story was rubbish and the gameplay was even worse plus it was way too short for me

I'd have to say XIII. Its linear design coupled with a forgettable story and cast make this game less of an adventure and more of a trudge towards the finish line.

Before you all stick the boot in I am aware that all RPGs are linear experiences but what this installment lacks is proper pacing. Take towns and cities out of the game and gone are the respites and personal interactions with the world. Take sidequests out and theres no break from the story driven experience.

It all makes for a taxing - and to Square's credit memorable experience -__-

I wouldn't include X-2 with the other FFs much in the same way I wouldn't include FFXI in the poll. Neither are part of the numbered series to me. (I am aware that XI fits within the numbered series).

How did I know X-2 would be leading in the polls? It gets so much unnecessary hatred (and most of the people who hate it never even finish it :wtf:)

And why do people insist on it not being a real FF title? It's a direct sequel, not a spin-off like Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus...It's X part 2.

Anyway I voted XII as my least favorite. I didn't necessarily hate the game but if I had to choose my least favorite it would be that one. I just wasn't feeling the story unlike the rest of the FF's I've played. The only thing I really loved about the game was how fun the battle system was.

The first one. Lets be realistic, its the first and the worst. Worst story, worst combat system and worst characters.

Theres just no way I would consider X-2 a worse game than this one. Even if it is the first in the series and it paved the way, Nostalgia need not apply with me, I played the living hell out of this game back in the day, and LOVED IT. But its so generic compared to any FF these days. I own this game for the NES just because I collect, and would never choose to play this one over x-2. I dont even understand why all the hatred goes toward x-2, the battle system is like top 5 on my list personally.

For me Final Fantasy II would have to be the worst. I just hated the idea of leveling up your magic, I also didn't like that there was so much backtracking in the game.

Final fantasy tactics(spinoff) seems to be pretty boring, its perhaps the most boring final fantasy game ever made. The storyline sucks and gameplay is tiring, dont get this game if your planning too,not sure what the reviews are for it but as far as im concerned, its boring overall.

Final Fantasy II has the honour of being awarded the worst FF game by me this time. The levelling system is the worst idea ever and should never be dug up from its grave again. Your characters start with a clean slate and the more you do an action, the more adapt you are at it. Great idea on paper - just ridiculous in practice. If I want to make my characters' HP go up at a quick rate, I will have to make them attack each other like drunken idiots. If I want to heal myself at the inn - the price can be ridiculously high based on the difference between my current stats and my maximum stats.

Now for the story and characters. Granted, FFII's lot are not as one dimensional as FFI's, and the story is much better. But seeing as though I enjoyed FFI more, that doesn't really matter. The story is still generic and rather unexciting at times. The Emperor wants to conquer the world. Why? He's just evil. That's about it. The part where Guy can speak to beavers made me laugh though.

I have to disagree. The story in FF Tactics was amazing and far more interesting than a lot of the main series storylines, imo. The battle system isn't for everyone though, I'll admit that. The battles can be very long and quite dependent on character classes; plus everyone is not into Tactical RPGs.

On the subject of the worst, I'm going to go with VI. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get into the game. I didn't care for the characters, the dialogue was silly and I just found the game to be extremely boring. I keep trying to convince myself to pick it up again and at least try and finish it but no luck so far.

Well I dont like games with no voice dialogue at all(especially if its in movie scenes),I always show concern wheter a game has good gameplay but crappy storyline,I care about the storyline too.But for this game imo makes you lose a lot even if your careful, people give up on it so easily.I have a game which is meant to be very similar to tactics, its bleach the 3rd phantom,i loved the storyline but the gameplay was pretty poor,I beat the game and theres a non storyline bonus you get and someone like me gave up on the game after experiencing that bonus thing.

Really? That's one of my favorites :hmmm: Anyway, I'm going to have to say FFI. I only played partway through it, and I'm sure it would be good if they remade it now with the more current systems, but I just didn't care for the feel of it as it was. I think it was mainly the random battles, it seemed like there were too many of them and I wasn't crazy about the boxy layout of the battle screen.

I'm still going to have to go with Final Fantasy XII.

I did not enjoy that game at all.

I think I got a quarter of the way through and it just felt so bland.

Nothing really pulled me in and made me want to play it. =/

I didn't really like any of the characters either. >.<
