Wada: Square Enix to “explore” an FFVII remake [3/23]

I'm indifferent to this news since my cousins never played this game and I would rather have them finish their current project before they make remakes.

I know FF 7 is popular but Square Enix please, don't do it unless you really want to do it and not because of the fans

Well, if you think about it, it's going to happen. I mean, hell, they remade FF IV what...4 times, er 3 times? Same with FF VI. The original SNES, PSX, GBA and then the DS version.

And people want FF VII (most likely for better graphics) remade more than they wanted those remade.

If they do remake it, I don't want to see development get slowed or halted on any of the other projects that SE has going on, planning for XV or current development/beta testing for XIV. I'd personally like to see what SE is capable of with FF VII gameplay on FF XIII graphics engine. Seeeeexxxxxy ;3

Oh, and PS3 only, plsthx.

Well, there are three Limit Breaks I'd be looking forward to seeing in battle in a remake, that should be a sight to behold.

Cloud - Omnislash. Though it is cool in Dissidia, I want to see this on a console, on a big screen TV, and mind blowing graphics. :ryan:

Nanaki - Earth Rave. Really I just want to see my favourite furry Final Fantasy character tearing through enemies with this. xD

Nanaki - Cosmo Memory. C'mon Square Enix, remember this? Show us what you can do for the effects of this now! :D

I wonder if they'd adjust the battle system much, if it would be more like the more recent FF games, or if the characters would still just be in one place, and their ATB gauge rises until full, then that character can act. =P

heh, if they change the battle style at all, they'd probably make it more like FF:AC, characters jumping around and stuff.

I'd personally like to see Super Nova with remastered graphics. ;3 Seeing the universe just explode by one of the best canidates for president is extasy. <3

Who even cares anymore? I, for one, don't.

Constant teasing around. It's like, "Yes, sir. No, sir. Maybe, sir." To "explore" a remake and not even focus their attention on new projects? Dwelling on the past is just going to make things worse. As if that compliation hasn't had enough whoring out already! Leave the series as it is or else it will be ruined with a remake. The fans have had enough already.

High Chance on FFVII Remake?

After the director of Final Fantasy XIII expressed his interest in remaking FFVII, it looks like we have someone even higher up on the chain of command saying he'd 'explore the possibility.'
Creative types like game directors saying they'd love to do a remake of Final Fantasy VII, that's one thing. But now the CEO himself says the company will, at least, "explore the possibility" of doing so.
Yoichi Wada, the president and chief executive of Square Enix, told Siliconera that the company has heard its fans' pleadings to remake FFVII, made nearly 13 years ago for the original PlayStation.

"Right now we don't have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII," Wada said. "We're going to explore the possibility - whether or not we're going to do it, if we're going to do it, and the platform."

Previously, Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama said Final Fantasy VII was the remake he wanted to do most. "If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake."

Before that, Yoshinori Kitase, the director of Final Fantasy VII (and producer of FFXIII) pegged the likelihood of a FFVII remake to Square Enix's ability to finish such a project inside of a year. "But if any such situation came about by any remote chance, then yes, we'd do it!" Kitase said.

So who knows. Doing it inside of a year sounds nigh impossible, but it may no longer be an operative statement. Siliconera dropped this as a teaser for a more complete interview later, implying that Wada might be thinking about a PSP remake. More whenever that comes out.
Looks like they're harping on the 'needs to be a quick turn around' bit, urging the need for less resources but higher profit. The good news is that this will spell out tons of fan service in other to get that quick return, the bad news is that high-quality projects like Versus XIII and the fabled PS3 FFVII remake will be put on hold...or worse, transferred to a portable system.

Thoughts?

I wonder if people like Wada make statements like "we might do a remake", and "it's not likely that a remake will happen" just to come onto message boards like this and jerk off to the comments people make?

My philosophy about the FFVII remake: be patient and keep your expectations low.

I think that they have been working on it since that demo and they just never told us that! I have always thought there to be more than that tech demo, I think this is them just saying that we are making progress, I have a friend who worked for Square and was apart of that demo and he told me they had more than that!! Apparently they had a fight sequence and the first bombing mission, maybe he was telling the truth maybe he was lying!

hmmm I hope they dont screw up in the end...
These "statements" keep popping up lately, Wada should keep his mouth shut lol

Hm...does anyone think they might say something more on this at E3, maybe even announce it? I think it is definitely time they put an end to the speculation of will a FFVII remake happen or not, and stop tormenting their fans, it won't help the game's sales one bit if they get the fans any more PO'd about it than they already are. >.>'

This back and forth, to me, seems like a bad tactic, and isn't going to make fans more eager to buy it, just get sick of SE teasing them the whole way. >_<

not all fans are alike...don't group us all into one mass. there are some of us who find the news interesting and keep a passive eye on the topic rather than get mad. if it's going to happen...it will happen.

I've actually changed my stance on the remake. It does need to happen. Sure, I won't be buying it, but for reasons that I don't care to explain, I believe that it actually does need to happen.

And yes, I still hate FFVII. :mokken:

P-P-Plot twist.

It will happen. Because Square isn't that dumb of a company to let so much money get away. And to tease everyone like they've been doing? No. It will happen. I'd stake my life on it.

It probably will but Im doubting on PS3 or the 360. It will be on a handheld, most likely the PSP. Lower development costs and will sell a ton at least in Japan.

I hate being sick. I miss out on so much, but really? Seriously? WHY? C'mon on people wtf here? You sit here and tell us you're not going to remake it. Then you've got other people saying that'd they'd like to remake it. Then you've got others saying it'd be too difficult to remake. UGH. Can you just STOP with all the fucking FFVII shit already? Focus on finishing Versus! Do you even realize how many fans are itching for this game you've been teasing us with for how many years now? And not only that, but you've remade FFs I-IV. You had better hope like hell you remake FFV and FFVI (ESPECIALLY FFVI) before you go remaking FFVII. It's not right to skip those two games just to jump into a remake of FFVII. A lot of people want the remake, a lot of people are sick to death of FFVII and you (SE) whoring it out as much you do. Would you please just, I dunno, drop it for now, give it up and concentrate on Versus as well as other new games? :ffs:

I would agree with you, and I know the remake doesnt help, but I wish they would finish making the compilation of FFVII before they make any more FFXIII sequels. Seriously, with Dirge, they left it wide open with no resolution.
