Hold the phone. Have a press? Shut it down. Got a front page? Hold the shit out of it. Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has said, has actually said in real words, that the company is to “explore” the possibility of remaking Final Fantasy VII.

“Right now we don’t have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII,” the exec told Siliconera at the Final Fantasy XIII launch party recently.

“We’re going to explore the possibility – whether or not we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, and the platform.”

That’s right. It may not even be on a PlayStation platform, assuming it ever happens. That sound is the sound of the internet weeping, the sound of a trillion digital tears soaking a million shattered forums.

Talk of an FFVII remake has been pretty much on a joke level up to this point, with FFXIII’s top dev brass dropping “what if” teases on the matter for literally years.

Most recently, director Motomu Toriyama said it would be the game he would most like to remake.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase said in February that he’d be “really interested” in the project.

Which is fine, but Wada’s the top man. Go nuts, Square people.

:ffs:

Why?

Please just work on FF Versus and new games. FFVII was a good game but the character came from the PS1 version.

I'd rather see Chrono Cross remade before FFVII any way. I wish they would explore that option as well. :sad3:

Anyway, heeeeeeeere we go again. :monster:

If it's not on the PS3 I'll be raging!!

I've been wanting a remake for years now and now that they're "exploring" the idea of a remake that possibly may be on a platform that I don't own, if that's the case I'll go wild.

All of the talk of a remake is just getting really old, tbh. I for one don't really see a point in remaking the game. So the graphics weren't phenomenal; who cares? People loved the game anyway. Just leave it at that.

And if they are going to remake it, can they just hurry up and get it over with so people can shut the fuck up about it already? :ffs:

Hey look guys, it's THIS THREAD AGAIN. :ffs:

We're exploring it, no we're not, but wait, yes we are, nah, just shittin with you, but really, we are.

Sure, I hate FFVII, and as much as I don't want a remake, I know it's going to happen sooner or later. But this business of tying a hot dog on a string and luring the dogs to it just to pull it away business is fucking cruel.

Give the fantards a definite answer already. Here are some examples:

Yes, we're making it.
No, we're not making it.
Yes, but not for a while.

Yes, we are, maybe, but we don't know for sure, IS NOT A FUCKING GOOD ANSWER! :rage:

I'm surprised that FFVII fanboys just don't storm the building. :ffs:

So fanboys, even though I don't like your game, I do feel sorry for you guys. The old bait and switch fucking sucks. :hmph:

Although, I still think they should be working and thinking about far more important things... :hmmm:

I almost stopped caring about the remake. If it does come, put it on the PS2 or something. Maybe that will take less time and allow them to work on the games that do need to be worked on. If this Wada guy is the chief or whatever, and his word means something, then maybe I can hold out hope for a little while for the remake. Let's see the emotional turmoil this causes :mokken:

:ffs:.....why? Are they really out of ideas? Did the Final Fantasy XIII release really not go as well as they hoped? I don't know... I mean why?

Well anyways, I'm not gonna get into this with great detail as for my reasons, I've already treated this remake like it's a piece of legislation that shouldn't be passed. I like the game but I don't think it's worth the headache that they're looking into.

Actually, Wada is the LAST person you want to be listening to. He's already proven himself to be a very competent liar, and very good at making horrible decisions.

Notice: I have not read the replies above me, but I can almost guarantee I can quote what they're saying.
"This is getting so old."
"I've wanted a remake for a while now, so hurry up!"
"It has a chance of not being on PS3? OMG#$@#$("
"I don't want a remake."

...we say the same stuff in every topic. We're all so negative, even me, as I'm pointing this out. Sigh...

Anyway, my two cents:
There will be a remake, it will be on the PS3, and people will bitch and complain about it until the day it comes out. Then they will buy it.

I just wish they hurry up so SE can worry about other things. Give the FFVII fans what they want already, but don't focus too much on graphics. I doubt they will consider that last part, though. :)

+1

whining about it now won't do any good. if it's going to happen, we may as well hope for the best. seeing omnislash in HD sounds nice...

There will be a remake,
Of course there will. We all know this.

it will be on the PS3
At the rate their going, it may just be on the PS4. They've stated something about it taking 3-4 times longer to make than FFXIII. By that time, PS4 will probably be out. O_O

and people will bitch and complain about it until the day it comes out.
PLOT TWIST AHEAD! D=

Actually, this game needs to come out. Even if I don't like the game, the game has to come out. I'm actually counting on it at this point.

Bet NONE of you saw that shit coming. :wacky:

Then they will buy it.
I won't be. You should quit making those huge assumptions. -__-

I have not read the replies above me, but I can almost guarantee I can quote what they're saying.

Yep, that doesn't help your case at all, kid. :mokken:

Hmm, I am not sure where I stand.
I am sort of over them making more and more games. I think they could further perfect the games they have or at least try new things. I think going past FF15 will start to get ridiculous.
But at the same time I dont want the classics to be ruined
and I also want new stories...

UGH I am confused but I do know I am very curious about this. Can't wait to see more on it!

OMG If this does happen i like going to go nuts :)

Wow, that's pretty big news, hopefully this isn't just playing all the fans again, and is actually news of that they really are going to seriously explore remaking Final Fantasy VII.

As for the platform, I don't think it is really a question of whether it appears on a PlayStation system or not, I could see this remake being made for PSP, PS3, or if it takes long enough, it could be a video game project for the upcoming PS4.

I actually won't mind seeing a remake on the PSP, we already saw how awesome Final Fantasy VII can look with Crisis Core. *points at cutscene of the battle of Angeal, Sephiroth and Genesis* :griin:

If this happens, I'll be happy with whatever system it is on, as long as it isn't the NDS, that thing just doesn't have good enough graphical capabilities, and it would end up not looking better at all, which I think is hugely what this will be about, make a visually beautiful Final Fantasy VII.

Well, this is all just my opinion, but I would be expecting a remake of Final Fantasy VII to have very nice graphics, like the technical demo of it.

Fucksake. :ffs:

I'd love to see a FFVII remake, provided Square could actually be trusted with it's execution.

FFVII's graphics are charming because of static camera angles focused on 2D environments. Dragging it kicking and screaming into 3D environments will no doubt destroy that charm. Do we want another angle of 7th Heaven? The forgotten capital? cosmo canyon?

Not to mention that the game would be too big and cost to much for their watertight bank account. We'll probably get a 4 disc, linear piece of crap which will spur new players onto asking the question..

Is this what all the hype was about?

Leave the game alone Square. Don't drag VII through the dirt with you.

At the rate their going, it may just be on the PS4. They've stated something about it taking 3-4 times longer to make than FFXIII. By that time, PS4 will probably be out. O_O

Dude XIII took 4 years too remake. 12-16 years? :wacky: xD

Geez, this is a pretty big hint, ain't it? I got a feeling they're going to be remaking VII. It's too obvious now.

Like always, I'm still 50/50 on whether or not I want a remake. I do, but only for graphics and translation fixes. But then I think about how Nomura just LOVES contradicting the story and I end up wishing it would never happen.

Ugh, if they are remaking this brilliant game they better enhance only three things;

1. Graphics - And this is the main thing I really want a remake for. A few scenes would be so bloody brilliant if they were done in better graphics and CGI.

2. Translations - I'm tired of trying to decipher what the hell Aerith is saying. It's annoying and it's something SE should really fix.

3. Mini-games - The mini-games in VII were really fun to play, imagine more mini games and a lot more done to them. That'd be sick.

So, yea, if they only enhance those three things, I'll be happy.

There will be a remake, it will be on the PS3, and people will bitch and complain about it until the day it comes out. Then they will buy it.

And then they will continuing bitching and complaining because they "ruined" it! Well, not everyone will do this.

There are people, like me, who think that there are quite a lot of things about FFVII that could be improved. So, if they are going to remake the game, they could take the opportunity to make improvements - not just to the graphics, but to the dialogue, pacing, characterisation etc. The trouble is, a lot of fans believe the game to be almost perfect as it is, and so any other changes will be met with suspicion, or they will be branded as 'ruining' the 'masterpiece'. This leads to the inconvenient conclusion that Square Enix will have a very hard time trying to please everybody.

SE are free to do whatever they want as long as it gives them a tremendous pile of cash on a silver plate. If they have to go remake FFVII, then so be it. I personally do not want a FFVII remake as the idea of replaying it the third time with voice-acting and HD graphics does not really excite me. I would prefer they focus the most effort in Versus and the inevitable FFXV.

My only worry is that development effort on future games may be marginalized in favour of getting the huge project of a FFVII remake underway. If that is to be the sacrifice, I won't be happy. Still, I wish they'd hurry up and get FFV and FFVI remade first.
