One of those wonderful "Discover Weekly" recommendations has led me to one of my favourite discoveries for a long time! I like the cheerful tone in this song; it's just a little different!

Anamanaguchi - Prom Night
This'll probably be known to those people who go to cons and keep up with like... nerd music! I liked the 16 bit tones and stuff in this and how it translates into more modern, recent electronic music styles. Plus the singer (who doesn't get the shoutout on the Spotify version) has that charismatic type of voice to me!

Bloc Party = Ratchet
I guarantee I've linked this song multiple times - but yeaaaaaaaaaaaah I love Bloc Party. I got into the pit for this when they played it live - what an experience! While I definitely miss the old drummer, the new(or newer drummer, she's been with the band for quite a while now) is a warrior on the drums! Same with the bassist change. Especially with this song, you need drum 'n' bass to be on point!!!
But I must be weak.
If you couldn’t tell,
I couldn’t breathe.
Bring me back to life now.
Bring me back to peace.
Give me back the sun now,
Can you give it back to me?
Freaking hell, the instrumental in this track gives me massive the Cure (Pictures of You, in particular) vibes. I love it.
the sun is casting shadows an afternoon is fading
I ask, but no one knows
the answer to the question
my life is like an island where does this ocean go?
Personally? The Johnny Cash one is my preference - I connect with it more. It feels like a person regretting all of the bad in their life; accepting it as part of themselves and hoping for resolution.
The NiN version is much more... modern - feels more spiteful; like "fuck you" to the target of the song.
I like the Bon Iver version - the guitar feels a bit nicer to me. It feels a little more raw, emotional; like he's pleading for his partner to stick around.
The Birdy version is beautiful... but feels a little rushed, a little too perfect and a bit too much like a Youtube cover or a song for the end of a teen drama show (which there's nothing wrong with; just not my taste).
^
I love Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. It always reminds me of the brilliant film Logan thanks to its use in the trailer for that.

To shift the tone a little...
This was surprisingly a hit when it was played at the KupoCon after-party at Glasgow almost a year ago. Naturally I looked for it when I got home.
Every now and then YouTube wants me to listen to it again.
Six and I have developed either the greatest or the worst Spotify playlist ever.
Here are some of my favourite Emo songs to celebrate the occasion!
PANIC! At the Disco: I Write Sins, not Tragedies
We all know this song, of course! it's either a memory of your teenage angst or some of the more _edgy_ sexist lyrics make you hate it! YOU DECIDE
Hawthorne Heights - Ohio is for Lovers
Now, usually Americans tell me to stay away from Ohio at all costs... but apparently Hawthorne Heights thinks it's for lovers? Huh... who knew! "Cut my wrists and black my eyes; so I can fall asleep tonight" totally isn't edgy, nope. Not at all. Wow, fucking hell.
Three Days Grace - I Hate Everything About you
Yep. Yep. Probably one of the OG emo tracks. "I hate everything about you; why do I love you?" Maybe it's because you have crippling co-dependency?? Maybe it's because you're just clingy! Who knows! All I know is that it's totally angsty enough for when "ur finga les gluves dnt ft n-e mor!!" of course.
And them's the breaks for we designer fakes.
We need to concentrate on more then meets the eye,
Them's the breaks for we designer fakes.
But it's you I take 'cause you're the truth not I.
Bitta VAMPIRE WEEKEND to start my weekend (I'm working remotely tomorrow). I think they get this a lot but they basically sound like Trust Fund kids music - but I fuck with it! I like it!
Bombay Bicycle Club always seemed, to me, to be the band that a former emo-kid would move onto. Like, they're a little moody but refined and totally not emo! Hence, I'm a big fan of this son

The 1975 - The Sound
... Yeah, fine. This is a banger. We all know it is. They look like crackheads but fuck it - I LIKE THEM. Six happy now?!!!!
I finally understand why people wouldn't shut up about this song a few weeks back.
I thought it would be overhyped and me by perpetuating here it might help make it appear overhyped to other people too, but I rather like it all the same.
Holy shit, this is a Cloud and Tifa song, I'm convinced. He's a cloti-shipper and you can't convince me otherwise!
When love was found,
I kept my hope just like I'd hoped to,
Then sang to the sea for feelings deep blue.
Coming down,
We've had problems that we've grown through,
But I bet you dream of what you could do.
At seventeen I was alright,
Was like nothing I could feel inside,
And wishing you were here tonight,
Is like holding on.
But I still get to see your face, right?
And that's like nothing they can take, right?
So there won't be no feeling in the firelight,
Hoping this will be right,
Time to show your worth, child.
I remember when her heart broke over stubborn shit,
That's no way to be living kid,
The angel of death is ruthless.
And I'm always thinking summertime with the bikes out,
Pushing our luck getting wiped out,
Days with nothing but laughing loud.
Underneath my coat won't you tap my shoulder, hold my hand,
Nights with nothing but dark in there,
You can be my armour then.
Island smiles and cardigans,
The nights that we've been drinking in,
We're here to help you kill all of this hurt that you've been harbouring.
Confessions should be better planned,
Alone, that night, I'm surely damned,
Run away. I'll understand.
What's important is this evening I will not forget,
Purple, blue, and orange, red,
These colours of feeling, give me love, I'll put my heart in it.
I think about it all the time,
The lights went out, you were fine,
You kinda struggle not to shine.
I still love you though, I still love you though, I still love you always..
Hold me when I'm home, keep the evenings long, crack and break and part ways..
I still love you though, I still love you though, I still love you always..
Hold me when I'm home, keep the evenings long, let's not crack and break and part ways..
