The other day when driving through a wooded area, it got me thinking which kind of area I'd like to live in. All 3 of them have their pros and cons. Not to mention your life happenings at the time would dictate which area is the better choice. So I ask you all, which area would you prefer to live in, urban, suburban or rural?

At this point in my life, I'd prefer to live in a suburban neighborhood. Being close to looking into purchasing a home, and thinking about the future with nuptials and children, I think suburban is the way to go. Being that I lived most of my life in the smallest state in America, I've gotten spoiled with being 15 minutes away from anything. And even though I'd have that in an urban area, it would be much quieter and safer for my family. It's like a nice mix of some urban pros and rural pros. Having everything within a reasonable distance, but also being quite and safe. Rural areas are pretty cool too, but it would get old quickly to have to drive a half hour away to pick up a loaf of bread, even though property would be much cheaper and spacious. The urban neighborhoods barely have a yard, and in some cases don't. I'd like for my kids to be able to run around in a yard instead of a sidewalk. But, that's just my thought on it.

rural for me. obviously thatd require me being able to drive, but i like the idea of having very few people around to bother me. i imagine i'd live out in the sticks and have a job in the city, tho i'd probly get fed up with the lack of company and not being able to "just" go for a drink in town....decisions decisions :sad3:

Living in a city like aberdeen can be a bit like them all. Your never far from the city centre and youra short drive from the countryside, beach etc etc so really its hard to say in a small city like this.
Im a fan of the nightlife and going out so living in and around the centre of town is perfect for me. Im only a 20 mins bus to the high street which is ideal for my circumstances. I think id hate living in a small town or village. The idea of there being so few people and less things/pubs to go to sounds dull. Sounds like somewhere id retire, not where id live at the prime age of 21.

Rural areas would be nice and peaceful and you would be surrounded by nature. However, many people get into the "There is nothing to do here!" On the opposite, cities are loud, less friendly but there is plenty to do.

If I got to choose, I'd like to live in a suburban area, close to the city but also close to a beach.

Nah, I'm an urban girl born and raised. I have no car, so I need to rely on transit (off-hand, I can think of 5 bus routes about 5 minutes away from where I live), and having stores near by within walking distance is a major plus.

It's not like I love-love urban life. Sometimes it is pretty damn noisy and smells questionable, but it's what I'm used to. I've visited relatives that live in the suburbs, and I was bored pretty fast.

Well, I've lived in rural areas for my entire life, going to a small town or even a city is still quite overwhelming for me. Whilst I think that living in an urban or suburban area could be quite fun, I can't actually ever picture myself living anywhere other than in a rural area. I only go to urban and suburban areas to shop or to University, and later on in my life I'll be going to them to work. Living there as well would take the fun out of it.

A suburban location that offers the best of the both worlds would be my ideal choice. I already live in a suburban location that's about 6-7 miles away from Blackpool centre near the beach, yet relatively close enough to nearer towns that takes about 5 minutes to get to by bus or a car. It's also a relatively short walk away from the shops so that buying various bits of grocery and daily necessities are always close at hand.

I wouldn't mind trying out living in a rural location for a short while. There's definitely something appealing about the considerably quieter and more spacious side to rural pads, and it certainly wouldn't cost a pair of arms and legs to purchase compared to properties in urban locations. However, the distance would turn me off and though I do drive, I wouldn't want to always navigate through country roads for a while just to reach the nearest town, shops, school etc. Urban locations on the other hand are very conveniently located, but are a lot pricier in general and I would like a bit more space as well. I really don't think the idea of apartment blocks for example appeal to me at all.

I like to think of myself as a city guy, but I definitely love the feel of living out in the countryside as well. I guess the best choice would be for me to pick a suburban location in terms of home, but there's always the workaround of living in a small city. San Diego is a perfect fit for that for even though it's largely cosmopolitan, the city itself is small enough that a trip to the mountains is only about 15 minutes away from downtown with the skyscrapers and nightlife and all that pizzazz.

I'd pick rural if it wasn't for the fact they were too far away from everything.

I have to work and petrol isn't cheap and it so wouldn't be worth the drive every day to work.

Suburban is nice. I'd just like to find a nice quiet street to live on. It sucks hearing cars driving up and down every freaking minute doing skids and what not.

I absolutely hate the city. It's too crowded and noisy and far too busy. I can't stand how fast it moves.

I've only ever lived in Suburban and Rural areas and both were fine. We lived in Rural area that was pretty close to everything anyway, so that was never an issue. There was no public transport though.

I live in the suburbs now which is only a ten minute drive from where I used to live and we're close to everything. Beach, shops, city etc. But far enough away that we can have the quietness of where we are.

I'd agree if you meant people in the city are impatient, cause I damn well know I and most other Londoners are. :lew:

This pretty much covers my answer, why I'd never want to live in a rural area. Technically, I live in a suburban part of London, but even here, everything is so close. Whenever I go anywhere outside of London, I end up feeling like a right city boy, acting shocked whenever I find out that the nearest McDonalds or Starbucks is half an hour away or something. :lew: Especially considering that when I go up town, Starbucks are a 30 second walk from each other. And getting back to my earlier point, I'm too impatient, the idea of getting anywhere being trek turns me right off living in a rural area.

Id love to live in the city centre, everything is just there, readily available at all hours

Though the idea of living rural is a nice idea, i think that'd be summat reserved for a weekend away here and there, id get cabin fever living out in the sticks

Well, as I kid I lived in the suburbs. But when I was 10 I moved to the rural areas. I have to admit... I always want to live in the rural areas, but having a city 20 minutes away is something I wish for as well.

I love the idea of being next to a small city, but have the open spaces of the country side all around me. Perfect example of that is the far north/western coasts of California. It's the best of both worlds there. You get nature but also the city life.

That's my ideal living area.

Suburbia for me. I've been living in an Athenian suburb for most of my life and I really love it--but then again the fact that this suburb is in Athens does say a lot and makes it a freakin' miracle to actually love living anywhere in this insane country.

Suburban for me anyway, since it's a good midway. On one hand it's relative peace compared to downtown insanity and I'm still just a bus-hop or short drive away from conveniences like supermarket and game retailers. Plus, I get to have all the pine trees I want out here. *hugs her pine trees* I love these suckers, even with all the sap and prickly needles.

We're moving to a rural area soon. I can't wait! I've been there before and totally loved it. I've said it before, but I really hate being around people. We've lived in the middle of the big city for most of my life, and while I'll always like the bright lights, I'd rather go home to see trees and stars in the sky.

Then again maybe all that is crazy and will never happen. But! We are going rural in February, and I can't wait. I'm really hoping I can see stars in the sky.

Lol anyway yeah, I'm totally rural.

I lived in an urban area in my early childhood, then moved to suburbia later on. When I was fifteen, I moved to a rural area which has since then become suburbia. I've never gone too far from the city, except for a temporary era when I was out in Bum Fucked Egypt.
Which actually isn't bad. A lot of peace and privacy out there. The only downfall is that running to the store for some cigarettes or something is proportionate to the Epic of Gilgamesh.
