...is the 'party leader dies, game over' thing. I can put up with the sheer linearity, story that makes no sense for hours, one character control in battles, eidolons that are essentially so weak they're pointless, no explorable towns/world map, but to be 35 mins into a boss fight only for them kill the lead char, and it's 'sorry man, game over, wanna try again?' is just too much.

If Square continue to take FF in this direction then I want nothing more to do with the series. I've been a HUGE fan since 7 (I was 7 when I played it =D) but it's pretty much lost all of the FF feeling IMO.. :/

Many people did enjoy the game though. Honestly i havent even completed it. I got bored ages ago and havent played since.
Do i think the games crap? No i dont.
I dunno about you but i simply think im getting/got to the point where iv outgrown final fantasy games. They just dont have the same appeal and excitement that they did when i was a kid. Maybe its the same for you.

I tend to think its just to appeal to people whom arent ravid fans of Final Fantasy but in doing so its just alienating those who are because to me yeah the game is crap but eh it wastes the time so....

Nah man I haven't outgrown them (I'm only 19 :P), it's just that 1 thing that totally kills the game dead to me :gasp:

Meh, the leader dying = game over is the same thing in Persona 3 and 4, so I'm used to it. It's definitely an annoyance, but one could say it adds to the challenge of the game.

I honestly have been enjoying the game a whole lot. I keep reading people complaining about what they don't like, but the so-called negative points don't bother me when I'm playing. Actually, I'm more embarrassed I need to stop myself from flaming people who are calling the game shit and other crap I don't agree with xD

Feel free to flame me any time! I love a good roast ;)

But the lack of towns and npc's is a bothersome thing not to have in an rpg....I dont mind the leader dying thing so much ive played to manny games with that bit in them....Its just all the other stuff thet indeed makes it crapopy...like the super simple game play my cat could do....

Well, the gameplay is very easy to start out with, but the difficulty ramps up pretty quickly. Some of the harder battles in this game are just plain ridiculous, in my opinion.

I too wasn't big on the leader dies, game over thing either. I know FF's in their history change things up, but one thing that's constant is that the game over happens when you're party is dead, not the leader. That was really the only gripe I had with the game. I think it's a very fun game otherwise.

I had no problems with it. The game is easy enough as it is. If the party leader dies and you get control of a second party member, ppl would just switch to the salvation paradigm and voila, everyones back up to full health in a couple seconds. I don't think I would've GO'd the whole game if this were the case.
Most people find the game to be very easy to moderately challenging so I don't really think the party leader dies then GO shebang is a big deal.
And 35 minutes for a boss fight? I hope you're exaggerating or talking about the last couple mark missions at least....

Wow, there is only ONE thing in FFXIII you can't forgive? I'd have thought the directionless storyline, complete lack of main villain and straight-line maps would have been more annoying, myself.

The leader death thing was aggravating, but it added some challenge to this game that was otherwise almost completely inexistant. If it wasn't for this, I probably wouldn't have died once throughout the entire game...

I think someone already said the game is easy enough as it is, and that's exactly what it is. It could have been thrown in to up the difficulty scale at least a little. Does it really matter if you die? All you do is hit Retry and end up in the exact same place you started, no penalty. Sure, you have to start over, but a battle that long had already been going on for too long anyway. The idea is to stagger ASAP... and I highly doubt any single battle takes you 35 minutes. If they're taking you that long, your crystarium isn't developed enough to be fighting whoever you're fighting. Even the last mark mission is a cakewalk if you have the proper gear and stats.

yeah .. if the leader is dead.. its game over that the bad thing in ff13 and the eidolons is not powerful too.. ffx, ffxii is great then ffxiii right??;))

Nah - there are many more unforgivable things about FFXIII than this. I agree with a part of your argument. It does get irritating when your main character is constantly attacked in a viciously tough battle and the healing spells are too slow to save you - particularly if you've made good progress in a battle.

However, in most of the fights (which are much easier), it does make them slightly harder. It makes you pay more attention and care to your lead than in FFXII (where you immediately gain control of the next character on the list). It makes you think a little bit more - which is a big part of FFXIII's battles. No longer is it a case of over-levelling and pounding everyone in the rest of the game easily.

I hate FFXIII for various other reasons: lack of towns, a certain male character, lack of a good central villain, weak storyline points, style over substance approach, Crystarium etc.

Yeah, I play Persona also and it does indeed add to the challenge. I wasnt expecting this, so when Lightning died and it was GAME OVER, I was abit miffed. But it quickly passed and I got on with it. Its a way to let you know this isnt going to be an easy ride.

Doesnt it make you wonder? why you wasted 60 bucks or so on the game? :(
I will buy the game when its halved in price... I hope they dont screw up with Versus..
That might be the dead of FF...

I'm not fond of this either. Having a game over if the party leader dies is very annoying as it is sometimes quite easy for a group of powerful enemies to kill the party leader quite quickly if you are not careful.

Then again most of the battles are easy, and only a few strong enemies, groups of enemies all aiming on the party leader and bosses are a serious threat (to me so far anyway) to the party leader. It's annoying when one of the robots decide to unleash their turrets (forgotten the name of the move) on the lead character, as that move essentially kills whoever it aims at unless someone heals them fully while the attack is still going on, or you are lucky. If the computer decides to aim at your party leader while it does the long turret attack (and any other similar long lasting, multiple hitting attacks) then you are screwed.

Reviving people in general is quite a problem at times since phoenix downs cost 1000 gil. Where I am in the game at the moment I haven't yet came across a way of gaining gil, other than finding it on the map and selling items. You don't get gil from monsters which makes buying phoenix downs hard.

So yeah the party leader being killed and leading to a game over really sucks, but if they were to have it another way they would have to increase the difficulty a lot. The fear of losing the party leader is the only thing that makes it hard and forces you to revive all of your party members so that they can either distract the enemy, heal or help kill the enemy fast before the party leader is killed.

It is true. Since Phoenix Down's are so expensive and hard to come around, it did irritate me as well. 'Cause you can't revive someone until your medic learns the revive ability.

I wasn't too fussed over this though, I don't really prefer it to be this why but, I dealt with it. If your not careful enough, it doesn't take much for your party leader to die.

It does add to the difficulty but, i liked controling all my characters and so, when your party leader dies, you can just revive then right there and then but thats not the case it just goes to game over -__-
