Multiple Platforms The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

For Ohri's question, if you'd rather go for pure magic, you can always get the conjuration spells for bound weapons, dunno if your conjuration ability impacts their power or not :hmmm: but it's one way to stay completely magic focused.

To correct, yes you can fast travel to any major city on the map by taking a carriage and paying like 10 gold for it. :ahmed:

Anyways, I've gone with a battlemage class for this playthrough. I'm not specializing on anything and it has yet to get me into any real trouble where I can't kill anything though I'm having difficulty taking down sabre cats and trolls. I do have apprentice level skills on everything I have though. :damon:

Don't tell them about the carriages :gasp: I actually didn't know about them till I walked my ass up the mountain to Solitude. I prefer walking to each place because it makes the world seem much bigger.

Have you not been playing long? :ahmed: I already have my archery at 73 and my sneak at 59 :wacky:

Uhhh, I've played like 15 hours so far. Most of it has been spent just wandering the countryside. I like discovering places, then leaving them for later when I'm stronger. I wouldn't prefer carriages either, just thought I'd point out that blatant mistake. :hmph:

I've only seen one carriage :hmmm: I guess I'm not looking :wacky: I go to most of the ruins I discover and get lots of words for shouts  Although my friend said I have to continue the main quest to get all the words for FUS RO DAH which I really want. I've been using Whirlwind Sprint a lot because it's kind of cool

I use Whirlwind Sprint a lot to avoid all those traps that my followers keep setting off. :wacky: I even had one follower die because of a super powerful draugr. :(

So far I have 5 different shouts: Unrelenting Force, Fire, Ice, Kyne's Peace (sp?; stop animals from attacking you), and Whirlwind Sprint. Pretty good so far. :griin:

I sneak all the time so I don't set the traps off (a sneak perk ) but my companion, Lydia, stepped on a pressure plate that sent a spiked gate straight into me and scared the crap out of me :hmph:! She also tends to keep walking over them and having the spike fences continually bash her till she falls over :hmmm: I accidentally killed her multiple times as well and had to reload my save :lew:

I have... Whirlwind Sprint (two words), Unrelenting Force, Kyne's Peace, Animal Allegiance (two words), Aura Whisper, Disarm, Elemental Fury, and Ice Breath. I've only learned Whirlwind Spirit, Unrelenting Force, and Disarm, though.

I finally have it! :x3: It was due to arrive on Friday but only arrived today. Silly post. :hmph: I haven't looked at too many videos because I want the experience to be fresh. Very much looking forward to it.

I can't decide whether it would be better to use magic and arrows or become a warrior... I am leaning more towards the former. I ALWAYS play the warrior type, so magic and arrows would make a change. :)

I am going to pick it up on Saturday, because I will actually have time to play it by then. At least a week without being busy. I would have picked it up earlier, but unfortunately I have work to do. I can not wait to start though! I am going to be a mage. :ryan:

I just got the game today.

Will post further details on my character on the Who are You thread.

But yes, 1080i :ohoho:

I am thinking about buying this game...

How much is it in US currency ?

The reviews I have read have been very good. The graphics are supposedly top notch.

I have proposed in the past that the FF developers work with Bioware or Bethesda to improve FF. Usually I get ridiculed for making that suggestion.

Maybe people who play Skyrim will agree with me this time around.:megusta2:

It's 60 dollars like most games out now  And they shouldn't work together, imo. WRPG's and JRPG's shouldn't mix. Not to mention Todd Howard doesn't like JRPG's :wacky:

You and I will have to agree to disagree then.

shrugs.

If FF doesn't improve substantially in FFXIII-2 or in Verses, when we finally get it, certainly the western fans are going to want major changes.

As for Skyrim I might just wait for a used copy.Someone won't like it for whatever reason and trade it in or sell it to a used gaming store here locally. That will be my chance.

I never got to play Oblivion and Morrowwind although I do have a copy of Morrowwind.Computer problems prevented me from playing it.
The reviews seem to indicate Skyrim is way superior to those games so we'll see.

Skyrim is much better than Oblivion and on par with Morrowind in most aspects. I really like that they took out some of the dumbing down they did in Oblivion and ditched the custom classes.

i really have to disagree :wacky:

as far as character customization goes, it's really improved from where oblivion was (lol athletics and acrobatics). But in comparison to Oblivion, I feel that the game is very lacking - mainly with the amount of effort put into the design of the quest log.

In Oblivion our quest logs noted almost every important detail that was passed on to you through conversation, eavesdropping, etc. It was an invaluable source of information and was truly an asset to the game.

But with skyrim, it's just some half-assed side project or something. Most of the quests I've done are about on the same level as leveling another character to level cap in World of Warcraft for the upteenth time.

I really got off to a rough start with the menus as well, pissed me off to no end. It's not so bad now, but I hate how more than half my time in combat is spent selecting different spells and putting on different equipment.

I do not think that I could say Skyrim is better than Oblivion in good conscience, regardless of how hawt all of the characters have become

I married a woman named Ysolda roaming around the shop district in Whiterun.

i married aela :monster:

no, im not a furry :hmph:

i actually recorded my marriage, but it was really anticlimactic so I was a little disappointed.

I do wish they'd made a couple of regions more colourful like they are in Oblivion. The whole game is visually like Morrowind, with the earthy colour-scheme. When I started, I really liked that; the landscape is not only realistic, it reflects the dark times... But the more I explore, the more I desire a town or village surrounded by a more vibrant and colourful landscape, with blossom-filled trees and colourful flowers. It's a fantasy game! Incredible beauty should exist somewhere. :wacky: The orange glow in the night sky is the most striking scene I've seen thus far. :(

The Quest Log is alright. It's very basic, but it gets the point across and I haven't had too many issues figuring out what I need to do with all of the necessary markers in place. I just wish the game had been made with SD tvs in mind. My HD tv displays the text beautifully, but Chris' tv doesn't. Trying to read the small font hurts my eyes. :argh:

The menu certainly took some getting used to, but now that I can do things quickly, it doesn't distract too much from the gameplay. Oh! I like being able to look at each item, turning it around to see the various details. :) There is something slightly archaeological about it! You feel like you're using the artefacts to learn more about the people, their culture and their skills. Small details like that really add to the experience. :)

I have really appreciated the nods to old pieces of Literature. High Hrothgar draws on Beowulf (the king of Heorot is called Hrothgar). Wulfgar MAY have appeared in an Old English poem, but I remember him from Salvatore's books about the dark elf Drizzt.

The music seems to nod to various films and games too. :lew: Some pieces are VERY Lord of the Rings-like; others remind me of the music in Red Dead Redemption... those pieces feel a little out of place.

I do agree with you on the quest log. I liked Oblivion's for the same reason. The menus are a downside, because they're tailored for consoles, but so was Oblivion's menu system. Morrowind's was nicer because there was a lot less scrolling (even though you had to mouse over everything to see what it was). But I have the PC version, so as soon as they release the Creation Kit, I'll just see what other great mods come out of it :reptar: I'm not gonna let the semi shitty menu system distract from the fun of the actual game :lew:

so has anyone else done the thieves guild quest line yet? I think it's pretty awesome

you get to walk away with some pretty cool abilities and a ninja shredder costume :monster:

makes me wish i wouldnt have killed the dark brotherhood, but i didn't really like being smuggled into a shack in the middle of nowhere and being forced to kill someone at the time :wacky:

I'm on the last Thieves Guild quest right now. Not sure if I want to give up the Skeleton Key just yet :wacky: And I'm definitely not killing off the Dark Brotherhood. That was the best part of Oblivion (in my eyes), and I really want to do it again :gasp:

So uh.. I've played a bit and the game's good. I like what they've done with the skills and character development. It's not like in Morrowind where you have to plan your character ahead you can just go with the flow which is much better especially for players who aren't gonna devote too much effort into optimising stats. I've only played up to becoming a werewolf and it's pretty fun.
