Tekken vs Soul Calibur

Soul Caliber doesn't have much of a storyline. Tekken wins my heart fer sure!

There's no contest about which is the better game for me, personally. I've always loved the Tekken series, I've got every numbered game and Tekken Tag.

Soul Calibur hasn't really won me over. I have SCII and SCIV, but Tekken 5 and Tekken 6 are the better games. Tekken 6 looks like the best fighting game out at the moment too, in my opinion. The characters are better, the fighting system is much better, and I like the storyline >_>

Match up: Tekken vs. Soul Calibur. Tekken Wins! Really, I just love the gameplay and the character roster of Tekken, there are cool characters, funny characters, and just wacky characters, and I'd say Tekken has got more of an actual story for them then Soul Calibur does for their characters. XD

I like the music too, I've heard a few of the tracks from Tekken 6, I can hardly wait to get it on Christmas Day (day after tomorrow! ).

But don't get me wrong, I think Soul Calibur can be enjoyable too...I just far prefer Tekken over it, my main character is King, I did think it was pretty cool that one of the SC games had the unlockable item Jaguar Mask, nice little addition made there, still doesn't win me over though, it was just the head, no tail. >.>

I actually prefer Tekken over Soul Calibar. I've grown up with Tekken and it just stuck. The characters connect more with me than the characters of SC. =/.

The stories in Tekken are far better than SC and I think the flow of fighting is far more superb than that of SC as well. So, my vote goes to Tekken.

I guess I'm in the minority here.

I actually prefer Soul Edge/Calibur to Tekken any day. That's not to say that I don't enjoy Tekken. I'm honestly not that much into fighters and the only ones I really play are Tekken and Soul Calibur. I just much prefer the weapons fighting to fist fighting I guess. I also like the music and fighting stages better in SC.

I like the storylines and characters in both games but I just generally prefer to play SC over Tekken.

Tekken. It actually has a story and I find the stages more interesting too. I think the characters are better than Soul Calibur too.

Though Soul Calibur offers an interesting variety of (ridiculous at the most) characters for the player- such as Darth Vader- Tekken still wins my heart.

It's probably because I played Tekken longer. It has a story underneath its beat-em-up veneer and in my opinion, deeper gameplay.

Tekken does require some practice and studying of some moves- while a player can usually button bash in Soul Calibur to victory depending on the opponent.

Although the concept of bladed weapons is more interesting than unarmed combat though.

Actually, I found SC to be the superior fighting game because I can button mash any of my opponents on Tekken. Pick Eddie, and BLAM! It's all over, even with my eyes closed.

The story to SC in my opinion is better, although both stories are pretty bland and typical. Tekken doesn't have any characters that I can get attached to at all, and in my honest opinion the fighting system hasn't changed one little bit since the beginning. It's almost like the Madden of the fighting game world.

So I'd have to say SC hands down.

Well you would not want the series ti change completely, it's what makes the game. All you do is update the graphics and add some new innovative ideas and characters and there ya go. Nothing major should change in fighting games unless it's majorly flawed. =/.

As for SC being a button masher? I do not see that. I've played SC and the combos are harder to execute than in Tekken, in my opinion. I do love the idea of having weapons in SC and upgrading them and the like, but Tekken now has character customization which is a cool addition.

I just like Tekken better and the story makes more sense to me than Soul Calibur. Actually I probably wouldn't like it if Tekken didn't have such a vast selection of characters and good story. As for fighting I like Tekken for being able to have so many different styles and even if two chracters have the same style they feel different when playing with them.

^ Yeah, my main is King (got Tekken 6 yesterday btw, it's awesome! Already got the Beast Arms and Legs (using Yellow, I uncovered a treasure with Blue arms, and one with Lime Legs though, but those two colors don't go very well imo), and I can either throw punches, kicks, and throw my body at the foe as him, making his whole body a weapon P), or focus more on throwing with him (I use S T F too much. >.>).

No character is as good for throws as King, he has big chains of throw commands, and powerful individual ones (Giant Swing is fairly easy to pull off, and deals 60 or 65 damage I think).

Tekken winz handz down!!! They story is sick and all the characterz are untouchable.
I can spend hours kickin' back and playin with a couple friends. The only reason Soul Calibur gets some love from me is that you get to be Darth Vader and Yoda, & i'mma straight Star Wars geek... Haha

^ Yeah, that was pretty epic, I enjoyed playing as Darth Vader, that was pretty cool. But I prefer King anyways, he just looks awesome, and in Tekken 6, when you have Beast Arms/Body and Beast Legs equiped to him, he looks smexy.

But what is annoying is that in Scenario Campaign, the items that you pick up randomly have good boosts, and are randomly cool looking items or retarded...as things stand now for me, I have to equip a variety of items that makes King look ridiculous to be effective against enemies on Hard diffculty, and most of all, to survive many hits.

That would have to be my biggest complaint about Tekken 6 itself, I'd rather just equip Beast Body (yellow) and Beast Legs (yellow), and that's that, nothing more. But you need all those effects to get through stages successfully. >_>

Between Tekken and Soul Calibur I don't know if I actually could pick just one of them.

Both of them have a good enough storyline. Both of them have great graphics and a great roster of fighters. I think the only huge diffrence between theese two games is mainly the beginning stages for a fighting newbie.

Tekken is and I will admit very beginner friendly making button mashing work for your normal Arcade matches to unlock new characters and so forth. Hell in Tekken 6 I buttonmashed myself through Scenario Campaign easily enough. But in any fighting game it comes down to the skill of the players. A buttonmasher vs a beginner who have gotten the hang of juggling and comboing will easily win over the buttonmasher since he is easy to read. So when people talk about how easy Tekken is becouse it is possible to buttonmash, think of it as food for the skilled players.

Soul Calibur on the other hand is very hard to buttonmash meaning that a beginner to the fighting game scene will hit a wall. Even going through the arcade trying to buttonmash is hard enough as it is. Soul Calibur in my eyes has a harder learning curve than Tekken has so for the experience fighting game player it's easy enough but for the beginner it could be quite hard and frustrating.

This is only my view and to be honest I don't know if this would go too off-topic as I wanted to elaborate on why I can't pick one over another and explain my view on the beginning stages of a fighting newbie. Other than that I belive the two games don't have to huge of a diffrence.

Time for creators opinion

I personally prefer Tekken. I tried Soul Calibur and the combat felt kinda hard and stiff while Tekken moves more freely. When it comes to storyline i preffered the Tekken storyline course in every game it explains a good storyline unlike Soul Calibur where all i knew after winning the game was "There is a good and a bad sword. The main villian made the good sword. My hero/heroine entered for a random reason not concerning money. They win and a crappy cutscene comes" But thats just my opinion
So in my opinion Tekken wins but i still very much do like Soul Calibur

I'll look at it this way; I enjoyed Soul Blade and then watched the series go progressively down-hill, with 3 providing a brief improvement. I played the original Tekken and somewhat enjoyed it, and then enjoyed each version more so, with 5 and 6 being excellent ( some technical issues aside ). I've racked up about 90 hours on Tekken 6 and don't show any signs of stopping yet, Virtua Fighter's the only 3d series that competes with Tekken for me.

I only played SC once on an arcade against an experienced player and button mashed my way to victory XD (not conclusive evidence of anything, but so far my only experience). Judging a fighting game based on storyline seems silly to me. I know they include stories, but I didn't think anyone paid attention to them (I sure don't).

Soul Calibur for me. Soul Calibur IV is the only fighting game (save for the SSB series) that I have actually enjoyed. It's really accessible to beginners, which is probably why not a lot of the more hardcore fighter-game-players here don't enjoy it as much as a game like Tekken, which is geared more towards them.

I will agree that the storyline is ridiculous for SC though.
