[RP] Final Fantasy IX: Scars of Terra

Remaining behind Ricard continued his pace as he approached the bridge, again he could hear something outside of combat. Staying put on the center he kept his katana handle held firmly, looking around for a sign of movement, perhaps from an old friend.

"Why don't you show yourself and get this over with? I have things to do here and I can't be bothered waiting for you to interfere"

OOC: Tinypost, next one should be better :sad2:

Alleria Stormseeker

[OOC: With the action now, there's suddenly an influx of post! I LIKE :awesome:]

Ricard didn't need to say it at all. In the end, Alleria was planning to stick to someone - Ricard being the most convenient and most reliable. She saw how he chased after whoever was spying on them earlier. Literally jumping up onto the roof of a house with barely any effort is not something an ordinary person can do. With that fact in mind, she figured he would be able to save her if she should fall.

... Or so she hoped anyway. Following the group as they began to make their way up the trunks of Cleyra, Alleria walked behind Ricard with careful steps.

Urgh. I hate climbing. We're easily seen. We're worn down. I'm scared of heights. ARGH.

"If she is... She really needs to work on her discretion"

His words arrived just as her thought concluded, startling her. He cleared his throat, as if he heard her thoughts, and continued. Alleria didn't know what to make of this, but moving along, she could barely suppress her amusement and curiosity.

The trek was pretty much uneventful until...

"Looks like the fight started. We need to speed up. Rob, care to hurry things up? I wanna avoid the fighting if it's alright with you?"

She wasn't really paying attention, but she could hear the sounds of metal clashing against metal. Elsewhere, the fight had started, and certainly seems fierce.

"Hate to say it, but this -is- the shortcut, unless you can all jump like a Dragon Knight. Just gotta pump your legs harder!"

She immediately thought of Ricard, and the mental imagery of how he leaped up onto the roof. It wasn't Dragon-Knight-height, but it was at least half of that. Still, it didn't change the fact they all could not jump as high as the Dragon Knights did, so she followed as they ran, keeping her blade at her side.

Following with the group was easy, but stopping wasn't. Suddenly, Ricard slows to a halt, almost causing Alleria to knock into him. She stopped rather haphazardly, and was about to chide him when he spoke.

"Why don't you show yourself and get this over with? I have things to do here and I can't be bothered waiting for you to interfere"

As a soldier, she really had a lot to brush up on. Her hearing would be the first she goes to work on. It was twice in a row now, with her missing out the sounds of battle, and now, someone spying on them?

She tried to listen for the sound Ricard detected, but she failed. Looking over to the group, she realized they had just went on ahead, and it was starting to make her feel distressed. She wanted to follow the group, but she cannot just leave Ricard alone.

"Come on, we should go."

Honestly, she wasn't expecting this to work. Ricard was already glancing around the environment, expecting something to appear. She did the same, except it was to check on the main group's progress. They were someplace ahead, and well out of sight for now. It looked like there was a straight path leading directly to them, but she won't be able to find out for now.

She had to stay with Ricard and watch his back until they were back with the group. A general rule of thumb in missions was to never travel alone -- the barest minimum ought to be in pairs (which in itself is somewhat dangerous). Sighing internally, she held her blade in ready position as she stood behind Ricard, glancing around for something out of place.

"Damn, please clear this up fast."

"Why don't you show yourself and get this over with? I have things to do here and I can't be bothered waiting for you to interfere"

Twinsword heard the Pluto Knight shout out. It was clear, he was either paranoid, or he had a knack for exposing her no matter how hard she tried. The Lord-General clapped as she walked out of the cave, right in front of the party. To be fair, it was foolish, for she was essentially all but alone in the trunk of the tree, no support or reinforcements. Her swords were already drawn, ready for battle.

"You never change Ricard." Twinsword said, a sly smile on her face. "Still..." Twinsword got into a fighting stance, her right foot forward and her right hand holding her blade directly at the group, whilst her off-hand sword was positioned above her head, also pointing at her enemies. "...it's hard to believe that you came all this way."

"We don't have time for this, just let us pass and no harm will come to you." Anne said to the Lord-General.

Lan Ester

"...it's hard to believe that you came all this way."

Lan sighed as Twin Swords stood in their way.

"We don't have time for this, just let us pass and no harm will come to you."

"Nice try on that Anne. She's an enemy here in Clerya. Never assume they will back down. Let's just cut her down and hurry on. If anything, we rid Olivert of one general." Lan muttered as he moved his hand a bit while looking at Twin Sword.

"But something still bothers me. If you wanted to oppose us, why tell us Samuel's location and the path to his residence? It doesn't make sense. It's almost like you want Olivert to lose." Lan pointed out while flexing his claws.

"Hard to believe?" Ricard kept his katana shouldered as he took a few steps forward "you should know by now you can't possibly win, why not save me the trouble and run away now?"

Ricard then grabbed the handle of the Katana and swung it upwards, launching the sheath into the air, catching it and holding it as an extra guard with the Katana pointed forwards.

"Alleria, I assume you'd want as little movement as possible on this bridge, leave it to me... And i'd stay off the bridge, just in case" between the two of them, Ricard had a clear advantage in rough terrain, he even doubted Twin Sword's experience could match his, even though they trained together.

Bringing his Katana handle to eye level he let the blade shine brightly as he performed a gentle circular slash through the air, before cutting through the middle, watching the dual disk launch itself at Twin Sword. [Moon Slash]

Robert Crescent
Sir Fratley

"Ricard, she's your former friend, I leave her to you. Alleria, you remain with him, just in case. Catch up to us when you can." Robert said just before they began their battle. He looked to the others. "Let's get going. This bridge isn't the only way there." Robert said. Using his powerful legs, he jumped up onto the rooftop to check the area for any enemies along the side path. Once he saw that it was clear, he'd hop back down to the path on the side route.

It would take about a few minutes at a hard run for Robert to reach the renovated church at the top of the Cleyra Settlement. Once there, he'd lay low and scan the area to see what kind of outside defenses they had around the house before planning his next move.

*************

Sir Fratley stood before an army much, much larger than the one Freya had taken with her to Cleyra. Fratley anticipated that Oielvert would attack them next; the Cleyran rescue mission was only going to speed things up.

"Listen up! Once Freya's group returns from Cleyra, Burmecia will remain on high alert. Dragon Riders, I want you at the ready. Once we see Oielvert's army approach, you are going to be the first to strike. Fly high up over the mist until you are behind their ground forces, then swoop down and blast them from behind before retreating back to the skies. If they have any airships, you are to engage them first and foremost."

Fratley looked over to another company. "Mages, you will split off into three groups. One group will man the mist cannons to launch Blizzaga spells at the enemies. This is not only just to damage their forces, but the ice will make the terrain leading to Burmecia all the more difficult for them, slowing down their approach. The second group will go into the royal escape passage. While I highly doubt they know about it, I'm not taking any chances. You will divide up into groups of ten and place yourselves in the open spaces in the corridor, with one group behind the doors at the entrance. Should that entrance open, greet whoever opens with with a barrage of Flare, and then use Meteor to pound away at any forces behind them. The Meteor spells will give you enough time to retreat to the first open space and you will then activate the hallway corridor defense system. The third group of mages will protect Vivius. Vivius is to summon our Eidolon at the very moment he sees the Oielvert army bring out theirs." Fratley commanded before looking to yet another comany.

"Dragon Knights and foot soldiers, you will divide up into waves of three. The first wave will be manning the front gates. Once Freya's company returns and all Cleyran refugees are safely inside, the gates will be closed shut. If they break through the gates, we're going to give them a very warm Burmecian beat-down welcome. Should they somehow manage to have survived all of that, the second wave will mop up what's left. Wave three remains inside the castle. Protect the king and queen at any and all costs." Fratley ordered before looking to the last group.

"Archers, you are to man the walls. Should their armies get past the dragon riders and cannon launched spells, I want you all to turn the skies black with your arrows and rain death down upon them. Rogues, I want you to remain hidden within the city. Any Oeilvert forces or operatives you come across, silence them permanently. Clerics, you will divide yourselves evenly to every group in order to heal the wounded." Fratley spoke before then addressing the full military.

"You have your orders For now, aid the refugees and lead them to the encampment area as they come. Clerics, treat the wounded and sick as they come. Everyone to your stations. Once Freya returns, the horn will be sounded. I want the Burmecian army at the ready until the enemy comes. Dismissed!" Fratley spoke before walking off of the podium. He would then be approached by a Burmecian knight and a non-Burmecian, holding a mirror. He listened, learning about the importance of the mirror before recieving it. "Well then, I'm certain the king will want to hear of this immediately. Thank you." he spoke before he then left for the palace.

Inside the palace, he would approach King Puck and his daughter Lilly. "Your majesty, I bring urgent news. It seems this, and the three other mirrors like it are Oeilvert's objective. According to the report, Freya believes that they intend to use the four mirrors to open the path between Gaia and Terra. Should we keep it here, or would it be wiser to send the mirror to Alexandria or Lindblum along with our update report?" Fratley asked.

*************

Despite the set-back, the invasion continued to proceed with a good deal of success. No alarm had been sounded, and the majority of the Oielvert armies were still unaware, with only the trap groups having entered combat, and they were silenced after a somewhat lengthy battle. There were few Burmecian losses, and by this time, almost half of Cleyra had been evacuated (45%). The troops continued with their methods, only now keeping eyes and ears peeled for more hidden troops.

Alleria Stormseeker

Nodding to Robert, she looked back at Ricard and the Oeilvert General. Alleria still did not have any idea about their relationship. While she feared the prospects of some kind of reconciliation, there was little time for such thoughts. She had to trust her partner now, or die either way.

"Alleria, I assume you'd want as little movement as possible on this bridge, leave it to me... And i'd stay off the bridge, just in case"

"D-don't un-un-underestimate me!"

Admittedly, stammering her response wasn't a good way to retort. Tearing her eyes away from the view of the far-off bottom, she focused on Twinsword. This would be one of the rarer times she fight an enemy that she knows nothing about.

Feeling her pumping adrenaline, she gripped her blade tightly as Ricard launched a projectile of energy towards the enemy. Although she was keen to join this battle, she decided to hold back, looking for enemy guards to fight off.

Indeed, there was a handful -- not a lot, but enough to cause trouble if they gather -- which Alleria promptly charged at.

"Do not disturb."

Meeting her blade with the guard's, she executed a quick counter-clockwise spin to slash into his neck. In one fluid motion, she leaped over to the next guard, ripping open his chest with a dual-handed slash. Two guards down, and two more shows up.

With the battle between Ricard and Twinsword progressing behind her, she rushes for the two guards.

Lan Ester

Following Robert at a hard run, Lan managed to reach the church as he saw Rob scanning the area. Doing the same thing, Lan kept out of sight as he looked on the area. The church was a sight to see for Lan, even though it was not the best time to admire it's architecture. It was a grand testament to Clerya's will to survive and reconstruction.

"How are we going to get in without being noticed." Lan whispered to the shadow covered form of Robert.

The Twinsword

"Ricard, she's your former friend, I leave her to you. Alleria, you remain with him, just in case. Catch up to us when you can."

"Good, the odds are better off for me." The Twinsword said as she ran forward towards Ricard's attack, jumping in between the two circular waves. Although it seemed she narrowly dodged the attack, she purposely move her hand around the vicinity of the attack, leaving a small cut on the back of her hand. Undanunted, she continued the attack, landing on her hands and using her leverage and momentum to complete her flip, and moving in to land on top of Ricard. Twinsword came down with a downward swing with her right blade, and once she landed she launched a , horizontal swing for the legs with her left and followed by an uppercut swing with her right blade again.

----
Annelise Steiner

"Let's get going. This bridge isn't the only way there."

Annelise looked back as Ricard engaged Twinsword in battle, before moving to follow Robert down the side path. The path was a little longer, taking her around the tree until they found a set of steps that led the group to the Cleyra settlement. She remained silent in the matter, following the Burmecian all the way to the Church at the top of the settlement. Despite its renovations, the building looked unchanged from the original design, which meant that it would be easier to find the Stadtholder.

"How are we going to get in without being noticed."

Anne heard Lan say this as she looked towardss the church. It looked to have two guards in the front, but who knows how many guards have at east one of them in their view.

Seeing Twin Sword cover the ground between them Ricard narrowly dodged back to avoid the first attack, vaulting from the spring in the bridge to leap over Twin Sword before turning and lunging at her with a diagonal slash.

Dodge or hit, with Twin Sword in range he grabbed her left arm and pushed her down to the bridge before moving his Katana to her throat and placing his foot on her right wrist.

"Any last words?"

The blood on her left hand began to pool on the ground of the bridge, enough for her to call forth a creature even Ricard would probably not be able to counter so easily. As she laid there, a blade on her throat, Ricard said, "Any last words?"

"Heh, just...a few." A circular seal began forming around Twinsword's body as she began to bring an Elemental to the surface. "Sorry, but this fight's not over yet." The force of the glow and its brightness would've been able to blind him, and allow him to come off. Once Ricard did, Twinsword, rolled backwards, landing back on her feet, with both blades in hand.

The circle, began forming a seal and a series of ice crystals began emerging from within the seal. The crystals began forming together as the light around the seal began condensing itself into a light directly at the center.

"Ricard, meet my Ice Spirit. Ice Spirit, Ricard. I'm sure we're gonna get along just fine!" The spirit took to the air as the crystals began spinning together, using its magical energies, the spirit formed a near inpenetrable ice wall along both entrances and exits around the bridge vicinity. Any guards that are already past the wall or manages to get past the wall would still have to deal with Alleria, but Twinsword preferred to take her down herself.

"So, you want to continue? I'm having enough fun as it is!"
Twinsword smiled as she taunted Ricard, tried to goad him to take the offensive.

"heh, yet again you do little to surpass my expectations" stepping back from the Ice Spirit he walked backwards along the bridge till he reached solid ground, standing closer to Alleria.

"You good to go still? You'll have to stick to the bridge here" Ricard then approached the bridge again, standing on the first plank as he watched the Ice Spirit, awaiting it's first action. Odds are his physical attacks would be mostly ineffective, so he had to assess it's strength before attacking.

"Only way I can see how to do this is, rather than not being noticed, we make sure we aren't noticed long enough for them to do anything. Namely, kill them fast before they can fight back or sound an alarm. I'll take the guy on the right, Annelise, you take the one on the left. I'll go to the roof afterwords and see if I can spy through the stain glass portions of the roof and see what the situation inside is. If you hear me break the glass, feel free to rush in." Robert spoke before waiting a few moments.

Once the guards were looking away from the path, Robert lunged forward and swung his lance at full force, decapitating one of the guards just as the guard was about to draw his blade. He left the other one for Annelise to deal with. He would then jump for the stone section of the church roof to take a look down and scope out the situation.

Lan Ester

Once Rob took out the first guard, Lan ran behind him towards the door. He left the guard on the left to Anne, hoping that she can take him down quickly. Once Lan opened the door slightly, entered, and closed the door quietly, Lan looked around and saw that the room was empty. Quietly walking towards the hallway of the inner church, Lan saw a Cleryian in the inner room. Slowly walking into the room with his hood up, Lan made his presence known to the Cleryian.

"Are you Samuel of Clerya?" Lan asked quietly as he kept at the ready in case the person before him is not the man while looking around the area in case there were enemies he did not see.

If you hear me break the glass, feel free to rush in."

Annelise nodded then drew her sword. Timing her movements with Robert, Anne lunged ahead, moving towards the Oeilvert guard on the left. Using both hands to Drive her full force into her longsword, Anne swung her blade horizontally, cutting the guard's head clean off his body, the head rolled into an alleyway, while the body and tail slumped to the ground, leaking blood.

As Robert jumped up into the house, she saw Lan walk into the door. Anne took position on the side of the house, avoiding being seen by the Oeilvert occupation force.

----
Stadtholder Samuel and The Magic Knight

"Are you Samuel of Clerya?"

The Cleyran looked up from the chair at the center. He would've moved his arms had he not been bound to his chair, but that couldn't be helped.

Lookng up at the hooded figure, Samuel said, "Yes."

While Lan had yet to respond, Magic Knight hid behind the wall, hidden in the darkness, away from sight. Only his golden eyes could be seen if watched over carefully.

Lan Ester

Lan nodded as he pulled down the hood on his robe.

"I'm your way out. I've been asked by some powerful people for your safe rescue. Hold still." Lan muttered as he gone behind the chair and cut the rope binding the man with his claw. After that, Lan quickly took off his green robe and forced it into Samuel's hands.

"Put it on and let's go. We have to get out of here before anyone else knows what's going on. My name is Lan Ester. The forth Angel of Death. Grab on to my tail and don't let go." Lan muttered as he took his position in front of Samuel while his tail waved in front of Samuel's face. After Samuel would grab his tail, Lan started walking out of the room slowly with his claw weapon out front in a defensive position, ready to defend himself and Samuel if something where to happen.

"What is that fool doing? I said not to go in until they heard me break in or come back to tell them it's safe." Robert muttered under his breath as he saw Lan enter in and heard him call out. Still, he was in a position where he could act if a trap ended up being sprung. He kept his eyes focused. If Lan left safely with Samuel, then they could be on their way. But Robert suspected a trap, considering Ricard's friend's appearance and interference. He'd wait until the trap was sprung before he himself sprung into action. He also kept his ears at the alert for any noise around him. He wouldn't allow himself to be caught off-guard.

"I'm your way out. I've been asked by some powerful people for your safe rescue. Hold still.""I'm your way out. I've been asked by some powerful people for your safe rescue. Hold still."

Samuel held still as his binds were cut by the boy, before being given his robe. "W-Who are you?"

"Put it on and let's go. We have to get out of here before anyone else knows what's going on. My name is Lan Ester. The forth Angel of Death. Grab on to my tail and don't let go."

"Angel of Death? He's a Genome?" Samuel thought as he grabbed on to the boy's tail as the pair were being escorted out of the house and safely out of enemy hands.

Suddenly, without warning, a bolt of electricity shot out, aiming towards Lan at high speed, intending to knock him down.

"Hmph, fool." The Magic Knight said as he looked at Lan, then at Samuel. "There is no escape for you, Samuel. So sit down and stay put while I deal with this idiot Genome here."

Samuel stepped back as the Knight drew his sword, the warrior's off hand glowing in the darkness of night. "So, trying to be the big hero huh? You stupid, pathetic bastards don't know what you get yourselves into..."
