[RP] Final Fantasy IX: Scars of Terra

Freya Crescent

"I'm on my way to Burmecia. Thought you'd be there. So the better question is, why are you not there?"

"I'm on my way to Cleyra with a portion of the Burmecian Army to evacuate the citizens of Cleyra and rescue the Stadtholder. While we don't know what Oeilvert has planned, we know they might hold the lives of the citizens hostage to get what they want, or the life of the Stadtholder. Only once they're out of danger can we then proceed with the backing of Garnet and Cid to drive them out." Freya explained. Despite their checkered friendship, she knew she could trust him.

"Now a question for you. Why are you coming from Cleyra and why were you looking for me? As much as I'd like you to actually come and visit, I have a hunch it's not a cordial visit just to check in and see how I'm doing." Freya asked. She wasn't accusing him of anything, nor would her tone imply anything of the sort, but considering he had practically fallen off the face of the planet without so much as a Mognet letter, something had to be going on if he was here. "If you'd care to join me, we can talk on the way to my company over there." she replied, pointing her thumb at the moving caravan of stealth-black dressed forces and carriages. She'd wait for him to respond before she would start riding her way back to her marching army at a pace Amarant could easily keep up with.

Listening to the two of them Talk,Aaron Scratches his head debating what to do next,he finally decides to speak to the Bermecian.

Aaron:I Don't know what's going on here at the moment,I was only concerned with finding Amarant...but now that I know what he look's like I can always Re-find him easy..That Aside I'd Like to help you out,If you don't mind I am a good Swordsman and was a Mercenary.

Besides that I might be able to prove my worth to Lady Garnet if I help you out too..

((OOC:Short Post but staying in the conversation!))

"Very well, I suppose we'd better get going before I face another lecture from a certain someone..."

"Oh, so it's good when you give lectures, and yet you don't like it when people lecture you?" Anne said, pointing out the irony as they got into the carriage and headed off towards the path to the Cleyra secret trunk.

As they rode towards their destination, Anne looked out the window, thinking about what they sought to accomplish, why they were here, but she paid some attention to what Ricard had to say next, and as they inched closer to Cleyra, it would be clear on how to go about it.

As Ricard mentioned that woman again, she thought to herself, "Just why was she acting that way towards Ricard?"

"Now a question for you. Why are you coming from Cleyra and why were you looking for me? As much as I'd like you to actually come and visit, I have a hunch it's not a cordial visit just to check in and see how I'm doing."

"I wasn't looking for you, specifically, as much as I was looking for all of you." Amarant gave Freya a meaningful look, putting emphasis on the word 'all.' "The reason I was coming to find you was because I know that Oeilvert is looking for four relics scattered throughout Gaia. That's the reason they're in Cleyra. They believed Cleyra was holding one of the relics. They were right. Although I'm not sure if the Cleyrans knew they had it. Anyway, after some help from him-" Amarant motioned towards Aaron. "I managed to find the relic. You might recognize it."

Reaching behind him, Amarant produced the relic. It was one of the four Mirrors Amarant, Freya, and the others had found in Ipsen's Castle all those years ago. The four Mirrors that had been part of the puzzle they solved in getting to Terra.

"I'm guessing they're looking for the other three as well. As to why Oeilvert's so interested in them... your guess is as good as mine."

"Besides that I might be able to prove my worth to Lady Garnet if I help you out too.."

Amarant nodded slowly. "I think we're going to need all the help we can get."

Freya Crescent

Freya shook her head a bit when she saw the artifact. "It's like history is trying to repeat itself. There's only one thing they could use those mirrors for. They must be trying to open the link between Terra and Gaia. But why would they do that? Kuja annihilated Terra, you and I were there when it happened. We need to get that mirror to King Puck right away. It will be safe there." Freya spoke.

She then looked to Garnet's new recruit. She knew by now that Amarant wanted nothing to do with babysitting, no matter how skilled the recruit was. However, this would be a very important mission. "If you wish to prove yourself to Queen Garnet and King Zidane, then I have a mission for you. Amarant, would you give that mirror to your companion there? If not, you could accompany him on the way to Burmecia and hold onto the mirror yourself. If you do head to Burmecia with him, I'd suggest letting him do the fighting in order to prove his abilities." Freya asked.

"The mission is that you, along with three of my soldiers here for added protection, or with Amarant if he goes with you, will deliver that mirror to either King Puck himself or to my husband General Fratley. It is of great importance that that mirror does not leave the hands of the carrier unless it passes to the hands of King Puck or General Fratley. Afterwards, I want you to send a message through Mognet to Queen Garnet and Regent Cid to inform them of this new information concerning the mirrors." Freya spoke to the young knight.

She then looked back to Amarant. "Amarant, you can come with me if you would like, even though you just came from Cleyra. I know you like to do your own thing, but I would appreciate your help." Freya said in a calm and respectable demeanor.

The Twinsword and the Magic Knight

The Twinsword was looking out towards the outer city surrounding the tree and the deserts beyond it. She had recently sent out the info via Moogle to Lord Cyril, who had returned to Oeilvert. This left her with one other Lord General, while a third is set to arrive in the early morning to lead the attack against Burmecia.

"What are you doing?" A male voice said from behind. The man had light blue hair that stood up a bit. His piercing golden eyes and brown long jacket made it seem like he was a noble of some sort.

"I'm just standing around, why?" The Twinsword responded.

The Knight put a scowl on his face. "Have you given His Majesty your report?"

"Yes, he is bringing The Pirate over to lead the assault."

"Wonderful..." Knight muttered sarcastically when he heard the news. "Hmph, you still insistent on bringing him over to our army?"

Twinsword turned around and looked at her colleague. "You have a problem with that?"

"Yeah, you're just being stupid. What's the point of making the enemy defect to your side?"

The Knight looked away from Twinsword and crossed his arms. The Twinsword clenched her hand into a fist, trying not to punch him in anger. The Knight continued "What are you willing to sacrifice to help your friend, huh? The lives of a few soldiers, your own life, or maybe even his own? Don't be so naive, there isn't a damn thing worth fighting for. The sooner you learn that, the less pain you feel when everything you care for is taken away." After that last sentence, The Knight walked away. Twinsword looked away, muttering to herself, "You're wrong, I have something worth fighting for..."

"Amarant, you can come with me if you would like, even though you just came from Cleyra. I know you like to do your own thing, but I would appreciate your help."

Amarant handed the mirror over to Aaron. "All yours, pal. I'm sure you'll prove yourself worthy of running errands." Turning to Freya, he addressed her. "I wouldn't mind going back to Cleyra. I've got a little unfinished business to take care of there."

"All yours, pal. I'm sure you'll prove yourself worthy of running errands."

Aaron: Fine..

Aaron Take's the Antique Mirror and wrap's it in a Cloth to keep it from getting damaged after which He looks back at the Bermecian..

Aaron: So..First Go to Bermecia,Find King Puck or General Fratley,Give them the Mirror, and Find a Moogle to Deliver a Mognet Message to Queen Garnet and Regent Cid of Lindblum Correct...?I think I can handle that..

As for your 3 Soldier's I don't think it would be wise for them to accompany me,If needed I can Outrun someone who tries to steal this..Besides I'm pretty fast on foot It would be quicker to move on my own,But If you insist on lending them I wont object.

Aaron wait's for Freya's Responce on this small Recap of his mission

Robert Crescent

Freya shook her head to the young man and motioned for three of her chocobo-mounted dragon knights to leave the group to escort him. "Not taking that chance. Ride on with one of these three knights. If something happens, these chocobos are a lot faster than you. And who knows, the enemy might be mounting a chocobo, or even a dragon." she replied to the boy. She then turned to Amarant and nodded, giving a smile. "Thanks."

Theme: The Mission Begins

The army finally arrived at the mountainside cave east of Cleyra. Before the building of a newer tunnel back when the sandstorm still existed, this tunnel was the way Cleyran traders used to export their goods. But ever since the antlion made its home there, a new tunnel was made to avoid it and still allow access. Even though the antlion made a new home for itself closer to the city, no one used the passage and very, very few ever remembered it.

Freya dismounted and looked at her halted army. Robert exited the carriage when he felt the movement stop, and thus went to go stand before his mother, along with the other squad commanders. "Squad A, you will remain here with the carriages. As each carriage is filled up, to will assign four troops to escort each carriage to Burmecia. Squad B and C, you will line the length of the hall to help guide the citizens to the carriages outside and fight off any Oeilvert pursuers.Squad D, you will remain with me at the inside of the trunk to deal with any pursuers. If the antlion does show itself, I will handle it. Squads E-g, you will take to the rooftops, archers snipe any patroling guards you find, Dragon Knights, jump down and wisk the corpses away to hide them. Also be on the look-out for possible traps. The rest of you will begin going to the houses and escorting the citizens to the trunk, where we will send them through the tunnel and to the carriages." she spoke. Once the squad commanders left, she then turned her attention to Robert.

"Robert, you know what you need to do. You and your friends must go and rescue the Stadtholder Samuel. I know you'll do fine. You're my son, after all. Now, get your friends and let's get this mission underway." she spoke before she then turned to Amarant.

"You said you had some unfinished business here. I think you'll find this mission will give you a good enough cover to accomplish it. I would ask that after you do, keep an eye out on my son. I know how skilled he is, but I'd prefer that no one takes him by surprise, considering he's expressed a concern that there may be a trap lying in wait." Freya requested.

*************

The troops moved quietly and stealthfully through the night. They lined up throughout the tunnels and into the trunk. As soon as the signal to begin went up, which was nothing more than an hourly marking of time that was common during the nighttime, the black-outfitted Burmecians began sweeping through the streets of Cleyra. As one guardsman waltzed down the street, an arrow from an archer pierced through his neck. A dragon knight bounced down and swept him off into the alleyway. In the streets, several armed, black-dressed Burmecian foot soldiers went to multiple houses, knocking once. As the families opened the door, they were quickly rushed towards the trunk. Waves of archers and dragon knights swept over the rooftops, clearing the areas of guards, followed behind on the ground by the foot soldiers.

Robert headed out of the trunk and looked back to his companions. "Let's do this quick. Samuel should be up at the remodeled church-home at the top of Cleyra. Oh, and whatever you do, don't look down." Robert said, jesting lightly about the last comment. Once everyone was ready, he would begin moving up along the path leading to the top of Cleyra.

Lan Ester

Soon enough, Lan felt the carriage stop as he got out. Lan smiled as he put on his claws. "Well, let's get this done quickly. I wanna avoid the guards here if I can." Lan muttered as his green robe fluttered in the slight breeze. Making sure that his claws are fixed on his hand, Lan looked around before setting his sights on Clerya.

"Come on guys. Let's get a move on it." Lan said with a smile that said 'nothing big is going to happen.'

Alleria Stormseeker

Alleria chuckled at Robert's jest. "Not funny," she muttered, immediately feeling dizzy at the notion of staring down from the upper parts of Cleyra. While she was not phobic about heights, she had to admit she still had the chills about looking down from a high position.

Quietly drawing her broadsword, she held it casually in one hand as she got off the carriage.

"I guess I'm ready when you guys are."

Placing her other hand on the hilt, she held it in a ready stance as she prepared to start the mission. This is officially her first mission. Up to this point, all she had ever faced was some simple raids on some random monster lair. Some presented a challenge, while others didn't, but none could compare to this current mission in terms of importance.

Her face was that of determination, and to anyone, it would seem like she was facing this for her umpteenth time. Yet inside, it was a chaotic mix of excitement and anxiety.

As they reached their destination, Ricard departed from the Carriage, listening to Robert, Ricard let out a short laugh, as a seasoned traveller, he had seen his share of heights and wasn't bothered by them nowadays.

"Not funny,"

Hearing Alleria's comment, Ricard walked over to her, talking in a somewhat hushed tone so the others didn't hear "If heights bother you, just stick close. We are a team after all, I doubt you're the only one"

Ricard then walked past her, not wanting to bother her with a reply as he lifted his sheathed katana onto his shoulder and looked upward at the tree "This'll be quite the climb, can't help thinking something bad's going to happen" his mind flashed back to Twin Sword's recent encounter, something didn't sit right with him about it. It would probably be better to free up room between himself and the group in case she tried to ambush him.

Taking a step onto the Cleyran tree he had the strange feeling he was being watched

if I see her here, i'll have to seperate from the group, if nothing else i'll be able to keep them busy while the rest get their mission carried out, and if I lose it's just one body count rather than a unit wipe out

Unaware of how lost in thought he was he turned back to everyone "Are we moving or what? These people won't save themselves"

Outskirts of Burmecia

Dancing in the rain were distant silhouettes of people. Accompanying them a wagon, and what looked to be strong, battle-ready Chocobos. The operation was about to begin, and he wasn't there.

“Shit, there's no time to waste.”

Cleyran Desert

The scenery had changed from the macabre of the rains to an increasing warmth, revealing a beautiful sky complete with a sea of stars. Towering above all else though, was a magnificent tree; as regal as it is tall. It's ornate branches, powerful trunk, and wonderfully lush canopy were a sight to behold. It was a shame that such violence would occur here today.

“I need to prove myself on this mission, not only for the people but for myself as well.”

Noah's eyes revealed a determined fire, confidence brimming over into his very being.

“I know the nobles look down on me, as a mere commoner. Between Robert and Lady Annelise, they are equally praised based on their lineage; leaving peasants to a life of obscurity. Now's the time to show them different, I'll be just as good as they are. They'll see.”

Coming closer and closer to the rendezvous site revealed the rest of the faces. Gallant Dragon Knights armed at the ready on the Cleyran houses and architectural structures, such a picture fitted them like no other. Also there were none other than Lady Freya, Sir Frately, and an unfamiliar face, armed at the ready. Looking into his rucksack, he opted not to use his chain-mail and would rather stay in his normal clothing.

“It's a bit too gaudy and unwieldy for such a delicate operation...”

Finally catching up to the rear, Noah walked towards Lady Freya, but not before catching the attention of a weary Chocobo. It's pure black feathers were darker than the night itself, with a powerful glare that commanded respect.

“Excuse me, Lady Freya if I may beseech your audience for a moment's time. I'm an Alexandrian knight who has traveled to aid the rest of the troop in this endeavor.”

Reaching into his sack, he pulled out a longsword in its sheath, tied around it was a flag bearing the insignia of Alexandria, proof of one's allegiance to his country. Awaiting a response, Noah fitted his longsword into his belt, to the left side. His short-sword on the right.

”I'll become someone worthy of their acceptance. I swear it.”

OOC: Ichigo, you might wanna edit your post, I don't think Noah knows about the mission at all.

IC:
Annelise Steiner

Annelise followed the group out of the wagon and into the trunk. The fact that there were under much of the tree roots themselves made it easier to infiltrate and find their way into the Cleyra Settlement at the top of the tree.

"Let's do this quick. Samuel should be up at the remodeled church-home at the top of Cleyra. Oh, and whatever you do, don't look down."

"Not funny,"

Annelise looked at Robert, a scowl on her face, Alleria was right though, even though Anne was not afraid of heights, it does seem nerveracking being at a height.

"Come on guys. Let's get a move on it."

"I agree, let us head up." Anne said following Robert up the trunk. The traps that used to be in Cleyra when the sandstorm was up was gone completely, there was still residual sand, and even glass from when Odin destroyed the tree seventeen years ago, it would be a bit of a treacherous climb, but one that must be achieved if to complete their mission.

----
The Twinsword

The Twinsword knew that there would be people coming to rescue the Stadtholder, despite the Magic Knights complaints, and the fact that he would keep watch over the Cleyran leader anyway.

As she began heading down the trunk. Twinsword heard familiar voices coming up the tree. "So they came. I'm gonna need to get Ricard alone for just a bit. I'm so gonna prove Knight wrong."

Twinsword began coming down towards the tree, heading directly towards a sturdy, refurbished bridge. Knowing that this route is the only one up, all she needed to do now was wait for them to come.

((OOC:Ending my post for now till I get a answer from Noble))

Walking up the starting trunk, Ricard took a regular pace as he walked through the first gateway inside the Cleyran tree, noticing the lack of it's former traps he continued his pace inside, though the lack of traps themselves were of some concern, what bothered him more was the lack of monsters.

"Looks like I was right to worry, we're certainly not alone down here"

Ricard gripped his katana's handle tightly, ready for an ambush as he reached the chain leading further inside Cleyra.

Keeping his ears sharp he wondered if Twin Sword was among his 'watchers', considering their previous encounters he wouldn't put it past her to appear. As he pondered this he thought back to his time with the Nomads, who'd think he'd end up in something like this at the time?

Snapping back to reality he turned around to look at Annelise, it was amusing how if not for her he probably wouldn't have bothered, though now he didn't know what to think of the situation, sending a casual smile her way he returned to the task at hand as he found his sign of clumsiness. Due to the lack of a sandstorm, footprints didn't get taken away so easily, at best there was a small force here built up of lightly armoured soldiers, the footprint size and weight into the sand showed as much anyway. Perhaps this also indicated Twin Sword was present.

If she is... She really needs to work on her discretion"

Realising he was thinking out loud he cleared his throat and kept walking.

Robert Crescent
Freya Crescent

"I would expect as much, considering she decided to talk to you. They're pry just waiting to spring their trap. However, we are not alone works both ways. We may have some watchers on us, but we work as a team, and thus we never fight alone." Robert said as he continued to dash higher along the path before him. "So here's the plan. If we run into your little friend, you and one others remain behind to deal with her and whatever goons she might have with her, then catch up when you're able to. The rest of us will continue on to Samuel's place and find a way to safely spring whatever trap they have laid for us." Robert explained to the group while still moving. They were about halfway to their target destination.

*************

As citizens began pouring into the tree trunk, Freya began guiding them to the old tunnel. She had several of her elites with her, their eyes and ears peeled for anything out of the ordinary. Just then, something above them moved. Without hesitation, Freya swirled her lance, creating several hundred leaves of pure energy before then launching them at whatever was above them (Cherry Blossom).

Several grunts were heard as a small group of soldiers dropped from their hiding spots. "Looks like my son was right. And I'll get to have a little fun." she spoke before looking to her men. "Keep the citizens moving! Leave these fools to me." Freya spoke. At that moment, she charged forward at the recovering group of Oielvert's troops. Against a normal soldier, they might have posed a problem. But to Freya, who had battled the likes of Beatrix, a traced Kuja and even Necron, they were as difficult as common thugs. Her spear blocked and parried the oncoming attacks, and her skilled strikes and slashes struck true and swift.

***************

Outside, approximately 25% of the population had been evacuated, and there was still more to go. The rooftop squads managed to find some groups of Oielvert soldiers hiding in wait. However, they were fools to only look at the ground troops and not watch out from above. The first two groups of hidden soldiers found themselves under a deadly shower of arrows. The sounds of their bodies hitting the ground caused the other groups to come out from hiding. Now the real fight would begin. Each archer made sure to silence any Oielvert member that tried to pick up and blow on their warning horn. So long as they could keep the warning from being sounded, they could continue to control the flow of the fight.

Lan Ester

Lan nodded as he looked around. The faint noises of battle caught his ear as he turned toward the source. "Wait guys. Can you hear that?" Lan muttered as he listened to the faintest sounds of battle.

"Looks like the fight started. We need to speed up. Rob, care to hurry things up? I wanna avoid the fighting if it's alright with you?" Lan muttered urgently while he looked around for enemies while picking up his pace. Walking past Anne, Alleria, and Ricard, Lan matched speed with Rob. "You must have been here before. You know any short cuts that could get us to our location ?" Lan asked looking at the burmeciean.

Anne noticed the sounds of blades clashing, Burmecian troops were fighting off the Oeilvert army whilst trying to maintain their advantage. Looking up, Anne realized that they still had a ways to go before reaching the top.

"Looks like the fight started. We need to speed up. Rob, care to hurry things up? I wanna avoid the fighting if it's alright with you?"

Lan was right, although it is still possible to avoid direct battles with the element of surprise, the more time spent here would only decrease that element and increase the chances of a confrontation. If there was a shortcut, then that would serve to quickly reach Samuel and get him out of here. All she needed was Robert's answer, since he is the only one leading them up there.

Robert Crescent

Robert shook his head to them. "Hate to say it, but this -is- the shortcut, unless you can all jump like a Dragon Knight. Just gotta pump your legs harder!" Robert said as he charged forward at full speed. As he did, a patrol guard ran out from an intersecting pathway. Without hesitation, Robert lunged forward and slashed the patrol guard's throat with his bladed lance before he could do anything. Soon after he would toss the body off into a shadowed corner somewhere. Robert took a quick look around. So far, so good. They were getting rather close to the church. Only about a minute more away.
