Persona 5 Announced by Atlus, Coming to PS3 in 2014

Persona5Tease-670x376.jpg

After a 72 hour long count down and the opening of a mysterious teaser website two months ago, Atlus finally lifted the curtain on Persona 5. The announcement came a on the tail of a string of trailers about smaller games for 3DS and PS Vita to ramp up the hype. For a moment I honestly feared that they wouldn’t announce it. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster! The upcoming JRPG will be released on PS3 in winter 2014. No other data has been shared besides the participation of Katsura Hashino, Shigenori Soejima and Shoji Meguro (RespectivelyPersona 3 and 4‘s Director, Character Designer and Composer), featured in a short teaser with the message “You’re a slave. Want emancipation?”Of course we’ll keep you updated on any further news we receive on the game, but for now that’s all we know, besides the url of the official site, which is available here. One thing is for sure: many thought that the PS3 still had some life in it, and they have been proven right just now. Exactly like Persona 4 provided a fantastic farewell for the PS2, Persona 5is likely to become an awesome swan song for its successor.Below you can see the teaser trailer. It’s worth mentioning that its text is in English with a Japanese translation. It’s also interesting that the names of the authors are spelled in the western way (Last name after first name, while in Japanese it’s the opposite). While it’s too early for any announcement on an English localization, that’s definitely promising.

I am extremely excited for this, I am a huge Persona fan and just by the teaser trailer alone I can tell it is going to be dark in it's theme. I am gutted to see it be only on PS3 as Catherine and P4:Arena were on Xbox 360 as well. This means when it comes to the probably 2015 release in Europe I'll have to re buy a PS3 :(. Maybe the PS4 Gaikai streaming will be perfected by then?! then I won't have to. Either way I would do anything to play it so go Atlus :D

Oooh, I'm a huge fan of the story and atmosphere that came with Persona 3 and 4, so this is something I'll look out for. The fact that we're gonna control students as slaves this time (I assume we'll still control students) shows that the typical Persona darkness will be back (as Mosh said).

...don't let it take years for it to come over to the UK. If they do that, they may as well just chuck it on PS4, even if it won't be as good a quality as we'll expect for that gen.

"Yay! An entire event where Atlus trolled the fuck out of everyone only to end with a very short trailer confirming Persona 5 but showing nothing else apart from chairs and some Engrish! Truly the best day of my life! Nothing else is comparable!" /a rabid Atlus fan on the internet today

After sitting out for a whole console generation, finally they decide to get up off their arses to make Persona 5 and "reveal" it. Though knowing Atlus, after Persona 4 Arena, nothing can stop them from slapping a region lock on the game. And since the companies who manage the "localisation" and publishing job here in PAL regions are largely hopeless when it comes to a timely job-well-done, I'm expecting a 2016 release for Europe and the other lot on the other side of the hemisphere.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, it's Sega (Sammy) now, isn't it? With Sega, it's either one of two options:

1) Localisation with relatively okay speed.

2) No localisation.

i'm sooo happy the series is going dark again, while P4 was a nice break with a much more happy theme to the game, i'm looking forward to the darkness that got me into the series again

I think the trailer leaves a little too much to the imagination, but we'll see if ATLUS releases more info. by early next year. I think the use of Engrish lessens the impact of a topic (ie. slavery) that would otherwise be scrutinized. Certainly seems like a risky theme to me depending on how they execute it, and obviously very dark, which I'm sure many P3 fans love. :p

When I first heard this, I was uberly excited. I got hooked on the Persona games starting with Persona 3, then I went on to play Persona 2 (need to play it again.) and a little bit of Persona 4.
I just can't wait!! Hurry up an come out.

I read that this will also be available on Playstation 4. I really can't wait for this.
