Pursuit

Lily glanced behind her as she ran throught the alleyway, her feet splashing in muddy puddles as the artificial light of New York City fell on her, illuminating her way. Her breath came in short gasping pants as she tried desperately to escape the pursuer she could hear behind her, her heart pounding as her white blond hair trailed behind her, the girl ruled by instinct, taking the path her mind told her to, not thinking twice.

Her feet splashed in muddy puddles as she looked above for chopper pursuits but, thankfully, saw none. Choppers would catch her in a flash, especially on a clear night such as this, with the glow of the crescent moon descending upon New York with its transcendant, unearthly light.

She stumbled out of the alleyway, gasping, terrified, her white hospital gown, covered in rust-like blood, torn. Her mouth, dry, tried desperately for moisture, but her lips found none.

Lily screamed as a taxi almost hit her, the echoing blare of its horn remaining behind to haunt her. Clutching her gown tighter to herself, she ran across the road, looking straight ahead as she plunged into the wooded, grassy depths of Central Park.

It was darker in here. Lily didn't know whether that was a good thing or a bad thing. She could hide more eficiently from the terrifying woman hunting her down, but she was frightened of the dark. Terrified. And she didn't know why. Couldn't remember why. Her head ached at the mere thought, so she decided it would be for the best to run on.

Lily supressed a gasp as she almost fell into one of the huge lakes that made up Central Park. She stumbled, toppled, and almost tumbled head first into the water, but managed to regain her balance just in time. But now she was stuck here. She couldn't turn back.

The footsteps were coming closer. The fear was filling her up. She felt like she was about to burst or implode. Her breath was becoming ragged and painful, and the terror was rendering her helpless. What could she do? She couldn't fight. She had a weapon, but she couldn't. She couldn't kill again.

"Agh!" Lily clutched her chest, glowing pink. Pink? What was going on? What was happening to her? It hurt. Oh God it was like something was trying to claw out of her heart and into the world. Something she didn't want in the world. Something she wanted to keep hidden. Lily was also painfully aware of the fact that the pink light made her noticeable, easily locatable in the darkness. And the pain just wouldn't stop!

Lily screamed as wings of rose quartz erupted from her back, tearing through the fabric of her hospital gown and marring its former crisp whiteness even more. A pink light encompassed her hair. Something was forming in her school, entwining itself with her hair and scalp. Looking into the lake using the pink glow still emanating from her chest as a guide, she saw that a crown of pink rock had formed and placed itself on her head.

Even as she watched, her eyes dulled, and became a lustreless, blood red, emotionless and without any of the passion, fear, or desire to get away that had been there earlier. Lily turned her back to the water as her body filled with a rose pink aura, and she raised her head to the sky, breathed deeply, spread her wings, and flew.

She stayed low, flying over the cars and people that lay below with none of the hesitation that had been there before. She soared, free, her face emotionless, a mask of cold concentration, before she flew up higher, past a row of New York City penthouses, to land at the top of one of them, poised perfectly at the edge of the balcony.

Now to wait for her pursuer to come. Lily's scarlet eyes gleamed briefly with adrenaline, and anticipation, as her fingertips and palms crackled with suppressed power, just begging to be released.

The thrill of the chase wasn't apprehending the target, but the adrenaline rush that filled your very body while you were still hunting them down.

It was a clear night in the city of New York, but Luciana Sanfield had no time for silly games. She walked swiftly through the city, knowing full well that her latest target would be giving up on running anytime soon. To her, their resistance was futile and her job would have been a whole lot better if they just gave up instantly. But no, Luciana knew that her job could never be so simple and had to conform to the limitless chases she'd been through over the years.

"Agent Lightning, status report," came a firm, but dark voice through her earpiece.

"Target's headed towards Central Park," she replied with a cold and emotionless tone of voice, one that could send chills through an old man's spine. "This shouldn't take too long, Agent Harrison. Expect another dog to the cage within half an hour."

There had been countless targets over the years that Luciana had managed to capture, but this one was most certainly different. Ever since the government had started tracking down elemental beings, her resolve to be special burned ever so brighter than before. Her life was within the government itself now. She never ever questioned their motives because they had taken good care of her for sixteen years and continued to do so even now.

Luciana's footsteps became slower when she entered Central Park. If she could've smiled, she surely would have done. But alas, she was an emotionless being. She would've laughed. She would've been amused. But anger was the only feeling that she could achieve right now. She was angered to be wasting her time with this target, this imbecile that didn't deserve the power she held from within her very soul. As she came closer to the target, Luciana heard her cry out.

Maybe she had given up? Perhaps this was all too much for her? At least that would make the chase a whole lot easier. Maybe she'd still be able to make that late boxing session she'd been thinking about for quite sometime now ...

However, Luciana came to a halt when the target screamed. She witnessed the wings of rose quartz emerging from her back, ones that tore through her hospital gown. There was an amazing pink light surrounding her hair. A pink glow came from her chest and a crown pink rock had formed on her head.

Retreating behind a tree, Luciana watched her target fly up into the sky. Her face wasn't the same somehow ... it almost felt familiar to her. Casting aside her delusions, Agent Lightning watched the target fly up past a row of penthouses and finally landing on top of one of them. She was now on the balcony. The perfect aim for the perfect agent like Luciana.

She did not question this mind game for one moment. Luciana saw this as an opportunity to end this silly charade. She sprinted from Central Park, not breaking a single sweat, and jumped on top of a taxi when it came speeding down the road. Luciana jumped again on to the drainpipe and blocked out any pain that she may have felt whilst climbing up. Once she reached the top, she flung herself on to a balcony. However, her mission could've easily ended then.

"Get outta my home!" yelled a man, holding a shotgun.

Luciana was not intimidated for a single second. Her baby blue eyes burned into the man's violent brown eyes in an attempt to distract him from shooting her. She did not raise her hands to surrender. If there was one thing that the government had taught her, then it was to never ever give in at all costs.

"You really shouldn't have said that ..." she said, her voice almost childlike.

She outstretched the palms of her hands and the innocence was lost in a split second. Bolts of lightning spurted out her fingertips, aiming perfectly at the man. He screamed out in terror, dropping the shotgun and fell to the ground with a loud thud.

"Agent Lightning, status report!" barked Harrison.

"Man down. But don't worry, I didn't kill him," teased Luciana in that same childish tone. "He was just an obstacle standing in my way."

Turning around, she headed back through the balcony and began to climb up the next drainpipe. She was high up enough to fall and die, but Luciana wasn't exactly clumsy either. Once she reached the top, she flung herself on to the next balcony, which was just opposite of the one that her target was perched upon.

Time to get the party started, she thought. But just as a warning, I hope this one gets the message.

Luciana outstretched the palms of her hands once again to charge the lightning up. Knowing that her target hadn't seen her yet, she wanted to play a game. What this game would entail was a mystery indeed, but would eventually out. Once fully charged, Luciana sent a powerful lightning bolt at the glass near her target. The glass smashed instantly, the shards splitting and scattering everywhere.

Serenity felt uneasy. She hadn’t slept well for the past few days. She kept having the strangest reoccurring nightmare, it was always the same dream, but she was still no closer to deciphering what the dream meant, or what it was trying to tell her. It always ended the same way, a feeling of evil seized Serenity, and there was a flash of bright light, before she woke up coated in sweat. Most alarmingly, Serenity found that her powers were going haywire while she was dreaming, one morning she woke up to find herself floating in the air, another morning a telekinetic earthquake forced her awake. This was most disconcerting for a woman for whom control of her powers was everything.

Serenity strolled around her penthouse, holding a book she could barely pay attention to, pondering recent events. She may have been a recluse, but Serenity was aware of what was going on in the world. She was aware of the recent rise in violent activities in the city, and meditated daily to keep her psionic barriers around her penthouse strong. The last thing Serenity wanted was to be involved with the problems of the outside world, although, she felt guilty. She knew that there were people out there who were suffering, even dying, who she could save if she released herself from this self-imposed incarceration. However, she pushed this thought to the back of her mind, and decided to think more on the mysterious dream, and what it meant for her future.

Serenity put her book back on the shelf with her telekinesis, sighing, today just wasn’t her day. She walked into her meditation room, a specialised room designed to resemble a Japanese garden, and she had even had a miniature fountain installed. Serenity sat down on the painstakingly raked sand and assumed her meditation position, and began to clear her mind. Allowing her powers to take control, Serenity began to see beyond the confines of her penthouse, and trusted her instincts on where to look next. Her power of telepathy was unique, allowing her to scan huge expanses of land without leaving her home. This was particularly useful for Serenity, as it allowed her to stay updated with the world without becoming involved in it. Her powers were always more drawn to other elemental beings, as their mental signals were stronger than those of ordinary humans. However, appearances from elementals were few and far between, often disappearing as soon as they appeared.

Tonight was different. Serenity watched in awe as one elemental appeared to be chasing another one. Serenity took control of her powers and began watching the chase; eager to know how this was going to end. For some reason, she couldn’t get a clear signal on the one being pursued; there was something about her that was blocking Serenity’s telepathic probe. Serenity resisted the temptation to probe further, not wanting the other elemental to know she was watching, and because, should Serenity have tried to break the mental barriers around the girl, she could have inflicted significant mental damage. Instead, Serenity focused her viewing on the other elemental. The pursuer had an aura the likes of which Serenity had never detected before; it felt cold, unnatural, and evil. It sent a chill through Serenity’s spine, watching in horror as this woman casually incapacitated an elderly man. How despicable, Serenity grimaced, before noticing in alarm how close the two figures were to her own home. The younger girl’s stopped moving, Serenity realised, and they’re right above me!

Serenity severed her telepathic link and ran towards a chest she kept in her meditation room, picking up her staff; She wasn’t going to intervene, but, should a fight break out, she was going to make sure she was prepared. Although she abhorred violence, but she would not allow two elementals to destroy her home or endanger her life. Serenity strode into the main room, her staff in her hand, and her robes billowing out behind her, intending to fly out onto the roof to investigate, when she detected that malevolent presence and a sudden wave of panic hit her. I forgot about that one! Serenity barely had time to raise a shield before a bolt of lightning blasted her window into millions of pieces. Taken by surprise, the power of the blast slammed Serenity to the floor, although her last minute shield had protected her from the bulk of the electric force, and stopped the broken glass from ripping her to shreds.

Lily
Temptress

The lightning was reflected in Lily's eyes as it struck the glass below her, shattering it. However, she didn't flinch, her eyes still that emotionless stare, her face a cold pale mask, unmoved by the display of power that would strike fear into the heart of any other human. She watched as the other powered person, who had carefully probed her before, was knocked to the ground, forced to use her abilities to stop the electric assault and the glass shrapnel it has produced She looked directly at Luciana with nothing but contempt and arrogance, and then she opened her mouth and spoke, her voice an emotionless, hollow imitation of before.

“You can barely even function in society.” Her eyes were fixed on Luciana, her voice containing neither triumphant smugness, or a sorrowful lament. It was a matter of fact tone. “What are you even doing out here?” She paced back and forwards, her feet clicking on the stone of the ledge as she moved, never taking her eyes off Luciana.

“So go ahead. Put aside your madness and hunt me down.” Lily still would not smile, and now, without turning her back to the government agent, she unfurled her wings and leapt to the next building, her wings lifting her to land perfectly on the next ledge across. She rose a single slender pale hand and beckoned Luciana towards her with a long, bony finger, still not allowing any emotion to flicker across her face, nor any humanity.

Luciana cared little for the person that had been affected by the lightning hitting the glass. Why was there something in her target's eyes that was so familiar? She couldn't shake this awfully familiar feeling away. When the target spoke, her voice was emotionless. Cold. Full of ridicule. This newfound confidence within the target was beginning to worry Luciana. Targets never normally had a personality transplant during a chase. As the target spoke to her for the first time, she never took her eyes off Luciana. And neither did Luciana take her eyes off her. This was the very first time a target had directly confronted her. Things were about to get interesting.

Barely even function in society? Go ahead, put aside the madness and hunt her down? Was this an invitation? What did her words mean, anyway? Words were useless, only actions were important in today's world. She was here to finish a job and reel this pathetic excuse for an elemental being in. However, Luciana was beginning to doubt she was so pathetic after all. Maybe this one had spunk after all. But to tick her off with every insulting word in the dictionary? The rage was surely coming within moments of taking those beatings.

She watched her target leap to the next building. She noticed the single slender pale hand that beckoned her with a long, bony finger. The emotion was not there on her face, which was a shame. The panic and fear on her face was a splendid sight to behold earlier. Whatever had caused her to suddenly be brave was nothing more than a petty illusion. Luciana sighed, disappointed with the events that had unfolded. She shook her head.

"If you're offering your life, I'll willingly take it," she said coldly.

Lightning appeared all around her arms that eventually started going down to the palms of her hands. Once the charge was complete, her baby blue eyes instantly turned from innocent to menacing. She roared in defiance and sent the huge lightning bolt towards her target, not caring what would happen next. Whatever anger she had left was conveyed through that single attack, one that would lead to the chain of events that would surely change everything ...

Luciana only caught a glimpse of her target falling from grace. Her eyes widened when she searched from the balcony of where she could've landed. She examined the smashed mess she'd left below and shook her head in disappointment. The target had managed to get away, but the fun was only just beginning. She switched on her earpiece.

"Agent Harrison, the target escaped."

"How could you let this happen, Agent Lightning!? You're the best, you ..."

"It doesn't matter about that, Harrison. I've got intriguing information, which the superiors should be notified of. I'll be back within ten minutes. Over and out."

Turning the earpiece off, Luciana looked upon the destruction and devastation she had caused. She felt no remorse for what she had done. She was merely disappointed that this could not have been more ... fun. Luciana jumped on to the next available drainpipe and slid down until she reached an electrical wire that had snapped a while ago. Closing her eyes, her body materialised into the wire and she sent herself back to the base like a cold signal.

“Luna, I'm going to need you to run to the library and fetch me some more books. I'm done with these.” Dyne said to his right hand receptionist, Luna . “Sir, I'm going to have to find a new library, you've systematically gone through the Dewey Decimal System.” Luna sighed, this was the 2nd time this month, Luna could tell Dyne was getting restless. “Carry on, just bring me back something I haven't read yet, please?”

Dyne had been locked in his penthouse for the last two months. He had been running his criminal organization from their. By all means, it was “small time”, but it was more than enough to ensure that he had a comfortable life. He very rarely ever left his penthouse. Dyne stayed home in his office, read books, and trained with his katana occasionally. The last time he left his penthouse was to confirm to the humans under him that he hadn't lost his touch, and he wasn't afraid of ending their lives if they thought of rising against him.

Looking around his office, he noted just how far he had come. Wooden walls, huge double doors with golden handles, a small dining table for eating in the office, and off to the side, a normal looking door that led into his dojo where he practiced his combat skills. Inside was a wall, lined with katana's, and other assortment of weapons. Every now and then, Luna would spar with him. Luna was Dyne's only friend in the world. Mostly due to the fact that humans were typically put off by Dyne's looks.

Dyne didn't watch television all that much. He much preferred to read, and he never discriminated by genre, he read everything. Seeing as he had just finished the final book, and had run out of things to read, he played some music. Joe Hisaishi – Riverside, that would be a great one. Turning on his music, and sitting back in his large brown, leather, swivel chair, he laid his head back, brushed his hand through his hair, and started to think.

However, the more he started to think, the hungrier he got. Luna was still out, so he grabbed his phone, and called .

“Yes, this is Luna.”
“Luna, could you bring back some pizza, I'm starving.”
“Sir, I'm not going to be around forever, you know. You're going to have to come out sometime.”
“Yes... I realize that. However, at the moment, you work under me, and I want pizza.”
“Yes sir, anything else?”
“...Don't you dare let me find anchovies on that pizza.”
“Understood.”

Dyne hung up the phone. He was going to have to give that woman a raise one day. Lest she actually try and quit, then where would Dyne be? No books... No Pizza... Dyne called Luna again.

“Luna?”
“Yes sir?”
“You're getting a raise.”
“I don't think that's in the budget.”
“The hell with the budget.”
“I'm not going to quit, you know? You pay me well enough.”
“...Liar, I hardly pay at all.”
“You pay me %90 more than anyone else. Stop giving me raises.”

Luna hung up that time. “Ruddy bastard.” Luna has been working directly under Dyne for 3 years, and in that time, they had become close friends. They had attempted dating once, but that didn't go well at all. For one, it was weird dating your boss from what Luna told him. Two, it was hard dating someone you couldn't bring home to the folks. Three, he was the head of a criminal organization. Four, he lost control, went into crystallized form, and killed a couple of people in front of her. She never looked at him the same again. Dyne tried to inform her that this was no big deal, but to no avail. She broke is heart, but stuck around for some reason.

Dyne looked up and fell asleep for what seemed to be an hour. He awoke to the smell of old pages from books, and pizza. “Thank you, Luna.” Dyne muttered. “It's no problem, sir.”

*Smack*...*Crack*

Bloody f*@ker! Stay the hell down!

It was one of the stupidest mistakes Dies could ever make, running up onto the roof tops of a rather posh district. Besides the height, she stood out like a sore thumb if she was in the usual crowd of this area. Right now, she had just pummeled yet another punk for hire, paid by a small timer gang for the stuff she held on her back. One was no problem, but even a swarm of ants can be rather powerful. Right now, she was in front of a swarm of ants. Ten, if you'd include the four at her feet. So far, she did not have to pull out her baton, but it was getting grimmer. The two at the back were huge beasts. Should they charge before she dealt with the other five, she was in trouble. Dies could use her gun and blow a hole into them, but the retort would be loud enough to freak out the residents and most likely call the fuzz on her. Dies needed to finish this now and run. From the corner of her eyes, she spotted something good. Her escape path.

Alright boys. Playtime's over.

Her left hand flew into her coat and pulled out her black, custom M1911 and ran straight at the crowd. Like the punks she was expecting, they had little to no experience with a gun and did not react rather well when threatened with one. It was perfect. Her right hand had wrapped itself around the handle of her telescopic stun baton and whipped it around across the temple of the first cowering punk. The force of the swing dropped him like a stone, a OHK. The next was taken down in a similar time. His eyes widened as he saw what happened to his mate before a heavy boot crushed into the side of his knee, collapsing him to his knee before a heavy fist rammed from point blank into his nose. Dies rounded up to the third and jammed the stun baton into his stomach. Of course this wouldnt bring him down, but with a button depressed, the baton extended and a high voltage ran from the weapon straight through the system. Three were down, but the remaining three began to converge when something to the side flashed. All four turned and stared at the light, but Dies quickly saw the opportunity and wrapped her hand behind the last scrawny punk's head and laid three knees to the face. That brought back the attention of the two beasts at the back.

The lightning had faded, but she was still in trouble. Most of the threats are gone, so running wasnt an issue.

Sorry. Gotta go!

Depressing the baton
, Dies ran at full speed to where she had spotted the electric wire. It ran across down to a lower level apartment block and conveniently, had a balcony below. She placed her baton on top of the wire and leapt off the building as if it was a flying fox. There was a few seconds of terrifying vertigo before Dies met heavily with the opposing wall. The crunch was loud, but the bruisers were stuck on the other side.

See ya boys!

And with that, she scampered into the building and out of sight, but the mysterious lightning on the clear night still hung around in her mind.

Nibbling at the remaining flesh upon the bone held within her little hand, Reryn listened only half heartedly to the report of the rather stocky woman before her. Her large red eyes glanced from the woman talking, to her accomplice and back again as the talking finally ended. Tossing the bone onto the silver plate before her, Reryn pulled the somewhat tatty cat plushie sat on her desk to her chest.

Waving a hand dismissively, she finally spoke to her underling, in a tone that was filled with both boredom and sheer irritation.

"Eh... whatever," she said, pulling herself up from the desk and walking towards the window. The child was tiny as she watched a woman exit one of the buildings close by, a menacing glint in her eye as she licked her lips and seemed to dance with glee where she stood. "Step up surveillance," she said, allowing her form to shift, tossing the toy aside.

Something about the woman who had recently been Reryn's focus of interest both intrigued and irritated the hell out of the mysterious young woman. Reryn ran her tongue across her lower lip, before catching it between her teeth and giggling softly, turning on her heel to face her subordinates. Her now long black hair tumbled down her back and her chilling crimson eyes were filled with a malice born only of pure animal instincts.

"However, Loretta..." she addressed the rather largely built woman, "fail me again and you'll be joining your brother..."

She tilted her head towards the plate upon her desk, the bone upon it. A malignant glint played in her deadly eyes as the woman's face paled visibly.

"Now... leave me. I have much to think about."

The woman and her sidekick exited Reryn's office swiftly without so much as a backwards glance. The vicious smile remained upon Reryn's face until she felt the woman was far out of hearing range.

"You don't need to be so..." the voice spoke in the back of her mind, childish and yet more mature than the voice which answered it.

"Oh, do be quiet. We do what we have too...." the innocent seeming voice giggled sadistically. "I say you let me have her anyway..."

There was a silence broken only by the ticking of the clock on the wall. Finally, Reryn turned back to the window as the woman from earlier returned.

"Wouldn't you much rather have her?"
the adult Reryn asked inwardly, speaking to the child within her own mind.

"Oh... that sounds like a much better idea."

Reryn allowed an evil smirk to ghost around her features as she pulled the blinds down over the window. All in good time...

((Annnnnd here she is... easing in...))

Lily
Freefall

Lily watched the immense charge of electricity surge towards her. Unused to her full powers and surprised at the speed and fury of Luciana, she was unable to raise a force field, and so was blasted off the edge of the building with a single cry of outrage and fear, that human aspect of herself aking itself more clearly as she sped to earth.

She banged off the concrete walls of the two cramped buildings, pain lancing through her body as she fell further and further down, her eyes and vision filling up with a all-encompassing red mist of pain, her consciousness fading.

She finally hit earth with a painful thud, hitting off a dumpster with a metallic clang before tumbling to a stillness in the concrete shadows of an alley. There she lay, trying not to let the awful pain fill her up and drive her mad, trying futilely to resist it. She choked as her heart twanged in the same pain as before.

She felt her wings falling away, the extra weight vanishing, a cracking sound preceding the lifting of wait from her shoulders and back. Sighing as the bloody mist became thicker and the pain grew more intense, Lily surrendered to the blackness and fainted.

Sky Girl

Up in the air above the clouds a young girl was flying too her heart content. She flew with much grace and control and the speed was unmatched too even the fastest jets. The entire fact of her speed being quite unmatched made her happy and not so hateful against her own powers.

Looking through the pictures she had just taken from the above of Tokyo, Russia and Italy and smiled as they were quite pretty and somewhat artistic. The mere thought of being able to fly too all these places in under a day was a great ability for her.

She decided too descend below the clouds too see where she was now and it was another big city, but something was drawing her closer and closer too it. She could feel a strange energy emitting from somewhere.

Flying at high speeds, so fast a normal human would only think it was a bird she managed to get close too this weird energy she was feeling. It was then she noticed a pair of females in a heated argument of some sort. One had the power of lightning the other she was not sure over.

She was hiding behind some objects too make sure she was secure and managed too pull the wind direction away from her so she could easily hide her presence.

She was startled by the lightning strikes and was surprised about the fact that someone else had powers that was not her. Even thou she felt somewhat happy, she felt threatened by the woman with the lightning and knew that she should get away.

As the event was about too end she made the wind grab her and drag her away as fast as possible into somewhere safer too hide from anyone who could possibly follow her or see her. She wondered however what happened to them after she left and ascended swiftly and high into the air hiding herself in a self made cloud too look, but she could not see anyone.

Deciding to stay in the cloud for now she pulled out her camera too take pictures of the surroundings as she usually would and the area she was looking over was nice enough for a few pictures.

Letters of a tormented businessman... *click for theme song ;)*

May 28 (Year????)
It was a damp night in New York when I asked my chauffeur, Wilfred (he was a man in his mid 40s, who had white hair, wore a broad grey moustache and beard, had small eyes and broad nose) to drive my limousine back to my apartment. Outside the limousine, the streets were dark, the stars in the sky were barely visible due to the vast array of artificial lights created by humans (lampposts and other street lights...the usual stuff you find in any average metropolis). It was raining heavily, not many souls could be seen aside from the ones lingering the scarcely illuminated perilous alleys of the city. I had a Penthouse in the Fifth Avenue, located inside the luxurious Pierre Hotel. The limousine belonged to the company...my company. I had it all, power, prestige, control, money...yet I lacked the basic needs; love, affection, care, friends...

My life was a very lonely one. Always competing, always fighting and leaving no time to rest. Never dropping my guard. The chauffeur hinted me that we would arriving my "sanctuary" (that's how I called my penthouse) soon, so I told him to take a different route so I could enjoy gazing at both the good and bad things of this city. Inside the limousine there was a bottle of wine, good o'l 1964, quite an expensive item (but who cares? Money doesn't buy happiness). I took a glass and served me some wine and then a placed the bottle back in the ice inside a stainless steel bucket. As I relaxed my self sitting on the leather seats of the limousine, I could not avoid thinking about all the time I spent amassing this fortune and gaining power beyond my full understanding. Then I have this...curse...this poison coursing through my veins. "The Void" the power of life and death, a power which drew me closer to a God. Tempting, corroding...lusting...this power gave me all the capabilities to whatever I wanted as I see fit.

Damn but the voice in my head, urging me to seize control of the city, demanding more power more control would not shut up. It was about to drive me to insanity. I guess, with my influence in the Republican Party I could attempt running for a political position and with that, cement my path to the White House. That would take years of course, but less if I played my cards well. Still time is what I have, and all the time of the world it is. How many friends, relatives, associates, and employees have I buried? Around 20? 30...maybe hundreds? I can't remember well or it's just that I don't care any more for it is always the same; me standing before the pit were my friends will rest for all eternity as their mortal remains are devoured by the agents of nature. With my powers I can cheat death, or is it that death does not wants me? Immortality is unbearable when you have seen the planet spinning on its orbit far too many times. Seconds become minutes, minutes become days, days become years, and years become decades, and so on, just like that Einstein said when he gave his conference about the theory of relativity.

I admit it was boring at first, but then that example about the two people in the train watching a lightning caught my attention. In synthesis, one could say that life comes and goes depending from the eye that views it. I have seen this world from way too different perspectives, yet all conclude the same; this world is rotten.

But by my God, sure time flies fast. I haven't noticed it was way past 2:00 am when I noticed that the chauffeur was showing signs of sleepiness. Poor guy, being forced to work for as long as my whim wanted...good think I was considering rewarding him for his extra-work. Around 2:30 I asked the driver to take me home. He left me at the entrance and bid farewell. I pulled my wallet out of my jacket and paid him an extra amount for his hard work and told him to take the next day free. I could see the joy in his eyes as I felt I did...the "right thing". What is the right thing? To help others? To help yourself? I never seem to find what exactly is "the right thing to do".

The lobby guard saluted me and I replied with a small gesture with my right hand, then went straight to the elevator. My penthouse was at the top floor, from which I had a 360 degree view of the city. I believe that's how God feels when he watches his children from heaven with the only difference that I watch over others from this...hell.

I took off my jacket and left it on the couch, then I turned on the lights with my remote controller. I started the chimney (yes, I was at the highest penthouse and I had the money to get my own chimney...money sure has its benefits...) and then I sat on the couch next to a half empty bottle of vodka and a small glass filled with ice. I sighed my boredom away as I kept taking shot after shot of that hard vodka. Hell I don't even remember how to get properly drunk any more...centuries of alcohol consumption have somehow made me immune to getting drunk that or I just can't seem to notice any difference...I don't know.

God why this damn rain never ends?!- I remember shouting as I angrily hurled the glass of vodka at the fireplace. The fires burned vividly as the remains of alcohol fed its unquenchable thirst. "Shit...now I have to get another glass..."- I thought as I rose from the couch and went straight to the kitchen. I searched the drawers, reached another glass cup, closed the drawers and then went back to the living room. Outside the window, the rain was poured heavily by these huge nimbus clouds and then I remembered that outside this building the streets must be horribly freezing.

It's 3:30 am...and I still can't sleep. I have to go to the office by 7:00 am and I've gotten near no rest and all vodka. That or I can send a representative, I can do that because I am the CEO after all. They only need me to attend stupid meetings, sign permits, and make sure my money remains my money. I am well respected among my associates, I give what they want and I get what I want, simple deal and it works wonders. I guess that after years of living among these normal humans I got to learn how they think and what they wish, almost as if I could read the human heart or mind...depending on the philosophical b*****it you use.

Oh well, I'll just go to bed. At least I didn't ruin my suit, I would have been seriously pissed if I did. Yeah, going to bed is the best idea I can have right now, besides I am almost running out of vodka for the next night. I went to the restroom, took a off my clothes and had a warm nice shower. I placed my suit inside my wardrobe next to my other collection of suits and formal wear (I really like those suits, I have black ones, white ones, brown ones, grey ones...name it). After I reached my black pyjamas and went to bed I began to listen to that voice again oh but this time I had means to shut it up. I remember asking my doctor for some medication and he gave me these pills who sent me straight to bed. Maybe I'll have one and I shouldn't worry about all the vodka I had....after all I can't die by normal means anyway because some shit force of the planet doesn't want me to die yet. Aye, Gaia, Earth...however you call it can be a bitch sometimes...

Luciana opened her eyes, as she arrived back at the government headquarters through the circuit. She noticed that Harrison was stood there, expecting her arrival back here as always. He was stood in the same spot by the door that led to a hallway, connecting to the rest of the buildings.

"You're late," he said.

"I got held up, as I already pointed out to you," snapped Luciana, joining him. They walked out of the circuit room and started walking down the hallways. "The superiors will want to know this newly acquired information."

"Care to tell me before you let them know?"

"Can't wait for it to be announced at briefing, can you? Elemental beings may not be as simple as the government once thought. I was chasing one down tonight, as you know already, and they had a personality transplant halfway through the pursuit. Her confidence rose and she even had the guts to directly confront me. It was ... interesting, to say the least."

"So they underwent a transformation?"

"I think so. But if I may, there's one thing I want to ask."

Luciana turned to her mentor, her baby blue eyes innocent and curious for now, with her arms crossed.

"Do you think it would be possible for me to go through such a thing?" she dared to ask.

Harrison sighed, almost as if he were disappointed with his pupil. His dark eyes did not strike fear and terror into the already emotionless agent, but he could still assert his authority over her. "It's early days, Agent Lightning," he replied. "Our research of the elemental beings hasn't properly begun, we're lacking in samples to support it and it means nothing can be possible right now."

He swiftly walked on, leaving Luciana confused. She stood there for a moment, deep in thought, until she remembered the target once more ...

"You can barely even function in society."

"What are you even doing out here?"

"So go ahead. Put aside your madness and hunt me down."

Anger surged through Luciana's veins. Before she decided to catch up with Harrison, who was far ahead of her by this point, she grabbed the nearest government official and shocked him with a jolt of lightning. He surrendered immediately, running away in fear that she'd give him more than that if he didn't get out of her way now.

"Ignorant bitch!" Luciana hissed under her breath.

Serenity was relatively unharmed, a little shaken, but otherwise fine. Thank goodness I was able to raise a shield in time, she thought, feeling relieved. She stood up and observed the damage done to her wall, unperturbed by the cold draft now invading her home. They really did a number on the wall, didn’t they? Serenity was horrified, yet somewhat impressed by such a display of power. Remembering she wasn’t wearing any shoes, Serenity decided to clean up the mess, using her powers to reform the wall, and reinforcing her forcefield there.

Her job done, Serenity decided to make a mug of camomile tea, before deciding on her next move. She realised it was pointless attempting to pursue the two elementals she had felt before, already they had vanished off her radar. Sipping her tea, Serenity slipped into deep thought. I can’t remain in isolation any longer; not when there are rogue elementals out there… I don’t have to kill them, or even fight them. I could just enter their minds with my powers, and give them an attitude adjustment. This troubled Serenity… she would be helping people, but at what cost? Taking away an individual’s basic right to free will? Actually…that’s not such a good idea. Serenity was torn. Who says I have to do anything at all? But… the dreams, this attack, the sudden flux of elementals… they have to be linked somehow. Serenity slammed her empty mug down, her mind made up. Right, I have to investigate at least. And, if I meet that… disturbing individual again, I’ll see what I can do. If she was totally honest and told the truth, Serenity had no idea what she would do. She had never felt such malice from a person before, and this troubled her greatly.

Serenity walked into her bedroom and changed into less conspicuous clothes. First she removed the four knives concealed in her robes and laid them out on her bed, grabbing another 4 from her drawer. She knew a staff would be too impractical to carry around the city, but she didn’t intend to be defenceless. She changed out of her flowing purple robes, and shoved on some black jeans, and a purple T-shirt with long batwing sleeves, covering her arms. Underneath her T-shirt she wore a holster, in which slotted her two longest knives, both storing them and concealing them perfectly. She wore two long black leather gloves, each of which could conceal a knife, and disappeared under her sleeves, a knife carefully hidden in each glove. Putting her long black socks on, Serenity turned her attention to her boots. She had them custom-made years ago. At the time, it seemed like a vanity project, as they made her at least 4 inches taller, but they served a special purpose, each one of them had a holster on the inside which stored a knife. Serenity placed a knife securely in each boot before turning them upside down and paying attention to the heels. They weren’t just to make her taller, although I do like that, Serenity giggled, as she grabbed a knife and plunged it into the heel of her boot. This was her last line of defence, her special storage place. She placed a knife in the heel of her boots, if all else failed, she just had to kick with enough force to force the dagger out, where it would hopefully strike her assailant. I’m probably being overly paranoid, she mused, zipping up her boots, but… I have to be prepared for everything. Elementals are public enemy number one.

Wrapping her favourite black shawl around her shoulders, and attaching it to her shirt with a few clasps, and placing a black beret on her head, Serenity took a deep breath and walked out of her penthouse for the first time in two years. Walking down the steps, Serenity began scanning the surrounding areas with her telepathy, looking for any elemental signal. There’s one… not too far from here, but it’s fading! I think they’re hurt… oh dear. Right. I’ll go find them, and bring them back here.

She had reached the main foyer of the building, and was pleased she’d managed to leave the building without causing any harm, when a burly doorman addressed her

“Miss Elwood! How are you? I haven’t seen you for… oh, it must be two years now? We were all worried about you”

Oh great, this guy. Serenity rolled her eyes, before tapping into his mind, you never saw me. I am invisible to you. The doorman’s face went blank, and he walked back to his position, not even noticing as Serenity walked by.

That was almost too easy, he has a very weak mind. Serenity giggled, and then composed herself, knowing she had to find the ailing elemental before someone else, like that sinister entity, found him or her. With renewed energy, Serenity strolled down the street, as the sun began to rise behind her, dispelling the rain away.

Dyne ate his pizza rather quickly. It was his favorite, pepperoni, sausage, and Canadian bacon. Luna practically had his order memorized. However, before she went home to the day, she said to him “You should really find a way to get some fresh air, you're getting very restless.” Dyne decided that tonight, he would go to the roof of the building, take a desk or something, and read a book under the moonlight.

Doing just that, he ordered two of his underlings to bring a desk to the room of at rather large building, and he brought 3 books, lest he finish all of his reading in one night.

Lily grunted with pain as her consciousness returned. Her skull ached with a dull, persistent pulse of pain, and as she put her hand up to her head, she felt it dripping blood, the warm red liquid trickling between her fingertips. She felt tears, partially of fear, partially of pain, trickling down her cheeks.

She couldn't remember a thing. The last thing she could recall was running away from the powerful presence she had sensed behind her, but... she was somewhere different. It was as though she had blinked and ended up here, and she didn't like the feeling at all. Standing up straight, ignoring the renewed pain that assaulted her head as she did so, Lily started to move, ignoring the pain.

Her vision was blurred and her head spinning, partially due to the pain eating her up, amking the tears fall, partially due to the blood seeping from her head wound and into her eyes, and partially from the concussion she surely had, making her vision blur and her world spin. She staggered, tripping and almost falling, before moving.

The light of the rising soon and the trickle of the rain on her head wound made her eyes sting and ache. She kept her head low as she limped, staggering here and there, moving her battered and bruised body more from instinct and numb desire than actual thought. She was so tired and in so much pain she could only trust in her instinct and hope for the best, and that it served her well.

Staggering back into the sounds of New York City traffic and small talk, Lily could feel the eyes of the early wakers on her as she stumbled out, a bloodied, bruised, terrified mess. Her breath was again painful as she looked around, expecting to see someone chasing her, hunting her down at any minute.

She was so unaware of where she was going, so full of nerves and fear, that she didn't even notice the woman in front of he rin the abandoned alleyway she'd ducked into until she crashed straight into her and fell down. Rubbing her head, she looked at the vague silhouette of Serenity above her, the glare of the sun in her eyes as everything went black again.

Serenity smiled, she’d missed being outside. The feeling of the suns rays on her back… the gentle breeze of the wind. Of course, she’d stood on her balcony, but this was so different, this was liberating. Despite it being only 7am, the streets were already full of traffic, and there were plenty of people on the streets. From enthusiastic joggers, to obese people lining up outside fast food jaunts, and business people yelling furiously down the phone. I guess New York never changes, Serenity was fascinated, you can lock yourself away, but life goes on.

The best part about it was that no one was giving her a second look. It was wonderful, she wasn’t the tragic heiress to a fabulous fortune, or a devastated millionaire loner refusing to face the world, as the media so liked to portray her… she was just another person, a faceless person who interested no one. Revelling in her anonymity, Serenity had a spring in her step, before she remembered why she had left her solitude in the first place. Get a grip girl; find the hurt elemental before it’s too late!

Serenity began scanning around telepathically, she could feel something… but she wasn’t quite sure where. This is why I hate the city, she remembered grumpily, everyone’s so noisy. Trying to tune the inane thoughts of randomers who didn’t interest her, Serenity concentrated harder on the presence of the wounded elemental, picking up her pace. She was about to scream with frustration, there’s only so many lewd thoughts I can take before breakfast, she thought irritably, when suddenly, there was a crystal clear elemental signal, which quickly faded. Gotcha! Serenity smirked with triumph, making her way towards the source of this signal.

Serenity stopped and began glancing around, she knew the elemental was close… very close. She just couldn’t see them. She was about to check down a side alley when she heard a high-pitched scream, turning her attention in the direction of the scream, and then she saw her. A girl, staggering, with blood pouring from her head. This was the elemental she was looking for. She ran to where the girl was standing, not caring for the all the funny looks she was getting.

The girl didn’t even seem to notice Serenity, and walked straight into her, falling to the floor. Serenity grabbed the girl’s hand, and used her most soothing voice “Hello? Can you hear me? My name is Serenity Elwood, and I’m going to help you.” The girl’s eyes closed, she was unconscious.

Shit, shit, shit. This is not what I had in mind.
Serenity was now standing over an unconscious girl, who was bleeding, being stared at in the middle of an increasingly busy street. Panicking, Serenity’s powers started to get the better of her, and she heard others thoughts at random

Did she kill her?

I’m gonna tell the police I saw her attack her. I could be on the news!

What happened? Do we call the cops?

Serenity weighed up her options carefully. I’m only 20 minutes away from home, I could fight my way there, without powers, these people will never make it into my house… but that could get messy. I know what I’ll have to do. Serenity put her hands to her head, and closed her eyes, before spreading her arms out wide. Slowly but surely, the crowd began to fall down, asleep. Traffic came to a halt, and the street was dead. I’ve had to put them to sleep and erase their memories of this incident… they’ll be awake in twenty minutes, but we’ll be long gone. Luckily, human minds are weak. Unfortunately, Serenity knew that using her powers to that extent was not only draining her of energy, but sending up a massive flare signal to anyone else who could track down elementals. Lifting the unconscious girl from the floor with her powers, Serenity began walking back to her apartment, the girl floating alongside her, ghostlike. Serenity made sure to use as many side and deserted streets as she could, although it would have been quicker to go back the way she came, she didn’t want to use her powers any more than she had to. The few people she encountered down these streets were put to sleep and had their minds erased with relative ease. Serenity cursed herself for such a grandiose display of power, if anyone had been searching, they knew exactly where to find her, using that much power was akin to leaving nuclear radiation around.

When she approached the building, the doorman didn’t bat an eye. Good to know my mental manipulation of him was a success, Serenity grinned, feeling smug. Luckily, the foyer was deserted, allowing Serenity and the girl to quickly pass through it. Going into the elevator, Serenity pressed the PH button that took them directly to her penthouse, and began to relax. She had never used her powers on such a large scale before, and she was left exhausted. When the doors closed after she walked into her apartment, Serenity was too tired to even raise another barrier. Placing the unconscious girl on her luxurious sofa, Serenity leaned against the wall, and collapsed.

Blinds drawn closed to the world, the only indication Reryn had to the arrival of Dyne upon the roof just opposite of her office was the urgent and frantic rapping upon the door. Bidding the visitor entrance, she looked once more upon the bulky woman, Loretta, though this time minus the disdain she usually felt for the woman.

"He's out, Mistress," Loretta gasped. It was evident the woman had rushed to deliver this news to Reryn as soon as possible.

"You have done well... take the rest of the night off. Take Morris with you."

Loretta bowed once before leaving the room. What exactly she and Morris would get up to that night... Reryn wasn't really interested. There was definitely something going on there but the slender woman was far too intrigued by exactly why Dyne had emerged on his rooftop to actually give a damn.

Striding across her office, Reryn brushed a hand through her long, dark hair and sighed softly. She knew very little about Dyne. Only that he lived close by and had his own little circle, much like she did. Just how big or influential his ties and contacts were, she didn't know but tonight... just maybe she would be able to find out. After all, she would be stupid to pass up the opportunity to talk to him as he sat alone upon his rooftop beneath the twinkling stars. Besides, the man piqued her curiosity... and it took a lot to do that with this persona in control.

"Don't kill him..."

"Why the devil would I want to kill him?"

"Why do we do anything?"

"Oh be quiet you... I'm going to sleep. Leave her to it."

"Fine..."

The voices fell silent and Reryn found herself rolling her eyes to the ceiling as she opened the blinds, slipped the window open and climbed out onto the sill. There he was, almost directly opposite. Drawing on her powers, Reryn took all warmth from the air and allowed her element to take her over.

Ice crackled outwards from her feet, gradually forming an arch from her window to his roof. With all the grace of an ice skater, she slid over it, snow falling around her due to the lack of warmth in the air surrounding her. Hitting the rooftop opposite, she stepped delicately into the ridge and stood, hands on her hips and large red eyes twinkling.

"Well, well... isn't this a surprise..." she said softly, moving to perch nearby the man who operated within her own territory. "Reading beneath the stars.... how very refined."

(Ooc: Due to the color of the font and the description, I'm assuming that this is Reryn's 18 year old appearance. However, I'm color blind, so I could have easily gotten it wrong. O_O)

Dyne watched as the beautiful young woman walked towards him on an arch of ice. The arch was extending in front of her as she got closer to him. Step by step, Dyne couldn't help notice her beauty. From her long dark hair, to her stunning eyes, her elegant figure that was complemented even more so by the vision of snow and ice that surrounded her.

Needless to say, Dyne was completely stunned. However, a man of composure, and a gentleman, Dyne suppressed all instinctive male traits and didn't make any movement, not a smile, not a smirk nor grin.

However, he knew that if she was able to use that kind of power, she was the same as him. Arguably not human, and immensely destructive. He was going to have to ensure he didn't do anything to spark her anger, lest there be a fight on the rooftop.

"Well, well... isn't this a surprise... Reading beneath the stars.... how very refined."

"Why thank you. I do try my hardest, and I do enjoy the occasional good book. Oh, where are my manners? I'm Thompson, Dyne Thompson. Would you like some slightly cold pizza? Unfortunately, that's all I can offer you, besides maybe a good conversation."

A new day begins....or is it the same day with a different face?

May 29, 2010

A new day began on the morning of May 29 at 6:00 am. The month was almost over and I had several meetings schedule for next week. It was the lousy head drilling sound of the clock alarm which woke me up. As I rose from the bed and remained sitting on its edge as I rubbed my face and my neck with my hands in an attempt to wake myself fully. The bright light of the morning sun forcedly found its way to my room through the translucent shields we call "windows" since I forgot to close the Venetian blinds I installed last week. The intense light slightly hurt my eyes which were getting used to being opened after remaining shut for three hours and with little time for them to recover from last night's nightmares. Yes, the pills did put me to sleep, but they didn't kept the nightmares at bay. Dreams of people running in horror as the country was attacked by enemy fighter aircraft...dozens...if not thousands. The bad dream of a patriot coming true... having its country attacked and with no means to defend it.

But hey...we are the United States of America, a titan among countries. Our military power is second to none, or at least that was we are used to believe. I don't know what to think any more. After the events of 9/11, the vulnerability of this country was exposed for the first time on the assault of what once was the center of world economy. Perhaps our arrogance blinded us or maybe it was the after effects of becoming pacified. Either way we lost two of our most important icons of economy on that same day by the hand of one person, whether he is alive or dead...but it would be very depressing to discover that the sole memory of one human being was more than enough to mobilize a group of humans into attacking one of the world's greatest military force. More depressing would be if we discover that the hand that pulled the strings was not of an outsider...

If there's a God, because I want to believe there is, I sure hope he helps us to expose the traitors. Anyway, a long day is a head and I better get up of this bed. After looking for my underwear in the drawers, I stretched my arms as I walked with a slow pace towards the bathroom, almost as if my body wanted to stay in bed rather than committing to the daily activities. Here I was, in a bathroom which costed more than the family income of the average American, but I didn't care. I took off everything and enter the shower. The water was slightly cold since the heater was broken and the repairman wouldn't arrive until noon. Oh well, I guess that's what I needed; cold water poured on my skin almost like sharp blade carving through the surface of my skin (if the alarm didn't wake me up, then the cold water sure did the trick).

By 6:45 am I already was clad in my "shiny" armour; I was wearing another black suit to day with the exception that the neck tie was red and pocket watch was gold. The meeting was schedule for 7:30 am but I already called the office that I was in "the traffic". Nothing like a little white lie to start the day. Since I told the chauffeur to take the day off, I had to drive my car to the office (I had a Porsche Panamera black). After grabbing my keys, my wallet and my sunglasses, I locked the door to my penthouse and went straight to the elevator.

The Parking Lot was quiet as usual, most of my neighbours were already on their way to their respective jobs and I was the only one late. I opened the car, made sure that my briefcase was in there, then I put the key in the keyhole and started the engine. The car roared like a lion and I grinned like a devil.

After I exit the Parking Lot, I turned left and followed the street hoping to reach the highway soon. Suddenly I felt like struggling with the steering wheel, my hands were shaking and a voice began to echo inside my head piercing through my thoughts and memories. I could also fear an immense power in the city, a kind of temporal displacement almost as if "someone" somehow managed to play with the balance of reality.

"Near....elementals are near...find them...kill them....let none of them stand in your way! Ah Serenity...I know her...her power...the taking is at hand. Two birds with one stone! Come on Nathan you can't miss this. Kill them and reclaim their essences!!"

The deep and dark whispering voice commanded me as I fought for control and at the same time here I was trying to keep the car from crashing. Finally I got a grip on reality as I stopped the car next to the grocery store. A dark alleyway was to my left and the Drug Store was to my right. Perhaps it would be a great chance to get my pills but somehow I felt drawn, compelled to enter that alley.

As I felt my body and soul dragged to that location by an unknown force
I began to doubt about the reality of the voices. What if they weren't just "dreams"? I thought I had "it" under control...

After tracking down the source of the displacement, I realized that whoever caused it was long gone, and only a faint trail of energy was left. Should I follow it? Wait..."follow" what am I some kind of dog sniffing on a trail? What am I doing here on the first place?! I pondered as I angrily realized I only had 30 minutes left to get back to my car and drive back to the office as if the very fires of hell were in pursuit.

Once back in the solitude of my car, I began to reason all what happened. Of course it made no sense no matter how I approached the situation. Curiously, I couldn't get that name, "girl", out of my head. I felt a dark and grim impulse to locate her...to reclaim what was mine...or what I thought was mine. Was it her power or something else? From where did I knew that girl (well the voice because I had no clue of who she was)? I am dead sure I've seen her somewhere....my dreams perhaps? TV? After a while I was back on the street just about to enter the highway, 15 minutes away from the office. For now I'll just relax, tell the voice to shut the fuck up for once, and enjoy the panoramic view. I'll catch that girl later...

Deep inside my consciousness I kept hearing the voice commanding me to find her, again, and again...

Lily was dimly aware of being lifted into the air and groaned, blood dripping from her skull as she looked around, sure she was hallucinating, the concussion altering her thoughts. She appeared to be lifted into the air with no effort. There was nothing supporting her. No hands, no anchor. Just some invisible force lifting her along.

And she could feel something else. Something darker. The thought made her want to open her mouth and scream at the top of her lungs. If only she had the strength. The power to open her mouth and warn everyone away. Away from this dark prescence with the potential to destroy so much. The thought made her head ache yet again.

And now, the people she was passing... were falling asleep as they looked at her... What was going on? She couldn't stop the fear and instinct from rising again. Something was happening, and it was very real. Her head moving from side to side, she hadn't the strength to do anything other than look around. Even that made her drift in and out of consciousness, and, eventually, she gave up on trying to find the source of what was lifting her, and surrendered to the blackness again.

It seemed like an eternity later when she woke up, but it couldn't have been long, for the sun was still hanging below the horizon, not quite fully risen. She sat up, rubbing her eyes and sighing, turning the exhalation into a yawn as she stretched. Her back hurt a little, but it would pass. Balling her hands into fists, Lily rubbed her eyes until she could open them wide, and realized her headache was gone.

Reaching her hand up tentatively to where the pain had been when she had last been awake, Lily was startled and pleasantly surprised to find that the wound had healed. It mustn't have been quite as deep as she thought. Otherwise, how could it possibly have healed so fast?

Standing up straight, Lily looked around. She seemed to be in quite a luxurious building. A... palace, was it called? Or.. a penthouse! That was it! Lily smiled in delight, proud of herself for remembering the word, then began to go exploring around this wonderful place with a renewed curiosity.

Seeing a door lying open, Lily looked in, inquisitive and delighted to see an unbelievably comfortable bed in the centre of the room. If Lily wasn't wide awake, she could have slept on the soft mattress all day long. It's sheets were so crisp and white she longed to give in to her childish desires and jump up and down on the bed.

Still, she suppressed these infantile urges. She was a big girl now. Someone had told her. She was a grown up. A mature person. Who was it that had told her that? She couldn't recall who... She couldn't even remember when, and it hurt to think about it, so Lily decided that she wouldn't think about it, and moved into the room.

A huge wardrobe was up against the wall, taller than Lily by two foot. She looked up in innocent awe, then decided it couldn't hurt to look for clothes. Although this would be considered rude by many people, she didn't particularly care about manners and etiquette when her only clothes were ripped and bloodstained.

Opening the wardrobe, Lily was greeted by a huge number of clothes. Blinking in shock, she began rifling through them for some kind of clothes. Lily eventually found what she was looking for, and, with a cry of delight, pulled out a black, cleavage height dress with shoulder straps. It would fall to less than knee height, but the leggings would make up for that.

Not one for modesty or self preservation, Lily stripped naked there and then, and got into the dress and leggings, putting on her old black shoes again when she had finished. Sighing happily, feeling renewed, she turned towards her old hospital gown... and saw something lying in the torso.

Crouching down, she grabbed hold of a pair of white silk gloves, and looked at them in confusion. What were these doing in her clothes? She didn't remember wearing them before, and now they were in her hospital gown.

Still, never look a gift horse in the mouth. Slipping the soft gloves on, she moved out of the room she had so casually invaded- to see another woman slumped against the wall. Looking at her curiously, Lily blinked. "Um... are you OK?" she asked, hoping for a response."My name's Lily. I think this is your house. Um..." Lily wasn't sure what else to say.
