Multiple Platforms Mortal Kombat

With the release of Mortal Kombat (2011) drawing ever closer, NetherRealm Studios today revealed a promotional clip for the Kollector’s Edition which will be available alongside the other editions of the game on 19 April 2011.

Available for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the Kollector’s Edition will include an amazing pair of Scorpion and Sub-Zero bookends, an art book, a retro ninja costume redemption code and of course the game itself.

GameSpot today received an exclusive first-look at Liu Kang’s vignette. Not only does it yield a brief insight into the Shaolin monk’s history, it also provides a first look at the Rooftop arena and confirms Kano and Shang Tsung as playable characters.

As a young orphan, Liu Kang was trained by monks, ultimately becoming Shaolin expert under Master Bo’ Rai Cho. Assisted by the God of Thunder, Liu Kang is Earthrealm’s best hope for freedom and survival. Liu Kang is destined reach the final challenge and become the champion of Mortal Kombat.

In addition to the reveals, an interesting observation is made toward the end of the video when Shang Tsung morphs from Reptile back into his normal form. Has Shang Tsung’s morphing ability made a much anticipated return for Mortal Kombat (2011)?

The video also features Liu Kang’s Theme, a track that comes from the upcoming album Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired By The Warriors due in April. The track, as well as Sub-Zero’s Theme, are both available now via iTunes.

I can't say I am surprised that they are playable. Wow. Why can't April get here sooner? Seriously all these news and trailers really make me want to play the game even more. This is the way a next-gen Mortal Kombat is supposed to be. >.>

Here are some information about jade classic custome and a new trailer of a new revealed character Noob Saibot.

April 19
not only signifies the launch of the eagerly anticipated Mortal Kombat (2011), but also the simultaneous release of both Mortal Kombat movies on Blu-ray. Bundled with both Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat Annihilation will be an exclusive redemption code, allowing PlayStation 3 owners of the game to unlock a classic Jade costume (pictured above).

In addition to the aforementioned news, there are rumours circulating that something big may be in store for fans sometime tomorrow. Stay tuned...

It's rare that you find a competitor who brings a gun to a Mortal Kombat tournament, but Kurtis Stryker is just that kind of guy. As it turns out, the MK character – first introduced in Mortal Kombat 3 – will be part of Warner Bros.' new Mortal Kombat digital series, and IGN has the exclusive on who's playing him.

Tahmoh Penikett, best known for his role as Helo on Battlestar Galactica, is taking on the role of the police officer character, referred to here as Lieutenant Stryker. Penikett, seen more recently in Dollhouse, joins a cast that includes Michael Jai White as Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya and Darren Shahlavi as Kano.

Styker, meet your new Mortal Kombat webseries incarnation,
Tahmoh Penikett (seen here in his Battlestar days)

White and Ryan are reprising their roles from last year's unofficial Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short, with the director of that project, Kevin Tancharoen, co-writing and directing the digital series.

The Mortal Kombat digital series is now filming in Vancouver, for release this spring.

NetherRealm Studios this morning released a new trailer showcasing some of Liu Kang’s devastating attacks. Subtitled ‘Epic Beatdown’, the video was initially exclusive to gaming site 1UP.

Interesting tidbits include the revealing of a night version of the Shang Tsung’s Garden arena, as well as a little bit of footage from the game’s Story mode and Johnny Cage’s tuxedo costume making a return as his alternate.

Edit: Here are some new information and 3 new screenshots recently release.

The Australian Classification Board (who are Australia’s equivalent to the ESRB) have refused to classify Mortal Kombat (2011) according to a reliable Australian retailer that has chosen to remain anonymous. The game therefore will not be available to mature gamers in the country unless modifications are made. The retailer has revealed that they received an email asking them to remove all references to the title, and that all pre-orders must be cancelled as a result.

From an official statement issued by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment:
The highly anticipated video game Mortal Kombat, published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) in Australia, has been refused classification by the Australian Classification Board and will not release in Australia. We are extremely disappointed that Mortal Kombat, one of the world’s oldest and most successful video games franchises, will not be available to mature Australian gamers.

WBIE would not market mature content where it is not appropriate for the audience. We understand that not all content is for every audience, but there is an audience for mature gaming content and it would make more sense to have the R18+ classification in Australia. As a member of the iGEA, WBIE is reviewing all options available at this time.
No doubt this decision will re-ignite the country’s debate over the introduction of a suitable R18+ classification for gaming. Australia’s strictest rating for gaming currently sits at MA15+.

UPDATE: Kamidogu has obtained the official Decision Report issued by the Australian Classification Board in PDF format. The document lists the game’s realistic violence and some Fatalities as the main reason for the game’s refusal.

It’s Fatality Friday, and while a plethora of Mortal Kombat fans are still upset at news that Mortal Kombat (2011) has been refused classification in Australia, NetherRealm Studios have released three new screenshots to lighten the mood.

The images show Kitana and Cyrax doing battle in the Dead Pool, Nightwolf giving Kitana a mighty shock in Shang Tsung’s Throne Room, and Kung Lao delivering a hefty kick to the face of Sektor in the Bell Tower.

When Kamidogu attended the E3 Expo back in June 2010 we were excited at the prospect of being able to play a Mortal Kombat game that had returned to its dark and violent roots. As we sat down for our first hands-on with the game, we noticed a mode on the main menu called Challenge Tower. For well over half a year various theories about this mode have arisen, but nothing has ever been revealed. This has now changed, with the release of a new video on IGN detailing the mode for the very first time.

Challenge Tower is a mode consisting of 300 different missions that are designed to test a player’s skill and patience. Some are fun, while others aim to be very challenging. The ultimate goal for players is to complete each task, earning koins along the way toward the final challenge titled End Game. The Challenge Tower sees the return of the popular Test Your Might and Test Your Sight mini games, as well as the introduction of Test Your Strike and Test Your Luck. Test Your Luck essentially introduces a slot wheel that selects a number of variables such as who your opponent will be to whether or not they will inflict double damage or even have arms.

Another interesting element NetherRealm Studios have added to the mode are some more entertaining missions, such as taking down zombies in The Graveyard and having Stryker throw grenades into a moving bucket. It is likely that the variety offered in these missions will keep fans coming back for more. A third example given in the video is a tag-team battle that sees Scorpion and Sub-Zero team up against Shao Kahn whose clothes alternate between orange and blue. The challenge here is that players can only damage him when his attire matches the colour of who they are using (ie. if he is blue you can only damage him using Sub-Zero).

A number of new arenas are also unveiled in the video, including what looks like a re-imagined Pit Bottom. We also get our first look at some gameplay footage featuring Sub-Zero and Scorpion’s classic costumes.

Edit: New information of Mortal Kombat demo.

Just as you’re reeling from yesterday’s bumper PlayStation Plus update, a dark voice booms “Finish Him/Her” and we hit you with this: on Wednesday 9 March, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download the Mortal Kombat demo.

That’s one week before it’s available to everyone via PlayStation Store.
The demo includes four playable characters: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage and Mileena, along with their Fatalities and X-Ray Attacks; two environments: The Pit and The Living Forest; single player and one-on-one versus modes; and stereoscopic 3D support.

This demo I want.I need!!!!!!!..im now too anxious.....damnit Hope this game delivers.its time MK made its comback..

I don't blame you Ohri. I am hoping for a demo as well. Although from what I've seen I can definitely see that this game is going to be good. It will take a lot for me to not like it and me not liking it is very doubtful. Seriously I have a good feeling this game will be so worth the full price.

In other news, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon today made a guest appearance in Gamespot’s On The Spot broadcast as part of their ongoing coverage of GDC 2011. The 25 minute demo sees Ed elaborate on some of the game’s key modes, whilst featuring a multitude of gameplay footage. The video confirms Baraka as a playable character, and shows off Kano’s Fatality and X-ray attack.

Here is the video of the interview:

My only fear is they won't do midway justice. I've respected the series thus far, but all the off stories that they spawned really put a damper on things over the years. It's like they stretched the story to far and couldn't come up with enough.

I'll definitely buy the game for the fighting, but I doubt the story will be enhanced at all. As long as they don't screw up smoke's fighting moves.. I'm just fine.

Yeah it got banned in AU cuz the fatalities were too brutal and offensive..they might get a censored version......I hope for the aussies that is..

It doesn't make any sense, I mean the fatalities were ALWAYS brutal and offensive, that's Mortal Kombat. I mean it's not like the characters haven't been always pulled apart, had heads chopped off, chopped into bits by falling etc. Where the original MK's banned in Aus ??

I agree :britt: MK should under no circumstances be censored whatsoever! or it wouldnt be MK anymore hehe...

I just saw some fatalities on youtube and damn I saw Reptile puke acid in someone's mouth..its sick..

Kung lao's fatality is just too sick.. and Scorpion has one with his blade..too brutal mayne...

I dont want too spoil too much xD

I am defnitely getting that demo next weekk...lucky psn+ bastards ..they get the demo one week earlier.

OH fuck yeah. The demo, I'm so over that when it comes out.

--

I can't wait to see the hawtest char in MK, Jade xD. I wonder what her story will be.

.then again, Ed Boon could be a dick and decline the Aussies MK. :wacky:

OMG if that happened I would so rage. (Also if lived in Aus lols. ) I hope you guys can get at least a censored version. Sigh, people are so 'PC' these days.-__- Then again, maybe I'm just not so shocked about MK because I grew up with it and has memories enjoying MK 2 by the arcade machine in town as a wee, yet very violent young girl. :britt:
