I'm not sure if this goes here.. or Home Theater, so move it accordingly I guess.

Rumours are starting to circle that the 1988 hit Akira is going to get its own live action adaptation. But that's not all. Two roles seem to already be secured. Rumours of Zac Efron playing the role of Kaneda, the lead of the biker gang who gets experimented on by the Government, as well as the lead of the movie, have surfaced. Most Akira fans are outraged at this HSM atrocity taking, and potentially ruining poor Kaneda for us. We'll soon see.

Morgan Freeman has also seemed to secure the role of The Colonel.

Will Zefron forever ruin Akira... or will his adaptability to movie roles save him? Will he be scorned in the eyes of the anime community even if he does a half decent job? Does Freeman have a chance of saving this project?

I heard about this quite a while ago, actually, that Leonardo DiCaprio is directing it or something :hmmm: Also, that they're changing Tetsuo's name to Travis to westernize it >_> I mean seriously? It didn't get popular by being a modified piece of crap, it got popular in its original form, I haven't the slightest why anyone would think it's a good idea to change it.

And to Zefronize it is absolutely whoring it out for money. I'm sure that's got to be a rumor, or else I'm not watching it. I'm not even sure whether half his fan base would be into a movie like that >_>

Really?!?!

I just learned about this movie last week. Awesome ^_^ Although Zac Efron might kill it for me...

You've got to be shitting me.

No, no, no, no, no!

Fuck you, Hollywood.
:rage:

No way :O , NO fucking way...... :rage:

They remade a lot of asia horror movies
First DBZ Evolution
Then Avatar Last Airbender ( even though it was a animation from the west)

This is ridiculous. Also Zac Effron>? (I hate that dumb fool)

Akira is a classic anime movie which cant be allowed to be tainted by filth.
This is outrageous. :mokken:

I always said "You are not a real anime collector if you havent got Akira in your collection"

If they follow through with this shit :ffs: I would be so much disapointed... :(
Will they ever learn not to touch beautiful creations or if you do it do it as authentic as possible...

Things like these are making me dislike the West more and more...money greedy pigs..

... Is it just me or is Zefron getting shoved into near every movie lately? I'm seeing him near everywhere lately :ffs:

Amusingly, I never like any of such movies, if it's true, here's hoping he doesn't ruin it :sad3:

Just Let It Die: ‘Akira’ Remake on Hold Again

Published on: January 6, 2012 by: Jeff Leins

Warner Bros’ live-action Akira remake is reportedly on hold again while the studio rethinks the budget, casting, and script. Production offices have closed in Vancouver, according to the Hollywood Reporter then Deadline, with crews told to stop working on preparations for the big budget sci-fi adaptation.
The producers and director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Orphan) will spend the next two weeks tinkering with the script to get it into shooting shape, or risk shelving the remake entirely. They already let the options lapse on actors Dane DeHaan (pictured right) and Michael Pitt (”Boardwalk Empire”), the two men vying for the role of Tetsuo, a young Neo-Manhattanite abducted by government agents who harbors a devastating power. Otherwise, the movie nearly had the green light, and a March 5 shooting start date finally, after so many other starts and stops.

wtf, theres just nothing about this kid that suits that part, id be better cast as him than he would

Actually, the temper tantrums ive been having recently id be better suited as tetsuo, but seriously, if that rumours true, then he'd be poorly cast...

Admitedly I can't speak much for his acting abilities as Ive never watched any of the teeny boppy shite hes been in, but from the unfortunate glimpses Ive seen of him id have to say his image just seems all wrong for this part. That market of films and Akira just dont mix

If they're gunna piss about trying to 'Westernise' it, then they should just leave it alone and not bother, as its just aiming for the entirely wrong market

Though I suppose if youre just gunna go for the easy money, rather than remake it, because youre passionate about whatever it is, then youre gunna pander to the crazy flock of teenaged fans that the likes of Zac Effron attract

Akira Update: Stewart, Watanabe, Plot Synopsis

Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart are reuniting in Warner Bros’ live-action remake of the Japanese sci-fi epic Akira.
Hedlund will play Kaneda, a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel. Stewart will play Ky (Kei), Kaneda’s love interest and a medium capable of contacting Tetsuo in captivity. The two worked together in Walter Salles’ adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel On the Road last summer, though no release date has been set.

Meh if they ever get round to making this I don't care who they cast. A shitty live action film won't ruin a classic anime film. Just about every live adaptation of anime/manga is dreadful and I'm not just talking about shit like Dragonball Evolution; think about all the shitty Asian ones too.
