I maybe shoulda just asked in the rep thread but that things goin on too long.

We can like a post but we cant dislike one?

After reading that chocobo thread this morning and seeing a certain bunch of babies ( you all know who i mean ) crying about maybe being stuck in there for a month and threatening to leave blah blah blah yadda yadda. Doooooooo meeeeeeeee a favour and tell them to go awaaaaay / arctic monkeys song The Doctor will know.

My point. I find certain posts i read to be the most pathetic thing ive ever seen, and ive been to the city of Dundee. Can we have an option to Dislike posts? Mitsuki Shu and especially Six cuz dutchy gets stuff done like a mofo also You techy guys but i dont know your names.

And at Squid cuz she has sense and Fleur because shes cool yo
 
I think a dislike button would be a friendlier way of getting neg rep. Some people don't necessarily agree with posts but neg repping them is a little over the top, it'd be a nice way of saying 'I disagree'. I don't know if this can be put in to the system. I'd imagine so, but that's techie/admin areas, bro.
 
Lew I would say yes if we were a bigger community. Though due to the microcosm of a community we have here, I prefer not to distance regulars from new members further at this time. I agree, it would be funny in some circumstances, but even as a member I would say no. I don't prefer people to gang up on one another as is, and I could only say this forum is not mature enough to handle that type of button.

The biggest factor is the visibility. If people start seeing a pattern, you will get reported as well as your friends, which could lead to more over the top modding, which also leads to more staff vs members. Although that's entertaining for a few trolls, I prefer not to baby sit a button, as little activity as I have/had these days.

If we can get up to 200+ regulars I might even think about it. Though let's keep the members we got happy for now, even if it means boredom for others.
 
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm interesting point there tyler. But with the neg rep option already available isnt that doing what you wanna keep away already? And like dutchy said its kinda like a nicer way to say that you dislike a post. I mean...you NEED to leave a comment to neg rep :lew:

I was gunna go into the ganging up on people option cuz theres always members like Riddick / mlfy who were hated on unfairly. But they both made some shitty posts man. I would have like to click dislike to a couple (hundred)

EDIT: im not disliking a post for fun or cuz im bored. I would be dislining it because i think what youv said is ridiculous and or nasty and horrible.

I mean disliking a post I think is actually better than giving someone a neg rep.
Disliking a post can mean anything from "i disagree" or "I dislike what this post is about"
I Mean I do get your point Dictator Shu, but if that is the case then shouldn't you get rid of the Neg rep also?
 
Again visibility. I can't see your negative rep comment (well I can due to I'm an admin). I can only see numbers, if it says Lew, Shace, Kira, Shu have disliked Riddick's post, then people have more of a bandwagon attitude to jump in, without a thought of their own.
 
People with a bandwagon attitude are the ones acting like morons. But. I see your point and it would happen. I woulda thought it would stay anonymous if you disliked a post. Though...personally if it was implemented i would want people to know i didnt like that post. Kinda like.... not liking a post in a sleeping forest thread but not having to make a post which will be picked apart a hundred times over.

Im just throwing it out there as an idea. It makes no odds to me whether its done or not but i wanted to put the idea out just to see what other people think.
 
this wouldn't be a good idea rep = we can't see who gave it...... likes .... we can see who likes/dislike it

but saying that.... can't we see who given rep anyway, unless that has been changed recently????
 
Steveeeeeeeeeeee, Yes you can. Though no one else can.

The second point is most people won't realize asap that they even received rep. They are more into notifications. It would be hilarious if someone left me a user note as well, we don't even use it anymore, where as we use visitor messages.

I admit, rep is outdated, and I don't see a point. Though since I'm not the majority, I think let's keep rep.. and stay away from the dislike button, until we can get a more stable forum and more members.. which might or might not happen. (always willing to take advice)
 
I asked for a dislike button when the like button was first put up but I was told NO NO NO NO!

We do have a 'dislike' system - it's just not enabled for reasons that Shu already stated. I do see the point about it being more watered-down than the negative rep, but the problem is it's so easy for people to misuse it. Not that everyone or even the majority would misuse it - I can't know that for sure, but with the way the community is now in terms of activity, we need to focus on encouraging members rather than discourage them for something that they may disagree with. I don't even think that the negative rep is used very often, but with a dislike button, we might see so many of those that it may give someone the wrong impression about the community overall. It could even discourage others from posting their opinions at all. I know there are members we may not see eye to eye with, but overall it's too risky to introduce here because it can also hurt other good potential members / posts. I'm fairly certain that we will hear a few complaints from members.

I feel that if this system gets in that people will use it to attack people or members that they don't like.
Like a bullying tool. :sad:
 
I will take this chance to ask this: How about the likes and thanks button add rep points too? I get some likes but they dont seem to impact in my rep and im broke so i need the extra gils.

A dislike button would be awesome too, you cant agree with all people.
 
I never understood why people got so upset about negs, they're simply the opposite of regular rep. No one is amazed that someone was kind enough to rep them, but are devastated by someone cruelly negging them. The fact that a neg can be reversed by the staff when someone complains about it, is really weird. It's like you are being punished for disliking something. Being able to dislike a post seems less inflammatory then having to reply and explain how dumb the person is being.
