KH Ruined FF characters

I don't think they were ruined. I always assumed that they made the changes to the characters because the game is rated for ages 10+. So they had to do at least a bit of modifying to the characters.
^^ That could be true and it could also to get FF fans to pick up the game and get involved as well although they did make changes, looking back-- I can't really picture KH without Disney or FF in it. I don't like how they made Wakka Tidus and Selphie kids sure it was for the Islands and the whole age group thing, it just bothered me >_< they could've used other characters or something.
As for Squall, Yuffie, Cid and Arieth, I thought they were fine as they were. <--- (has anyone mentioned Cid? XD :wacky:)
As far as Seifer and his whole gang they were bothersome beacuse of the whole shinking down size thing Seifer's personality was about right but, idk. YRP I mean, they were cute although, they really didn't serve a purpose IMO.
I mean, I don't think it ruined it because I just cant picture KH without FF characters in it and I really wouldnt change it either I mean it was their version and I guess it worked out for them :monster:

No. Not really/ It's common sense. Mean you can't have a man who does gambling [Setzer] in a game that pre- teens are likely to playthrough. Super Mario games and Dragon Quest V seems to escape with Gambling mini- games but something mainstream like Disney ?, you are likely to get paranoid parents screaming that ''this *horrible* game is going to ruin my children's future..''

SE had to of course, tone the characters down. Auron no longer has his bottle anymore because it was involving alcohol. Setzer is turned into a Struggle Champion because he was a Gambling Champion. YRP are now Fairies, because they wore skimpy costumes and turning them into smaller creatures will now make their short costumes look cute and almost longer...

The only annoying thing is Leon. He seems to hyperactive/ cheerful and Rinoa isn't even around and calling him Leon is like calling him Leon Leonhart like Leon Leon. >.>'' Though think the game tries to show that it's hard to depressed when Goofy, Donald and Sora are around..

I think it depends on opinion. I've only just started playing but personally, I don't like the way they've made the FF characters into cartoons. It's not that they're ruined as such, just that, to me, they no longer look like the actual characters. So they might as well have just created new characters...

But as people have said, the worst one is Squall, because he's just... well, so not like Squall should be. I don't think they should have put the FF characters in a game rated 7+ because although it's not rude, there's bound to be aspects of characters that are deemed unsuitable (like Cid, he's been totally changed...) and that just leads to the characters getting altered again.

Basically, if they were going to put the FF characters in it they should have kept them exactly as they were (including not calling Squall 'Leon'), but since they didn't, well, I can't view them as actual FF characters.

I have no problem with what happened to the Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts, in fact, I'd rather not have them in there. On the whole they served very little purpose and you could have replaced all of the FF characters and it wouldn't affect the game whatsoever. They were there solely for a selling point.

They could easily have been more creative and just used new and more unique characters like Sora, Riku, Kairi etc to replace the FF characters if they wanted. But like mentioned above, FF characters were there to help the sales of the game, therefore, I haven't got a problem with what was done to them.

Ok one, Auron actually uses his other arm in FF X, Two Fuu has a limp arm and an eye patch, Squall (not Leon) has short hair and pale skin, Cloud does not have a wing and a stupid cape and the wierd glove claw thing on his arm, but Vincent does. Cid should be piloting a gummi ship, and Vivi was just ruined, Vivi was the best character in FF 9 and they took him and turned him into a brawler, he is a black mage. get it straight Square these are your characters so leave them the way that they are, they were fine just the way they were

I have no problem with most of the characters. I just wish they put more effort into Vivi. I mean, FFIX finally gets a chance to shine in the Kingdom hearts universe, and this is the best they could come up with? Other than that one gripe, I have absolutely no problem with the other FF characters. They did a good job on Leon's personality, as we all know his
FFVIII counterpart was no longer a jerk before the game ends.
(Kudos to The_Oathkeeper's post in the first page of this thread for pointing that out). If you compare them both, they're similar in most traits, so no one can really complain about his personality, unless you see something I don't.

It doesn't matter i guess! The good thing is, that there are FF CHARACTERS! ;] For example Tidus is a kid on Destiny Islands, and i was just like Whoa! It's Tidus Yuppie!! xd Stop complaining guys ;D

In my opinions they just changed the Final Fantasy characters too much. But that's just me <3 Aerith and Yuffie seemed to be the only ones that matched their original selfs..

Any thoughts?

Quoted for the truth, Squall I use to have such a huge crush on him I was obsesssed for him and I was so excited to buy Kingdom Hearts and see him in there I didn't like the outfit at first really but then when I heard him talk and saw the way he acted...I was shocked I was like 'Now ay that Squall, his name IS Leon...' and still to my dismay found it to be the truth. I never looked at squall the same way ever...He seems like a joke to me now..Liking the dalmations? Working with Mickey? :gasp:

Not 'Nice Squall' would do these things, WTH SE?!?!?!?

I also agree on another thing Cid was great :woo:

Well, the only characters I think were ruined were Squall...and that's about it. He just changed so much. I was a HUGE Squall fan girl and then when I played KHI I just lost all interest in him. Like in a LOT of ways.

Cid Highwind, in my opinion was perfect. He was the only character that actually got better too.

BTW;
Cloud, In I his outfit just throws me off, where did he get that thing from? And the cape makes him look like Vincent ._.;; More then just that, when you fight him....he's nothing like the Cloud we saw in VII or in AC. He has this one move where he actually spreads a wing and flies around...where did he even get that from!? ._.;; His attitude is still the same, so I'm glad for that.
interview about KH, Nomura says this;
"FFVII's main character, who even I have a strong attachment to. The single wing that appears when he uses the power of darkness is a homage to his eternal rival, Sephiroth. I think that the scene in the ending with Aerith, which is possible because it is parallel, is one answer." (Nomura)

So the wing appears when he uses his darkside and it's a homage to Sephy.
So, yea...

The only FF character I think who had a KH cameo and I was satisfied with was Auron. I liked the way they adapted him and made him fit with the underworld, actually feeling as if it could match his character and his themes from FFX.

The other cameos really only shared the name, and in some of them they might even share / resemble the appearance. The characters could have been adapted better I think. They just appeared to be there for the hell of it, and it didn't matter so much what they said or did.

It is, however, a Disney game, and not an FF game. The focus is on Disney characters (who are for the most part in character and share the appearance of the Disney characters they represent). The FF characters are just cameos, and have little to link them to the FF series. It is dissapointing at first, but you get used to it I guess once you know what to expect.

So at the moment (from only playing KH1 and KH2) I think Auron is the only one I enjoyed and felt like they made good use of. The others weren't slotted into the Disney universe well enough for me... They just shoved them all into
Hollow Bastion, Traverse Town and Twilight Town
(all the non-Disney worlds) and thought that they could get away with it. Auron however was slotted into the Underworld world quite well in my opinion (going from memory here anway).

I posted in here ages ago, I think, but just in case my older post is lost I'll have to add that it hasn't ruined the FF characters for me. I still enjoy he characters in their original games and nothing can spoil that.

I tend to agree that KH has often badly implemented FF characters and really needs to work to sticking to there original character. Sometimes they just feel like they were placed in the game merely for namesake and appearances rather than actually contributing to the gameplay.

For instance I was rather unhappy when Sephiroth made YET another appearance in KH and frankly I've grown bored and extremely tired of his overused character, when I can think of several FF villains that would have fit into the plot perfectly well without bastardising the base principle of there character.

Yep... its the QQstorm we've been making for years.

But unfortunately, there are many more people jacking off to Sephiroth and Cloud than there are those of us who are sick of them being whores for hire :wacky:

I don't think the FF characters in KH ruined it. I think the whole Disney part of the game REALLY ruined the game. I see FF as more of a serious type of game and to mix the two really didn't do it for me.

I don't see what's wrong with Disney being in a Square-Enix game. I think Disney was ruined a little (I thought the Pride Lands were bigger than THAT!).

I think everything in there was almost perfect, and it wasn't about FF or Disney anyway. It was about a new character: Sora. So what if the FF characters are not the same as you saw them in their respective games? I played FFX BECAUSE of the first KH, and I don't regret that decision.

And I got a feeling that once people find a little flaw on Cloud's or Squall's character in KH, they zoom in on it mercilessly. I don't mean it in a bad way, but get over it. I sure wish Zidane and Firion would be in a KH game someday, but I doubt it since most fans would rather want Sephiroth to appear YET again. KH it's not a direct sequel of all FF games anyway. If it were, all other characters would be more involved.

When you could fight the Final Fantasy characters they were VERY WEAK and nothing but pushovers and the last time I checked main characters aren't supposed to annoy you that is for the support character to do.

I fully agree, like for example with one of your first fights was against Squall in Traverse Town and it was so easy to knock him into next week, he is supposed to be a star character. The only character from final fantasy that gave me a run for my money is Sephiroth. I think Kingdom Hearts is a great game and a good start on a new franchise but sort it out people and give the big boys a little more credit :squall::ifrit::seph::oops:

Oh.. it hurts.. the lack of.. IMAGINATION..
So you're saying that FF characters (which takes a pretty damn good number in KH) should dominate over the Disney characters?
No way, tht would've took so much character from the game that it would've lost it's charm.

its supposed to be a mix right of both final fantasy and Disney but all the worlds bar 5 are Disney and not one is a final fantasy world, and the other 5: Traverse Town, Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden, Twilight Town and the last two worlds of both kingdom hearts games are just a filer whilst they can add a little something that made kingdom hearts possible in the beginning i.e. Gaia or something. Do you honestly think Square would still be about if it didn't make final fantasy to begin with. Because of final fantasy square became big and square has forgotten it i think and thrown a few useless and annoying worlds like Deep Jungle, Atlantica and Simba's island when they could of put more final fantasy. Why not a bit of final fantasy 9 in there, all you have in there with ff9 is Vivi.

There is a few things i do like about it like the formation of Donald, Sora and Goofy, that is a good thing which i like, i ain't going to dispute that or the world where they went back in the past i liked that too but c'mon a little more final fantasy shouldn't go a miss like a world or two and a few characters from ff9, they can keep stainer though he is just a complete idiot

Why don't people realise that they're no longer the main characters in this game? They are the supporting characters in this story. They are cameo appearances and in no way are they bound to the story so tightly that their presence influences much more than dialogue.
