Is it just me or are good forums becoming more and more difficult to come accross?

You'll get the "in crowd" who are the dominant species, in which people will suck up to and crawl up their asses. If one of them decides they dislike something or someone, or agree/disagree the rest will follow. Pack like mentality.

Then you'll get the e-warriors, who are constantly right and always have the superior intellect. If you disagree with something, they'll type half a book on why you're wrong. Also known to use words like "n00b" and "pwn" and "fail"

Then there's the White Knights, constantly chasing every female that posts.

Then ofcourse, trolls.

I used to use quite a few forums, but now only one or two, will check others but hardly ever post.

(by the way, I'm bored and should be asleep, so am probably in "over-think" mode.)

Discuss.

Well I have another forum I post in, it's just some off-topic one, and I'm used to they're way (I've been a member for three years), and I love the threads made in that forum. However, I'm sadly going to have to agree with what you just said.

Also, if I do see a decent thread in a forum, it's usually postcount disabled -.-

Ya i definiltley agree with you. In most of the forums i've visited you have to be with the "cool people" to be noticed. I find it's always funner to have people to talk to.. usually in these situations the forum will get boring and i'll usually leave. And i must admit, with everything you've said about what type of people there are, every forum i've been to has been like that as far as i know.

I can't say I agree with all of your categorizations but in general, I think you're right. I was mentioning this to Busta the other day. I come here to post. It's a forum, it's fun, and I like being able to waste some time and post my opinion about junk that doesn't really matter... but so many people come on here and make it their "second home". They expect people to fit in, meet their expectations, and live to their standards... and if they don't, they get mad. I'm not sure how people invest so much online but I don't think I could do it. I just like posting and I'm not here to get into cliques or groups.

I know at an old forum I used to post at, the place literally closed down because the crowd that had existed for 2+ years were such uppity bitches to any newcomer that the place shut down just because they couldn't find new life for the place. Any time a new member signed up, they'd riddicule them and submit them to their weird traditions-turned-rules. It was lame. And now those people are literally still there, posting on a dead forum, because they refused to lighten up and accept new people and different standards.

Forums are generally easier to fit in if they've just opened or are just starting to grown, apart from this one I'm registered at another forum (which was basically because I was bored waiting for people to come out of Survivor) and it's pretty new, and when I first went to FFS it was easier since it had just been opened, though it was great for members so it's a shame it closed >.>

I'd have to disagree though that people her expect new members to live up to their expectations, because they don't. This forum was easy to fit into, plus I couldn't really care if I didn't "fit in" on other forums, I'd just force my way in. :monster:

I was in quite a few forums, I found this one easy to fit in tbh (forget I'm a member for a long time) I manage to fit in easily as the staff are not so fucking cocky and strict as another forums I went to :monster: and the members here are like pretty much cool, all the same.

And about what you said "fail" and whatever, you can notice that said to the Vets here too xD even though I was in FFH before it got closed, that place was awesome too :wacky: there are quite a few forums who can't be stand where the staff and the older members thinks they are above eveyryone and treat them shitty. =\

I've been on a few forums, only about 6 I've been an actual almost daily regular though. But most of these had members that either had a common interest (FFF, IMMB, CS) or were spin-offs who had tolerance. I actually initially joined this forum as a sorta Troll (though really my attitude hasn't really changed since but whatever) as the Staff at the time were mostly cunts and I had nothing better to do, but then things started getting more laid-back and it's become a much nicer place.

I have no expectations of new members except for if they post or not. If they do then yay, if not then fuck 'em. If we happen to naturaly have a mutual intrest and get along then thats another e-buddy. If not then whatever, I'll just treat them as any other person in RL until I find something worth olding a grudge against.

I've been on here for about 2 and a half years (that's amazing, imho), and I still find this to be one of the best FF sites. The staff are really friendly and everyone is easy to get along with. I've got to say, though: I aimed to get myself noticed in some way when I joined this site. I joined back when the site didn't even have 2,000 members (I'm member #1988), and I decided that I wanted to be a Mod. I have no idea why other than the fact that their name is in bold and different colors and they always stuck out from the rest. Well, two years later, I sort of managed to get what I wanted. :D My name's yellow now, and I like it.

I don't know why it's such a popularity thing with me, but I just wanted to be noticed. Especially when my birthday rolls around, people can actually say "happy birthday!". (*cough* my birthday's tomorrow *cough*) :gasp:

I've only been been on here for a couple of days, yet i doubt that these forums will bore me in the years to come.

I've been through a hell of a lot of forums in my time, more than I can count and yet the most posts I've ever amassed is around 2,500. I suppose I do get bored of forums a bit easily and it's certainly becoming harder to find a forum I even consider worth joining.

Still, I've foound this place which is good and so far I've had nothing but good impressions from what I've seen (I'm just waiting for some big drama to kick off anytime soon as that's what usually happens). I suppose I have myself to blame for finding a lack of interesting forums in a way as I do have crazes with things whether it be music, games, films or whatever and so the fad soon dies down for me and I'm not interested enough to post about it anymore.

FF forums are probably the ones I've been on the most often and yet it's often the communities themselves that end up turning me away rather than the subject matter; there's a lot of FF forums out there but in my opinion not many of them are real quality ones. The only forum I used to frequent regularly has even bored me now and I stopped visiting a couple of months ago; other than that I tried joining another a couple of weeks ago, but a forum which has over 10,000 members and not one person bothered posting in the welcoming threads isn't my idea of a community and so I promptly left there too.

Hello fellow forum jumper. We're like train hoppers... of the internet.

I'm a bit of a forum addict. It's not that I fiend for them, but when I'm on the net I don't have much to do. I check out a few sites here and there, but I feel like I need a forum to entertain me. You can meet new people. I've learned tons of things from peoples back and forths on the net, along with my own research. I've met tons of different types of people. I've made friends because of forums.

But I kind of hate forums too, at the moment. It's true there are a lot of shitty forums out there. A forum should be a place for friendly banter and debate, for fun. Too many people feel the need to insult each other. I understand that arguments bring out the worst sometimes, so a few slip ups and insults are to be expected but some go way too far and it just ruins it.

I've had a few forum homes in my day: forums that have really made an impact in my life, as nerdy as that sounds. My first major forum, Black-Goat was incredible and I met a few great friends and debated with intelligent people, while discussing our collective favourite band. Then some things happened, the "regular" members (us, but we never looked down on noobs and they were welcome to post with us), mostly lefted and a new crowd took over and they were horrible to noobs. The forum is shit now.

I had Infinite, which was a good forum and I can't even remember why it went down but it's gone.

Another forum I post at is pretty dead right now, but I think it's comin' back.

I've been looking for forums for a while. I've joined a lot, posted a few times, never went back. This one seems alright, I posted at a Final fantasy forum many years ago and people seemed friendly so now it's stuck in my head that FFers are a friendly bunch. Don't prove me wrong ;)

Sadly this kind of thing always happens on forums DLFlux.

When I join a forum I want to be entertained and have friendly people to converse with every now and then.

However, there are always the ones who think that they are better than everyone else and that anything they say is to be worshiped.

You always seem to get some really sour people who make forums their lives because they know that their real life is shit. Half the reason it's that way is because they spend too much time on the internet in my opinion.

These people don't spend enough time in the real world and therefore ensure that they are GOD on whichever chat site/forum they decide to join.

There could be a perfectly normal conversation going on and then this certain member comes along, and posts something totally irrelevant/random/stupid to the thread itself, in order to get attention and what not.

The other members who think that this person is:

'so effing awesome and hilarious'

will then reply along the lines of:

"Owned. Pwnd (<--Whatever the hell those two words mean =/) Omg you rock! Omg I can't believe how cool you are!" etc.

When
they really mean this:

"Omg suck me now! That's how much I love your random retardedness. I'm so scared if I call you stupid (which is what you really are) that you'll hate me and make everyone else hate me. =("

This is the part of most forums I hate the most. When that kind of thing starts to happen I just log off because it's not worth even reading what they have to say.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why bother brown-nosing someone who doesn't even matter? They're no one important. They're a member of a site and that is it. Who cares if they like you? Concentrate on the real people in your life and making them happy. Not some weirdo (possible pedophile etc) glued to his/her monitor 24/7.

When someone quotes a post and just says Owned, it drives me up the wall. Especially in debates. Members don't need cheerleaders. What really gets me is when it's pretty clear the person hasn't been owned.

You are absolutely right. I have been on several forums where the members would suck up a power hungry mod who practically ran off all of the other mods (FFS), then there are the few sites that got about 6 or 7 staff members who are in one clan, and those sites tend to run out all other clans (Xenocreation). Then there are the ones like here you have trolls (dealt with promply), Lady chasers (Klonoa, Aztec, other...), and your non conformest (Me, Zeria, other).

For me, it all depends on my interest and how well I can "click" with people on forums. I usually can click with people right away once I post around, other times I don't click with people. I haven't been that active around here since my interest for Final Fantasy games kinda have disappeared on me.

Lately though, I have been avoiding another forum mainly because the staff have been too ignorant when it came to certain issues and rules that they don't bother to follow through. Some of them just lurk around the forum and hardly even post at all as well. A few of us had complained about the issues ongoingly but they just keep making up excuses to avoid the problem.

If you disagree with something, they'll type half a book on why you're wrong.
^ Some staff members did that when I had disagreed with them on forums issues on this other forum but it was worse when another staff members jump in and agree with them with another lenghty post just to try shutting us up.

At this point, I don't really care about fitting in or not because considering the people I thought I did click with including the staff, I now lost respect for because of said problems.

I actually forgot I made this thread. :wacky:

These days I only use the EA UK forum, a MGS forum and here, though I don't really post that often.

I like discussing things and debating etc. so forums have always appealed to me, provides new people to talk with when I'm not with anybody. Just seems alot of people take them way too seriously.

Left quite a few forums because of this, just going to stick with the three I'm using now.

Ten years of forum-hopping has given me a number of good and bad experiences. I've met the man of my dreams from a site; I've met the man of my nightmares at another. The first is my boyfriend; the second is my stalker. I've had staffing positions on a dozen forums, sometimes multiple times. I've been banned off sites (including this one) though each time it was due to some outrageous unfairness. I've met so many people and have made lifelong friends.

In regards to FFF, I was here right at the beginning. I was one of the first people staffed on this site. I was also one of the first people who quit staff due to the insanity of the then-owner. I saw hackings, friend fall-outs, made friends, etc. It was quite the experience.

A forum life is in many ways like real life, with its own highs and lows. And while my interests in forum-going has diminished I still value the experiences I've had, both good and bad.

I've noticed that a lot of people generally seem to suck up to the more popular members. However I'm going to disagree with you on the part where you said if one of them dislike someone, the rest will follow. The thing about the internet is that it is pretty rare that you make a really close relationship with anyone, you can still like/dislike people. But at the end of the day, a relationship you make online will very rarely become as strong as a relationship you make in the real world.

This means that it becomes easy to switch between liking and disliking people online. So even though some members may occasionally gang up on people, it is quite rare that this extends beyond a thread...from what I've seen at least.

I agree with you here, although I admit that I find it entertaining when I see them doing what they do best.

Hahaha, yeah we definitely have a few of those here xD

To be honest I think trolls are the most interesting members on forums. The way I see it there are two types of trolls, bad trolls will just say something lame like "FF is SHIT!". Good trolls will post something that looks innocent enough, but is actually designed to anger the rest of the members. Good trolls will often attract the e-warriors and this usually results in an epic e-battle which ultimately ends in lulz.

I go to forums to have fun and have a laugh and the truth is that I find good trolls to be fucking hilarious, they give the forum character. Forums are entertaining as long as you don't take them too seriously in my opinion.
