I do this too much :hmmm:

Eating dinner at your friend's house...

...her animals flock to you like you're Pocahontas.

I always hold the door open also. The worst though is when people dont thank you or acknoledge that you did that for them. I always say your welcome as sarcastically as i can.

I had a very awkward door holding open scenario not too long ago.
I was just leaving the place and there was the quite pretty girl who was about to go in, though I still would have held the door open for her even if she was a mutt. So I push the door and walk through and hold it open, believing that she would walk through. However she did not, she was just going to wait outside. So I stood there for about ten seconds before she realised. There was a very uncomfortable silence then we both tried to talk at once and because neither of us knew what the correct socially polite thing was to say at that point we both stuttered a bit. Also I think part of her discomfort was caused by her belief that I had other motives besides pure altruism for opening the door for her.
Eventually I walked away, but that still continues to haunt me.

Oh Hal, you really are a gentleman. I hate those moments when someone's just slightly too early or too late to open the door for... or in some cases I'd hurried a bit because I thought someone was going to be polite to hold the door, but I end up getting smacked by it instead. Ahh chivalry...

Hal has my sympathy on the door thing.

I also hate those awkward moments when you go to hold the door open for someone, but then they signal that you go should go first. Then after you signal back for them to go first, and they likewise back to you, you eventually go to walk through first just as they do exactly the same... Then the cycle starts again and you are both embarrassed.

:lew: This is the reason I walk when people signal for me to go first, unless it's someone I know, then it's just funny to toss it back, and wait anyway. The first one though, if it's someone you don't know, I learned my awkward lesson when people signal back, it turns in to a 'no, I insist' kind of thing, while you both could've been at your destination by then.

Awwwwkwaaaaaaaaaaaaaard.
