I know final fantasy is a huge success to the gaming world, but I have no idea where all of these fans are because everyone I ask doesnt like that style of game (or at least they wont admit it). So I ask all of you if you have any words of wisdom on what countries and regions of the world contain the most fans of the seris and if the people surrounding you like family and friends play these games. I feel alone when I play these games and perhaps a little judges by people who know I play them. WHERE ARE THE NUMBERS!

haha you do realise you're on a forum with 10 000 final fantasy fans?
and I am assuming Japan has the most final fantasy fans... because well... it was created and first became popular there...

probably because the majority of them dont ever see sunlight and they just sit in their basements looking for new ways to challenge themselves.

I observe that the country I live in is generally indifferent towards final fantasy. roughly 50% of youths of my age know what is final fantasy. The other half is totally clueless. Out of those who know final fantasy, very little actually likes them. Those who have played liked them, but they do not grow fanatic and just get over it.

I am expecting the trend to get worse worldwide. Most younger teens are obsessed with shooter games. Those who actually attempt final fantasy usually only played FFXIII because it's recent. And since this is so, the next generation of youths may label final fantasy as flashy, linear, boring RPG with dull characters and storyline, without knowing its history of much greater titles. So I doubt in a decade's time anyone in the age range of 11-20 years old know what final fantasy is....

hopefully not though.

People move on. This might be a Final Fantasy forum but people still play other games just as much, if not far more than Final Fantasy. The series has passed its peak now, back in the PS1 days and arguably the PS2 games for some Final Fantasy was THE game to own, nowadays there are far better developers and far better franchises. You'll still get a large fanbase and the odd hardcore fan but the whilst people are moving on the series isn't going to attract many more fans with games like Final Fantasy XIII to replace them, certainly western fans anyway.

Depends what you mean? Japan has the most FF fanbase that is a fact. Japan sells the most FF games out of anywhere else in the world.

If your looking for a person that likes every single FF game that ever comes out, well you wont find one I believe cause I dont think think there is a person that liked everysingle one out there.

Me, my bro, almost all of my cousins and couple of my friends are playing FF. We play lots of another games too, it's not like FF is the only game out there.

Lots of ppl thinks the RPG are stupid but they're stupid. RPG games need thinking and planing and lots patience, but lots of those cock suckers can't do that. They only buy their PS3,Xbox or w/e just to brag and they know shit about games.

Dammit, I got carried away >.<

Final Fantasy was cool when Square Enix was Squaresoft. FFXII was acceptable, but personally - when Square Enix decided they wanted to make a bunch of releases to complete one ongoing story console exclusives, I was ready to cut the dead weight.

Kingdom Hearts goes from 3 titles on the PS2, 5 if you count Japan only Final Mix, to 2 DS games and a PSP game. They're still sitting there, with their thumbs up their asses on the Final Fantasy VII Compilation, which in their last installment only made some more fucking worthless plot holes.

FFXIII is probably the biggest pile of shite that I have ever purchased, and I'm done with Square-Enix if they want to waste their time making a Final Fantasy XIII-2.

I'm just not impressed with the company anymore.

Me me, I do...at least for the main, numbered series (and spin-offs) with the exception of XI since that is the exception to the series just like XIV. There isn't a numbered game that I hate (minus XI and XIV, since they are online...). I just like them all to different degrees.

However, I haven't played, nor do I have a desire to play the Crystal Chronicles series. I have played Tactics, but not the Tactics Advanced games.

Hmmm i think it's because people don't want to try FF...... there to busy playing COD or something :O

and yh you do know your posting this on a forum with like 10'000 fans XD

CoD gets annoying after a while. That's all I hear about. CoD this or Halo that. They need to get real games - like FF.

The series is sorta old, so I don't blame people for not being as much of a fan as they were years ago. The only ones I like are VII and VIII.

Lies!! CoD is so awesome and it'll never become boring :gasp2:

The perfect GF is the GF who can play CoD and will lose against her BF even if it's on purpose :mokken:

Let's try and get back on topic please. :)

Japan would obviously be the home of the biggest fanbase for the FF games and the JRPG genre in general - where the JRPG is the dominant genre and has been for many decades since the days of the first Dragon Quest for example. In the west however, the notable decline in popularity of the JRPG genre and the rise of more dominant types of games such as the first-person shooter has been very apparent and you must remember too that there are some cultural differences that reflects what type of games that the two regions enjoy. There is certainly still a sizeable FF fanbase mainly consisting of core FF fans and core JRPG fans in the west, though if you were to look at it now compared to its days following FFVII's release, there would have been a sizeable decline since. This is also reflected in Square Enix's work. FFXIII is so divisive partly because they were attempting to implement a different style of gameplay that would appeal also to gamers not traditionally into the FF games or the genre itself. Perhaps this can help to explain why a number of FFXIII's elements appear to have been inspired by some western action games.

^ This. Just all of this.

SquareEnix are not about making good, decent games anymore. The last one I enjoyed was FF X, when SquareEnix was still basically SquareSoft. Now all they care about is making things look pretty, and money. No basically, all they care about is money. Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy both used to be a solid series, and now they are just confusing, and a bit of a joke. SquareEnix's answer to improve everything is to 'make another sequel ". Yeah, like that will fix things SE.
:ahmed:

Where are all the FF fans ? They are all in 2002, they are all in the past. Enjoying FF X and FF IX all over and again and not worried about the future.

CoD gets annoying after a while. That's all I hear about. CoD this or Halo that. They need to get real games - like FF.

However, Square-Enix would do well to take a leaf out of Infinity Ward's and Treyarch's book as to why they are far better developers than SE. Although people who dislike CoD call in generic or have never played it, there's a reason it's consistently the top selling game year in-year out and the best selling game of all time. The developers make significant changes to each game but keep the basics throughout every title, Square-Enix however make wholesale changes from top to bottom like they did with Final Fantasy XII and XIII and both were poor games. They won't get anywhere if they keep trying to change too much every game.

You quote yourself in your signature. Wow.

I still don't see how XII was a poor game. I don't get all the hate at all. I'd really like to sit down with someone and compare notes on the subject, because it's my favorite out of the bunch and I think I have some worthwhile defenses.

XIII's flaws are obvious, at the very least, a lot more obvious than XII's. XIII's flaws hit you as soon as you start the game, and don't let up until around 40 hours. And even then, they never really get fixed.

But anyway. I don't think Square Enix is declining, per se. There's a definite drop in quality in their latest big budget releases, but if you look at the review scores and overall fan response to the PSP games, they've all been pretty positive. Crisis Core is a worthwhile game, PSP or otherwise. Birth By Sleep was a great entry to the Kingdom Hearts series and a great game all around. Even though I despise the idea of all these smaller games, it's hard to deny the quality of the titles. Sure, I'd rather just have Kingdom Hearts 3, but I would have missed out on a great story if they decided to skip Birth By Sleep altogether. Sure, I wouldn't have missed the story if they hadn't ever made it, but I didn't have to buy the game either. I chose to buy it and it was a good purchase, simple as that.

What needs to happen is a big change in the way they conduct their business. Everyone from Square Enix needs to come together and work collectively on bigger titles. If they stopped spreading themselves thin, I guarantee they could make amazing games. They don't have to push out 15 games in a year, like they've been doing. Just work on them one or two at a time. They run into problems when they try to please everybody, make lots of games, and spread themselves thin. That's why I'm glad they're taking their time on Versus XIII, so at least it has a solid chance of being good.

And wow, I talked so much and never got to the topic. Um, well, I'm a Final Fantasy fan. But it's hard to be one at the moment. Give it time, Square Enix will eventually get better or get worse, as that is the nature of things. If they get better, great, if they don't...move on to another series.

I know people who never played the ff series in the past, who now tried out FF13 or are/were interested to try FF13 out.

Fanbase is still there.

Nostalgic fan base is still around. New fan base (ff13) is small. Combined its the whole fanbase.

Its just getting dull talking about FF while most of us has said more than enough about the games.

Still many handheld FF titles out there that seem to score big. FFVersus could attract even more than FF13.

Its still not dead.

I think it's becoming more each game has its fan base over the whole series.

You got the FFVII fanbase
The Classics (I-VI)
and ext.

Yes many as a whole like the series, but I think people have picked one or two games that they really like and have said "this is what Final Fantasy should be." When really each game is a new game itself. The games might of sold less over the years, but remember, when XII came out, PS3 was here or nearly here, that and it still hit top 10 ps2 games sold. Even FFXIII is on the top selling list for the PS3.

Because they haven't made a good final fantasy since final fantasy 10. I'm not picky I like a lot of the final fantasy games such as 10,9,7,6,and 4 is a classic however 12 was a terrible game I've never been so bored playing a video game. I kept telling myself that the story was going to get better and I would start to care about it and then I just got to bored with it. FF13 I haven't tried but I haven't heard a lot of good stuff about it. For Example No villiages WTF? I hope that 15 is decent but I doubt it.
Most Final Fantasy fans either like old school games or FFVII. However I'm one of the ones that liked 10 and 9 the most. However I don't know if 12 and 13 really have a person that says thats their favorite.

I personally feel like as long as I am a dedicated Final Fantasy fan, it doesn't really matter to me if other people around me played it or not. I know that there are other people out there in the world who play, and using forums like this, we can communicate with each other :)
Also, I have not come across a single Final Fantasy game made by Squaresoft or the latter, Square Enix, that was disappointing. They all had their pros and cons and even with the FFXII implementation of an active RPG, it was nevertheless an awesome game.
FFXIII was also a nice success to me .. so if you ask me, I will love any game they make regardless.
