Failing Tests

Got a D on my latest Calc II test. I feel like a total idiot especially after knowing someone else got over a hundred percent. Right now I think I feel either really angry, really depressed, or just really stupid, so yeah.

What do you guys feel when you get/or got bad grades for tests and classes and the like?
 
Calc is hard, man. Don't let it get to you. Some people fucking own at math, and some don't. I sure as shit don't. :hmph:

I really never let it bother me. I just remember to do much better next time, and I study up a bit, and lay off the booze. Then, everything gets (usually) better, and I'm off to take the next one. Cheer up, you'll be fine. :grin:
 
I think one of the worst things about a test is the fact that you're judging your outcome before you already start, which causes nerves to set in.

I've never been a fan of tests and exams but it's just one of those things you learn to deal with as you go on I suppose.

When I get a bad grade, I think it embarasses me. I feel like i've failed myself in some way wheras if I get good grade i'll probably be in a happy mood for the rest of the day or so. :lew:

It all depends really, you just need to look at it a bit clearer. It's not the end of the world, and if it is say, your last chance to take the test/exam then all you can do is try your best.

Sometimes just knowing you've tried your best is enough.

I despise tests and examinations with a passion.

It seems that no matter how hard I revise for them, I don't seem to be able to get a high result. So as a result, I don't get my hopes up whenever it's results day. It's mostly due to this why I specifically picked a course at university that didn't have any exams.

I'm better at coursework since I can get feedback and improve it.
 
I'm sorry to hear that, Jay. I don't blame you though. I've never tackled calculus myself of course, but I can probably understand just how challenging it is. Still, don't let the grade get to you that badly. As long as you understand where you stumbled at, you can prepare yourself next time, hopefully.

As for me, I usually do get rather upset when I receive below-par grades. I tend to perform rather well in exams - usually straight A's. Therefore whenever I get anything below that it does dampen my mood considerably, even if it's just a B (which does piss off a lot of people who say they would be pleased if they get a B) because that's who I am. :lew:

I always get a bit depressed when I do badly on a test. Apart from when it's a practice one. :hmmm:

My education has always been very high in my list of priorities and when I'm doing well academically, I just feel more fulfilled and can push on towards doing well in other aspects of my life. A social life, for me at least, isn't going to be fulfilling if I'm worrying about my grades and so doing badly does upset me and it trickles down into other aspects of my life. :sad:

Been there, done that. I passed Cal II with a C and I am hell not the happiest man on earth. I plan on retaking the course to improve my grade. Of course, my professor was odd and always seemed to fail to explain stuff in a way we could understand. :hmph:

I swear there must be an organization of math professors who insist on making our lives miserable. No wonder why some people (usually the ones who got a good grade) told me: "Trust the book, not the professor" :brooding:
 
Man calculus is tough, I did pass maths and we did differentiation by first principles and that was it, but in Uni because I'm doing science I have to do pretty high level maths now. So that means Differentiation and Integration too and pretty advanced mathematical operations in each. I know it sucks to get a bad grade but what really matters is if you understand the basic principles and rules, because if you do then the rest is simple enough if you just work at it, so good luck with that I guess.

Personally in exams for years I didn't care less, the way are schooling system worked was exams didn't matter whatsoever until the last year, you could fail anything yo wanted with no consequences other than my parents getting a bit angry. Then in my final year I had exams that dictated what college course I got to do, I really want to be a science teacher and there was a course for that but I was super lazy and didn't put in any effort to get it so I did just normal science instead. The way it works is if I get a first class honour in my third college year I can go on to become a teacher.

Then after failing first year exams in college I barely passed repeats and now am really putting in the work, I've started working from day one and things seem to be going well.

tl;dr version, didn't care about exams till they matters, then still didn't care, failed, got second chance, now I care
 
I've only ever failed one test in my life. I freaked out and had to sit alone for a while before I could go back to classes, and even then I was on the verge of falling apart. I don't deal well with failure. :gonk: I just... A lot of emphasis has always been put on grades and academics in my family, and I got yelled at for anything below an A while I was younger. It's sort of been impressed into me that I need to be a good student. I don't like getting Bs, I consider that bad... god forbid I get a C.
 
Awww man Jay I am so sorry to hear that. Do not let it take your whole life away though. It is only one failed test and Tbh I would do no better :monster: I am so glad I dont eve rhave to take Mathematics in my life again. Dude calculus is fucking hard and I would get an F tbh. As for me when I fail a test I usually become really sad. I get mad alot also if it was a really realy bad grade. I had tough times in Math. Failed a few tests but I passed towards the end cause I worked hard. I generally only fail math and french tests a little. But with Math and science out of the way that only leaves french as my true weakness. If I want to succeed I will have to know french when the time comes to take it again. Overall I hate MATH so much. I am so glad it is done finally.

Hopefully I will not screw up my semesters
 
I've never failed a test ever. Well, aside from a maths mock exam, but that was because I put my name on the paper, did the working out for the first question decided I couldn't be arsed and went to sleep instead. Needless to say, i got a U. I just couldn't be bothered, and I knew it was only a mock exam. I got in some trouble though, as I was in top set :wacky:

Closest Ive ever been to being dissapointed (actually, Im still bitter about it) was getting a B in my final English Language exam. Oooooooh I wasn't happy about that

Oooh I thought I was gunna fail my IT course actually, I was shitting it. In school I wasn't arsed. But this course I was doing, I would have been gutttttttted if I failed. But I was only the 2nd person to pass the final test first try :andry:

I totally understand. I'm almost killing myself just to pass my Algebra. With other subjects I'm pretty good, don't have any problem with exams and everything, but with math, I just hate it. I was never good with numbers, computations and equations. Luckily, I still pass somehow, but it's always the lowest. I remember when I failed an exam even though I reviewed so hard, I was like 'after all that? what a hell?' seriously, what a disappointment. If you see my grade sheet, everything's 1 and when you see math, it's 3. Oh, well better luck next time is what I always say.
 
I really despise tests, period. Not because I did bad in them in school (which I didn't I did really well), but because of how the idea of them is stupid. When you take a test for a class, it should be to test you on how well you learned the subject matter, not how well you can memorize stuff. That's part of the reason I never really studied for tests. I'd take a quick run through of the stuff the test was on, but I wouldn't sit there for a few hours memorizing shit for the test.

Obviously, math tests aren't about how well you memorized stuff, so they are the oddity (I always thought math tests were kinda fun). But for every other class, don't be a lazy ass teacher and barely teach us the subject, then expect us to go through and memorize shit (without really learning it) for your lousy test.

However, when I did bad on tests, I would feel differently depending on the subject. If I truly knew the stuff and just did bad, then I usually felt bad. But if I absolutely had no clue, then I was just like "whatever".

Of course, I'd feel really bad, especially if I find out that I'm one of the few of those who got a bad grade.
But I'm the type of person who would move on and do something about it, so I'd probably maul over my sadness for 3 minutes, then hit the books the next minute.

Exactly what Olivia said. But with the added pressure that my parents always give me right before the tests/exams, and how everybody, including my friends, expects me to get full marks just because I am a 'genius'.
 
Tests have always been easy for me.
I constantly fail classes and marking periods due to homework, but tests are the easiest part of school.
I failed three marking periods of English last year, due to homework.
I just don't do it, I would rather do other things.
She said I needed a fantastic grade on the regents to pass.
Boom.

But a forty percent? Really? That's horrible by anyone's standards. :ffs:
 
After a fail I try to use the experience to find out where I went wrong and better myself. Don't let it get you down, just try and improve for next time!
 
having taken "time out" between school and college to work in a job that i hated and thoroughly miss the delights of education i tend to try harder than most folk in my classes (or it seems that way anyway) and if i ever did badly i think i'd be quite hard on myself. and despite past success in assessments and exams im never confident that i'll ever pass let alone get a good grade though i always seem to pull through somehow.

i do...try to prepare as much as i can without boring myself to death but i'm always negative about the result so if/when i get a good grade its a nice surprise. dont be too hard on yourself jay. all that maths pish is complicated and baffling.:mokken:
