A representative from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed that the "Prologue" chapter for Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy will be released in the West ahead of the release of the Final Fantasy fighter sequel in a post on the official Playstation Blog.

Responding to a fan question in the comments about if and when the Dissidia "Prologus" chapter would be available on the European Playstation Store. Responding was Ross McGarth, part of the Playstation Store team in Europe.
His response confirmed both a US and EU release, saying "the Prologus will be out at the same time as the US (at least that’s the date I have)."

The Prologus was released in Japan during the Square Enix 1st Production Department Premiere. It allows fans to take control of several of the chahracters from the final version of the game and fight through a chapter that leads up to the opening of the final version of Dissidia.

Those who play the Prologus chapter will carry their level, items and other bonuses over to the final game but also unlock a major exclusive bonus - Final Fantasy VII's Aerith. She won't be playable, but will be selectable as an 'Assist' character who appears in battle and performs a single action to aid you. She'll only be available in Dissidia to those who played Prologus.

Prologus cost 300 Yen in Japan - essentially amounting to a paid demo with some original story content. It's not too bad, mind - that only comes out at around £2.50 or $4. #

Check out the Dissidia render of Aerith below, and remember you can see all the other
trailers and gameplay videos, artwork and screenshots from Dissidia 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy over in the Media Vault.

As glad as I am to hear this...that's frickin' creepy, I just said to Virgil on MSN that we better get Duodecim's Prologue, then literally a few seconds after, this thread was made xD

But I am glad to hear this :ryan: It's made my saturday. Finally a taster of what's to come, I just wish they made Tifa playable on this Prologue. :gonk:

Classic SE - we release something worth nothing, but will charge you whole fortune for it. And you will pay, pay, pay.

This is nice to hear I guess. Good to know that I can get Aerith in the game after playing prologus. Sucks I will not be able to use Yuna in prologus though. Oh well the game isnt that far off anyway. Aerith is kinda cheap though as she can make you invincible.

Hmm...well, if we're getting the thing the same time as the US, that gives me hope that the release date for the actual game won't be that far off from the US one...despite the fact that they've taken off the ability to pre-order from Amazon. I daresay I'll buy it, if only to see if I actually want to get the full game or not...

My understanding is that the Prologus also includes the Aerith-Assist DLC, so that probably accounts for the actual cost. I might grab it, but I dunno...I can wait for the actual game, but still... xD

Not really sure if I'm going to get this... I mean... is it worth it? How long is the prologue, is it crucial to the story?

It contains an opening to Duodecim as well as Arcade Mode. You will also be able to use Aerith as an Assist in the game when it is released.

I'm not sure if this opening will be the in the main game, but if you don't really want Aerith as an Assist, I wouldn't bother.

sweet :D at last i get to undestand the characters :D soooo buying :D

Well, taking onboard factors such as the inclusion of Aerith as a support character and transferrable stats over to the main game itself, I can probably see why they've put a price tag on it. £2.50 - if that is the price, or a similar one - doesn't sound too bad for this sort of thing I suppose. It's still nothing that really interests me though. I'd just go straight for the main game.

When does Prologus come out? I want to use Aerith as an assist. Also could we download Dissidia's data to Prologus or does it have to be Duodecim?

The only real draw for me is the data transfer, I spent countless hours on my characters, not losing it because of a new game :mokken: Aerith doesn't really matter to me tbh :wacky:

So you have to ha this Prologus data to activate the transfer of Dissidia 1 data to Dissidia Duodecim?.............thats bullshit! that doesnt sound right to me:hmmm:

^ I don't think so. It would be really strange to need a demo to facilitate the data transfer for Dissidia to Duodecim. I'm pretty sure you just need the save data of the last game.

I have no idea where the idea came from that you need Prologus to transfer the original Dissidia data to Duodecim but whatevs.

You don't need Prologus to transfer the data, the only difference it'll really make to the main game is the addition of Aerith as an Assist. They haven't announced anything else about Prologus that'll effect the main game. The game will contain an introduction to the story where you play as Lightning with WoL as an Assist and an Arcade Mode with an Easy and Hard Mode avaliable with the following as playable characters:

Lightning, Kain, Kefka, WoL, Jecht, Garland, Sephiroth and Cloud as an unlockable character
