[26/12] FFX-3? Kazushige Nojima certainly seems to want to make it.

Tidus Returns: Final Fantasy X? FFX-0 with Braska, Jecht and Auron? FFX-3 with some random new characters/scions of the familiar main characters from the first two games?

Kazushige Nojima, scenario writer for FFX and FFX-2, as well as the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology and a certain little vapourware game called FFXV, wants to see Final Fantasy X-3 happen.

Thus spake Nojima in the HD Remaster Ultimania that accompanied the newly-released FFX|X-2 HD Remaster game in Japan: “If demand [for a sequel] is delivered, there could be new developments".

FFX|X-2 HD Remaster features an audio novelette titled Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~The Eternal Calm~ which takes place following the events of X-2 and is penned by Nojima as well. That alone proves how much the man wishes to push along with the creation of yet another return to Spira.

Nova Crystallis

EDIT:

Can someone verify to me what this says?

For everyone else, take this with a whole shaker of salt.

To be honest I am NOT totally opposed to this idea! Though at the same time I get nervous as well, depending on how they spin it.
FFX is a great story that I think can span a few video games though.

I have to say I'd absolutely love to go back to the world of Spira because it really was one of the better FF worlds for me. I'd rather have a story set in the distant past than one in the future. I'd also rather have characters who are completely new to us. I think having a story set before the Machina war would be amazing, to see the world the way it was before all the cities were destroyed by Sin and see how things worked between the summoners and the governments back then would be equally cool.

I do not want to comment on the actual spoilers since I want to see that myself when I play the HD versions. X-3 seems very possible based on what the drama will hold. You just do not introduce new characters without a reason and then just do not make a sequel. SE will make this in the very near future.

Oh, FFXV will likely have another delay for another 5 years because of this.

Are there new characters being introduced? I thought the drama thing was just Tidus and folks giving a sort of epilogue.

Yup. See the sketches above. Above Tidus and Yuna are the two new characters.

The girl is Chuami. She claims to be Auron's daughter.

The boy is Kurugum. He's the scion of a Summoner family, only his job nowadays seems to be Sending. Has the hots for Yuna.

NOTE: Spellings likely to change. It's just how translators have romanised the kanji at the moment.

I knew their names but I did not read anything much. These two new characters need to have a bit of an explanation. Sometimes a game with unknown characters is nice, but only if you find out whom they are much later on. I can see the whole Tidus and Yuna split having a large impact on a potential story.

Did you get this info from the leaked drama or translations above?

if focuses on an entirely new cast (loooks like its a gender reverse of tidus and yuna) then I'm all for it.

This possible sequel looks like it has the pootential to make up for the bad story of FFX2 while still staying true to the original. If only SE thought of a whole new cast for ffx2 instead of retconning Yuna's persona into a pop idol.

I think all of us could've forgiven ffx2 if it was like that. So maybe ffx3 has a chance of focusing on a new cast (and ending this Sin issue once and for all)

If anyone's still interested, the Japanese in the image is something about the speaker and Kurugumu in the Bevel Stadium. I don't know the Kanji, so beyond that my Japanese skills are no help :(

I think FFX-0 would be totally cool, but I fear it wouldn't feel like it was set in the same universe. Unless XV is as awesome and well written as I hope it will be, I think some firing and/or disciplinary needs to be done before they even make an attempt, otherwise they'll just piss all over it, making characters cliche, vague and have a badly written script full of cryptic drama. And the game would be narrow as fuck, and look and feel rushed. With those issues avoided like the plague, I think it would have the potential to make a lot of people feel satisfied.

But I still disagree with people saying X-2 was bad, at all. Sure it was cheesy, but cheesy is nicer than vague, dull and annoying. It was an aesthetically beautiful game and basically gave the story a happy ending, making the player feel great throughout the game despite maybe being a little embarrassed watching Real Emotion. But even then! The logo transition was well timed with the events that happened in the intro; the intro that ties in with the story if you play some of the side-missions. The game wasn't completely necessary, no, but they knew what they were doing and gave it a lot of thought. I think the good ending was perfect, gave people happy feels and generally directed its message smoothly. The only thing that bothered me was that I wouldn't have known about the good ending if I didn't read about it elsewhere. It felt like they gave people a bit of a disappointment intentionally with the normal ending because they wanted people to get and fully appreciate the good ending, similar to how Streets of Rage III makes you experience all the creepy bad endings by being difficult as fuck, before you finally get the good ending and your heart warms up.

I think an X-3 would be risky, because at least we know with prequels they're filling in the gaps of characters' already existing backstories. With the rumours I've heard about a possible X-3 happening, I get the feeling someone with the creativity of an angry ten year old has made a fan-fiction and submitted it to Square, where-as X was a 1000 page book created by an experienced writing genius on LSD.
