Wait, we just heard the collective response from every single Final Fantasy fan on earth: "It damn well better be."

We have a small update on the progress of Final Fantasy X HD, which is supposed to come to both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

According to Gematsu citing a German magazine, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase said the HD version is still early in development, but the team wants to "ensure that the remake will have the same quality as the original." It's interesting that Kitase used the German word "neuauflage," which translates to "remake," "new edition," or "new issue." We've all heard rumors about how FFX HD will use the FFXIII engine and all the major graphical elements (from character design to Aeons) will be redone from scratch. ...which of course would be totally awesome, wouldn't it?

Well, do what you want. But you had best stick to that part about keeping the quality the same; i.e., don't touch the gameplay. A beautiful new HD sheen; that's all we want. Think you can handle that, S-E?

^I agree with you entirely, Stevie. That's pretty much all I could ever ask for...(Okay, the game would be a lot better without Wakka, but I guess I can stand him for another run through of FFX :P)!

Fleur do you mind correcting the date in the title for me :) i failed XD

No. It wouldn't be.

Randomly remaking titles, idiotic. "Yes, out new busies strategy - let's focus all our attention and manpower on some completely random remake of a game that not requires one. That of course would be totally awesome, wouldn't it?"

No. It wouldn't be.

Then why in the name of giant Sin whales was it announced so early then, if the game is still supposedly early in development? Or is SE that desperate to give the people something - anything - to look forward to while the nonexistent Versus is still somewhere in limbo?

I have one consolation at least. Let the FFX/FFXIII team get busy with this, so they can stay out of doing another big project FF game in the near future. If I had a say, I would never let them go anywhere near a new project again after the disgrace that was FFXIII and what I am currently seeing: a poorly-written, mess of a fanfic (almost) called FFXIII-2.

Well this is good news. Hopefully they keep there word, all I want is HD graphics and nothing changed. Well actually I liked FFXIII with seeing monsters in the open instead of random battles. I wouldn't mind seeing that. But if not I'm alright with that, wakka, and the sphere grid returning.

They had better not change the battle system! The turn-based system and Sphere Grid were perfect. :ness:

If they re-render the cutscenes, I am gonna HAVE to download this. :O I'd love to see my favourite in the series transformed into an experience that's as visually stunning as FFXIII! For a modern audience, the in-game cutscenes (the roughest) really do lack that fine quality. The characters look rather like freaky dolls. :hmmm:

I'm gonna be highly disappointed if the cutscenes aren't re-rendered. Although it might really alter the feel of the game to me seeing the famous kiss scene any different. But still I hope they are re done and are same quality as FFXIII. Big hopes and high expectations for this remake.

Dont count on this to be pushed to the max. This will probably be just another one of them brush ups.
Still looking forward to it.

I'll be mega-disappointed if it's just an HD upscale from the original. Because you could tell when they were using high quality or low quality versions of each character's models... and the "extra soldiers" at the wedding scene... (You know what I'm talking about) better be remastered and I hope to god they at least use the high quality character models at all times instead of just in certain close-up shots in cutscenes :|

I am ok if they want to add more content, and back story. Not sure how I would feel if they changed a storyline or some element of the plot.

That being said, I am intrigued and will probably end up getting it.

p.s. unlocking the ultimate weapons is a HUGE pain in the ass, hopefully I wont feel the need to since I have previously done that or they make it easier.

Talk about wasting money and time on remaking a game that doesn't need it.

This'll cost $39.99 or more, for sure, if they're doing a remake.

Why don't they just do an upscale and charge 14.99 or 19.99 like everyone else?

I'm honestly looking quite forward to the remake(or rehash) of X. Would they add more content to the game though??? Maybe something fairly slight, like another super/ secret boss of some sort. I would like to see the ulitmate weapon quests/ Aeon quests stay in the remake as is: I found it gave me a determination to go through with them (lightning bolts are bastards)

One thing I'm not looking forward to is the infamous "laughing" scene... First time I'd ever felt like a tool watching a game... Still, a HD version of Ifrit, Bahamut and Anima is going to be awesome, for me.

I thought it was obvious. Announcing it early = More Rabid fans throwing their money down for more SE Games to make them hurry the hell up.

And I was under the impression that with a recent policy they brought in, announcements and disclosed information on upcoming games wouldn't be given out as quickly. So I interpreted that as the executives eager not to repeat what they did for Versus again by announcing it a while before any real production work had even started on it.

So to learn that this apparent FFX "remake" is still in its early stages of development in relation to the above puzzled me a bit, but yeah, I guess to deliberately stoke the nostalgic fans up is a reasoning behind it. And I do agree with the notion that a (rumoured) graphical re-rendering using the Crystal Tools engine is...pointless. But if it keeps Toriyama busy, then so be it.

I find it interesting that there are so many conflicting comments on a HD remake of FFX. I mean a game company finally decided to do a proper HD remake of a game many people loved. Most PS2 games are getting the "Upscale and call it a day" treatment, we're getting something much more refined.

Yes they could screw things up a bit, but they could also give a game it's proper due. I hope for the latter.

Wrong, again. It is obviously not idiotic or random.

a) It's a well known FACT in the gaming industry that remaking games is a low cost-high profit business if the game sell even remotely well.

b) Final Fantasy X was almost certainly chosen for the remaster/remake because it is a popular title in the franchise and sold well.

c) It won't take a lot of man power because they're not developing the game from scratch. The foundations are already there.

d) Nor is a 'new business strategy', Final Fantasy have time and time again been remade, it's also popular amongst other developers too.

Really looking to get this when it releases for PlayStation 3, so I sure hope that it'll be as high in quality as the original. If I still had a PS2 to play FFX on, I'd be playing it as we speak.

Any word on when this will come to PS3 / Vita?
