Ok, I'm gonna be off-topic here, but I'd rather a Link to the Past remake, with graphics of OoT 3D at least. That's my idea of a game that would do extremely well if remade. Imagine that boss that is a girl until the end of the dungeon :eek:

As for the idea of FF8/9 being remade: the graphics are much better in those 2 than in ff7 and that's why I reckon 7 should be remade first. Besides, the game that most people want a remake of should be remade before the others...that's just common sense. The order doesn't matter seeing as all the ff games are completely different from each other story wise...although that pic that Fleur posted is always gonna stick with me :gasp:

There are actually talks about the next 3DS remake being A Link to the Past, actually. I'd be very interested in seeing it, to be honest.

I totally disagree. The order does make sense even though the games are not connected. They cant remake 9 first and FF7later or FF8 later they are still numbered and hold a spot in the series. In line.

That sounds a lot like OCD to me ;) . While there are tiny little things that continue on from each FF to the next, I don't really think they are the sort of things that would matter if you hadn't seen the origin of them. I mean, seeing as they've already remade 3 and 4 completely, they can't really care about the order anyways. Who knows which will be remade next (if any...but I'm sure there will be another remake knowing SE).
 
No more remakes please? I agree with Se that unless they can top ALL previous FF games they shouldnt bother remaking it, as of late they must convince people that they can recover from their latest shitty tittles.
 
I like that people keep saying "no more remakes please, focus on new stuff" when SE even knows and acknowledges.. "Hey, our new stuff is pretty shit. Why would you want that?" I mean REALLY, why would you want that? On the one hand, I kind of agree that they should focus, and I mean REALLY focus and devote time to one game, not split the company into divisions and work on several at a time.. really spend the time on one game and make it good.. no, brilliant.

If they can't do that (and apparently they can't), what's wrong with going back to the basics and doing what they know? Take what they've learned with pretty graphics, and apply it to an oldie but a goodie? I DO think that they should remake the old FF's 5-9, especially since 10 is getting the remaster treatment, and all before 5 have gotten several ports/remasters. What's the harm in that?
 
Only one person has said this. He may not be speaking for the whole company. Either way, we got a satisfying answer to overall why we dont have remakes. And for the record: ff1-6 have been remade and ported alot specifically ff1 and ff2. However those are 2D sprites and easy for SE to make. They're not sacrificing anytime making those.

Ffx-present have satisfying graphics, they dont need to be remade. however SE believes it needs to be remastered.

Ff1 and ff2 were also remade completely. However they didnt change their design. Ff3 and ff4 were redesigned in 3D. Thats mainly what ff7 fans want. A redesign of the original.

And yes i believe they should care about current games. You make it look like theres someone opposing you. I mean why repeat the same thing over and over as it was a debate?
 
That was Yoichi Wada, the president of the company. I think he does speak for everyone? If not, a very large everyone.

FF's 1 and 2 have been ported and remade for the GB, DS and PSP. 3 got an original remake (since we never really got it here to begin with) for the DS and looks like now, PSP. 4 got GB, DS and PSP remakes.. and proper remakes with cut scenes and voice actors.

5 and 6 got ported to the GB... and that's where it ends for them. I would like to see get the same treatment as 4 either for the DS or PSP.

What you are asking is a redesign. And lets face it the only ones that do deserve that are he playstation era where their 3D characters and akward cgi. The rest always get remade (not redesigned) sticking to the same 2D sprites. And the only exception are ff3 and ff4 but hopefully they could make ff5 and ff6 with the 3D sprites the nintendo DS has.
 
Let's face it: no matter what Square Enix do, they're going to royally fuck it up. Better to have them fuck up something new that was a lost cause to begin with than a fan favourite that will give these fans yet ANOTHER thing to endlessly whine and preach about. You'd think after all these years with repeated failures and worse people would heed the "be careful what you wish for" saying.

Who even cares what they do anymore? We all know what the outcome is going to be; it's as certain as the fact that we're all going to die someday, and equally as bleak. When they're not releasing crap, they're jerking their fans off/around (delete as appropriate) about remakes and remasters of old games that they made in their "better" days that wouldn't stand a chance in hell when competing with the likes of Xenoblade Chronicles and those other JRPGs on the market currently that have moved beyond the stuffy archaic formula and progressed the genre. Remakes are terrible things, because they highlight just how redundant and mediocre these "classic" games are. Well, I like them for showing up these stupidly over hyped games, but that's about the only reason.

This entire topic is pointless. These games were all second rate when compared to other JRPGs of the time anyway. They just got rave reviews and raving fans.

I'm one of the ones who says no to any remakes, and yes to the future games like Versus XIII and XV. But you have a point. Unless they get better the future of FF may just be crap. But when I say 'focus on the future' I mean REALLY Focus. I really feel like they half assed things with XIII and XIII-2. Maybe that has to do with having 20 different games that they're working on? I don't know. Maybe they shouldn't be trying to focus on so many games at once. Plus a remake would add even more to their plate which they don't need. At all.

I really don't see the point in any remakes at all.

its just how you guys are seeing it. We wantt a remake, you dont. However you see it "we dont want one ever because i want these games now"


And i know you all can understand why someone would want a remake even when you say you dont.

It's not just Versus XIII, etc. It's the fact that if they made a remake of VII it will NEVER LIVE UP TO YOUR MEMORY OF IT. The fans will be disappointed because SE is not capable of remaking FFVII and DOING IT RIGHT. This is what the article is all about, and it's the truth.

If you want them to make a remake of one of your favorite games and have them fuck it up, then you're a lousy fan of the game to begin with. Any true FFVII fan would be begging SE to NOT remake the game considering the quality of FFs they've come out with since X. I'm not even the biggest fan of FFVII, and even I don't want that to happen!

One, the only way they can screw it up if they change and remove aspects of the old one. Dont talk for ff7 fans if you think being a true ff7 means hate SE more to not want one.

Two. Its not about reliving the memory. Its having a new one.
 
Im a FF7 fan and I DONT WANT A REMAKE, for this reasons:

-SE isnt in shape to give justice to this game, they will just fuck it up.
-The gameplay is too classy for this generation, i bet they will try to "Remaster" the gameplay and again they will fuck it up.
- Awful voice acting will ruin the overall experience.

If you really are a FF7 fan you will make like most fans do: Play the original game.
If not i have doubts of your status as a FF7 fan.
 
I dont think so. Though yes, turn based. And honestly...i cant see them screwing it up. Since when have they screwed up a remake?
 
I don't understand why people have such firm beliefs in saying that SE will screw up a remake. SE has proven that they screw up new games.. New games have nothing to do or dont even compare to old games. As far as I can tell, they've done a fine job of the oldies, basically revamping the graphics and adding voices to new characters. We've also seen a lot of these characters grow and interact thanks to Dissidia.

It wouldn't be perfect, I'm not delusional to think it ever could be. But I don't think it would be awful. Terrible voice acting? The majority of the VA's have captured their characters pretty spot on in all the Comp titles (with the exception of Aerith who they had forgotten was a spunky girl and kept playing up the innocent angel card). But through the titles, they've brought together a sound cast who would do the game justice.

It wouldn't be perfect, no. But I don't think SE would screw the game up either. With a goldmine that VII had proven to be, they would want to make it as perfect as possible, and that would mean following the original to a T, with some inclusions for retcons, voices, graphics, incomplete portions. Why would the game play need an overall? It was perfectly fine.

At the time yes but now it would be considered as a archaic gameplay system. Turn Based has lost its charm and now all has to be flashy.

Those remakes were aided to Old FF fans than new the series, while i bet Most people knows what a FF7 is witouth even have played the game and SE will use its popularity to sell and at the same time "Revamp" the gameplay to fit this generation standards, Is like in XIII, Do they really needed to turn espers into motorcicle and the like? It was to atract more people than pure FF fans.

If SE wants to prove me wrong then remake a PS1 FF like 8 or 9, if its quality its good then by all means do it otherwise imskeptical.
