[h=1]Square Enix teams up with Mobage for a new Final Fantasy Tactics[/h] A new Final Fantasy Tactics game sounds like just the thing to perk up the struggling Square Enix. That’s what’s happening in Japan, although it’s probably not the Final Fantasy Tactics you’re hoping for.
Square Enix just put up a website for Final Fantasy Tactics S on its Japanese website. It doesn’t have a lot of details, but we can infer a few things. First, it has a mobile-phone icon in the bottom right of the page. Second, it has developer Mobage listed right at the top of the page.
Mobage is the developer responsible for lucrative mobile collectible-card games Rage of Bahamut and Marvel War of Heroes. We’ve reached out to Square Enix to ask for details about this game, and we’ll update with its response.
It’s likely that this is a casual take on the Tactics franchise designed around free-to-play and in-app purchases. That is Mobage’s specialty.
Final Fantasy Tactics first debuted on the PlayStation in 1998. It is a turn-based strategy series that focuses on small skirmishes with highly specialized characters. Beloved sequels eventually hit the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS in 2003 and 2008, respectively.
We’ll have more on this as it develops, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up if you’re a fan of the classic titles.

Mobage is a scam! They are massively encouraging players to pay for packs and what not!
You do not pay? You will not enjoy.

So it'll be for mobile? Bloody hell Square...I wish they'd stop with that crap. I'd like a new Tactics game, but I'll never play it on the mobile, so it'd be nice if it at least came to the 3DS e-store or...something :hmmm:

Make a Tactics game for the 3DS?!!

That's crazy talk. Imagine the risks! Imagine the money that can potentially go down the loo when they're already flushing money down the loo as we speak! Why would they possibly dedicate effort and money on a brand new 3DS Tactics game (especially when filthy western baka gaijins will probably not be rushing out to buy it in droves)? Why do anything other than a (freemium?) social mobage game with little actual game content where the ability and potential to vacuum up even more money via IAPs from naive and gullible players far eclipses that of a handheld game?! Why not do a social mobage game when they're the ones consistently, and at an expanding rate, giving SE more monies?

Think, people! Think!

Ahh... Another mobile game. Yay hoo? :jeri:

Sucks though. I'd like to play a tactics game, but playing games on a phone just doesn't feel right to me (unless it's Tetris). I'd much rather have it on a console that has actual buttons. Not virtual buttons on a screen.

This will probably make them a lot of money. So hooray for them. Honestly. Meh.....

What the hell? How far are they willing to go in an attempt to ruin what was once an all around amazing series? Turning Tactics into a mobile game is definitely not a smart move. I'm getting tired of Ivalice spin-offs with tiny tactics sprites. It'd just be nice if they made a serious tactics game for 3DS as the lack of plot in the last game was already stretching it a bit. The quality of the Tactics games were already diminishing, I just hope this is yet another spin-off and not where the series is actually heading.

woooo, a mobile game that will demand a £20 price tag and £10 dlc packs and arrives on android 10 months later..... sooo excited
