Square Enix Europe has today released a new trailer in english for final fantasy XIII-2, showing lightning and Caius fighting it out in battle... this was at first leaked via a french claiming that it the opening of the game... but i'm not sure.. the video will be in a spoiler just incase :)

I'm not sure I'd classify this as a trailer, but I very much like what they've done in this video! The action's looking pretty good! :) Part of me wonders whether there will be side-quests in which you play Lightning, similar to those in Final Fantasy VIII with Laguna. :hmmm:

Its all CGI.
Could be the opening yes.
Lightning this Lightning that, but its all void if Lightning is not even playable..if.
Same thing for the logo.
Caius kills Lightning? Someone has to win right...on second thought I dont think it could be the opening it doesnt make sense. Either Lightning dies or Caius retreats or Lightning faked her dead somehow etc..

Anyways SE should make Lightning playable or its all a facade.

Correct, that's the opening of the game, but it is heavily cut. There are obviously missing scenes.

Lightning is only playable at some parts in the game. People will be 'stuck' as Noel, Serah, 150 monsters and guests for most of the game.

Light spoilers:

No lightning didn't die by the end of this video most likely. She's just supposed to stay in Valhalla, like forever? So she can't help Serah and Noel in the real world too frequently.

I liked the trailer, though there are some things I just can't get past.

The dialogue during the trailer irks me. It's not the quality of the voice acting (which is okay at best), but it's just that the dialogue present in the trailer takes away from the whole experience. I can't get immersed in the action, while hearing those cheesy one-liners from Caius. Though I do commend Lightning for not speaking while she was fighting, those grunts were very annoying and repetitive. It most likely sounds better in Japanese, but I think they should cut the dialogue out in this opening.

wow, that guy just KO'ed the Shiva sisters. well, the game looks great, not quiet sure how to interpret that. Lightning on Odin looked great, charging towards the chap in the black.

loving the looks of the CGI, very clear and smooth, beautiful work by SE as always, can't wait to play this game, although i really should complete FFXIII before i buy and play this or i will be completely lost as last i heard the characters of XIII were either going to become monsters or crystals, so yea, must do that before XIII-2. I just hope it's better than FFX-2

Caius' giant wandering comet husks can find a home in me anytime :kinky:
His character design and his voice actor really are too good for this poor excuse for a video game. His presence in XIII-2 is like Solid Snake's presence in Super Smash Bros. Brawl: you just think "WTF?" when you see it, even if you do think it's totally awesome.

I've seen part of this trailer before, though. It was released on the PS2 years ago.
Caius might have shinier meteors now, but he definetely had better dialogue and background music back then.

I'm not a fan of Caius's dialogue. I know lines like "embrace the terror" are meant to make him sound very intimidating, but it's generic as heck and rather corny to listen to. In fact, the same goes for much of the dialogue in this game and in its predecessor. The writing so far just feels so tired.

Then again, why the heck am I nitpicking on dialogue? It's not like JRPGs are well known for having good dialogue anyway, and corny dialogue is actually one of their staples, though with FF12 being a good exception.

Yep, I can truly see why the opening starts like this. Square Enix want to get players "into the action quickly" They thought it would be a good idea for everyone to see the villain right away, and have Lightning cross swords with him. In XIII, it was kinda different. You did not get to see Dysley right away, but you heard his voice. I guess they wanted to change things around a bit. Normally, rpgs are more interesting when they do NOT show any bad guys at the beginning. Caius can be the final boss for all we know, but in different forms. Unless he pulls a Count Dooku, and leaves like a coward. He is immortal, so he may not die till XIII-3.
