Dengeki wasn’t the only Japanese magazine with a look at Square Enix’s recently discussed Final Fantasy games. Famitsu’s got a look at Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Final Fantasy Type-0, as well.

Famitsu’s look on XIII-2 and Type-0 didn’t really provide any new information not seen in Dengeki. Their look at Versus XIII, on the other hand, filled in a few holes. They can be seen listed below (via Andriasang).
  • Your characters in Versus will not have jobs. However, your enemies will include dragon knights (or dragoons if you prefer) and summoners.
  • There is a summoning element to the game.
  • Your weapon selection will include: swords, axes, spears/lances, hand guns, machine guns, rifles, bazookas, and shot guns. This is just a partial list, though.
  • The Ignis character (the guy with the glasses) is good with assist-style attacks. He can toss knives at enemies.
  • The character with the scar on his face uses a fighting style. He can make use of a pile bunker and broad sword.
  • The blonde character is a gunner.
  • The game will have positional damage elements for attacking enemies.
  • Larger enemies will have weak points.
  • The game does not have team attacks for your party members.
  • You can combo your attacks across character changes — that is, you can keep your combo going when you switch the character you’re currently controlling.
  • You can bring party members back to life if they die. The only exception is Noctis. If he dies, the game is over.
  • The difficulty is being set towards the high end.

Ohgawd, not another game where the party leader's life is priority :gonk: I was hoping they'd bin that.

That aside, i'm liking the majority of everything else, though I hope that the weapon list isn't an indication that guns>swords etc for quantity :hmmm:

Indeed if Noctis dies why the hell is the game over/...
That is a major let down..I mean come one Noctis is not like the supreme lord of the game..or is he? :britt:

SIGH>

Hey Liv, the forum lag was what apparently killed my thread, so I guess it needs to be deleted :/

Anyways :monster:

I guess this information isn't the greatest info...info we could piece together from the trailer. It seems like they are being very selective about what information they give us now. Still I'm wondering how summons are going to come into play with this game...i.e. is each character going to have a specific summon? Hopefully they don't purposely kill the summon idea like they did in XIII.

I'm also loving how Ignis can toss knives...I think thats pretty bad-ass :wacky:
I'm surprised Gladiolus is going to be a weapon fighter since I thought I heard somewhere that he was going to fight with his fists. Then I saw the trailer and he was fighting with a broad sword.

Its going to be nice to have a challenging Final Fantasy since XIII...

You can bring party members back to life if they die. The only exception is Noctis. If he dies, the game is over.

:hmph: He better be have a super defence stat with a lot of HP. But the game being over if he dies......

Noctis must have a great importance in the game if the game is over if he dies......Bit like how Yuna had a great importance and all characters were her guardian.

Your characters in Versus will not have jobs. However, your enemies will include dragon knights (or dragoons if you prefer) and summoners.

We have to kill summoners? there must be more in this game if thats the case :hmmm:

Your weapon selection will include: swords, axes, spears/lances, hand guns, machine guns, rifles, bazookas, and shot guns. This is just a partial list, though.
  • The Ignis character (the guy with the glasses) is good with assist-style attacks. He can toss knives at enemies.

Nice selection of weapons :wacky: but with Noctis being able to use all and the other party members having restricted weapon selection is unfair :ness:. Hope there is at least another two more playable chracters in the game to come. (I'm expecting a dragoon after all this talk). Ignis tossing knives at enemies.......sounds interesting. :hmmm:

Though I do want SE to show Noctis warping and using invisible swords just like the previous trailers.......It would look awesome on the battlefield.

Also I'm sure they've said Nomura or Kitase said all characters will be controllable but how? :hmmm: in the trailers they did show just one character being controlled. Wonder how they'll be switched? (better not pause the screen and switch like in FFXII)

Like I said when the leader dying = game over aspect was revealed for FFXIII way back, I'm used to it from playing the Persona games (maybe others too, I'm sure). It sucks, but it's workable.

No group attack isn't something I really cared about, but I guess there might be some chaining aspect then? I'm curious to see just how fast character swapping in mid battle will actually be (like FFX?).

The higher difficulty default is set so I cant wait to see how this will be a challenge. Noctis dies and it is game over? Final Fantasy XIII style but meh it should be alright. That is a wide variety of weapons. :ryan:

have no problem with main character death k.o. You cant' make a fast pace game without it and it's a new approach, everyone just want to see FF1-10 in next gen.

great...... if i die... game over..... for god sake there's like 6 other party members ..... it like if the leader drops dead everybody else drops dead and catchs flu or something...... or death virus....... errrrrrrrr square get ur facts right

Interesting.

Your weapon selection will include: swords, axes, spears/lances, hand guns, machine guns, rifles, bazookas, and shot guns. This is just a partial list, though.
I suppose this makes sense really. In the original trailer they all had guns when shooting at Noctis. As they say, don't bring a knife to a gunfight.

You can bring party members back to life if they die. The only exception is Noctis. If he dies, the game is over.
Fantastic. :ffs: I'm almost sure this is why they made Final Fantasy XIII so, so easy.

The difficulty is being set towards the high end.
Means nothing. They said that about Final Fantasy XIII too and it was the complete opposite.
