[08/03] Tomb Raider sells 1 million copies in under 48 hours

Tomb Raider, which is also known as Tomb Raider 9 or ‘the reboot’, has sold over 1 million copies in under two days, according to an administrator on the official Eidos forums.


The admin posted a thread titled, “TR9 sales hits 1 million after < 48 hours!"


The game has also been deemed a critical success by many, as it scored an average of 86 across all three platforms on Metacritic.


Tomb Raider, released on March 5, is available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Wow! That's pretty awesome! I knew it was gonna be a good seller, but not that good! XD

I guess the promoting and advertising paid off big time. That sounds very impressive. It's only gonna get more and more sales as the days go on.

Also happy about the scores it got. I wanted to play it either way, but those ratings it got just made me even more excited! XD
 
I am truly not surprised. The game really is fantastic imo. I am almost going to finish it, but so far it has just been a great game. I really do not have complaints except the fact that you cannot travel anywhere else and you are permanently on the island. I guess it makes sense since

That, and it is her origin story. Damn though... she sure has one hell of an origin story! She practically needs to be a badass to deal with all the recruited Solarii. I love this Lara.

Haha it really goes to show how she turns into a survivor.

Apart from some deja vu from UC3, I think the game is great and certainly well written. Since they reached this milestone they already confirmed a new TR is in the works. I hope that they can continue from TR Underworld personally. If not, just make the 2nd one have harder tombs.
 
Very, very good news to me. Pre-ordered the game on a whim about a week before release and I've really enjoyed it alot. I heard so much negative things and complaints about the game and it made me doubt how well it would do.

After finishing the single player campaign I can safely say I would be there for a second game. Day one. It's most likely going to happen.

What a joyride.

I bought it day one because it interested me after seeing some previews I was convinced. This game was worth every penny.

Tomorrow imma try MP but yeah I dont really like third person MP though.. :p

Lara kicked ass. :ohoho:

Yeah there are some similarities there, game mechanics and a whole lot more. I like that there's more emphasis on survival here than the older series. It really puts you in the mood to keep going, salvage for upgrades, figure out ways to get from one place to another, etc. It's a pretty big package deal for me. The environment and music are excellent as well.

Yeah, I am just picking up relics, gps caches, and documents along the way. I really started using my map about 5 hours in and I never even fast traveled once yet, Why hard mode? I even find normal quite challenging. Yup I pretty much aim to do everything in this game. Multiplayer really is a rip off of UC though.

Oh and I agree that there really is emphasis on survival since there is a camp pretty much every new location. I love the music and the environment as well. Most excellent indeed.

I am glad you are enjoying the game though, Mits. Hope you have been doing the ridiculously easy tombs. I am quite sad I notice them within 3 mins and sometimes even 30 seconds.
 
I agree there are like 7 tombs total maybe even less (I didnt count) not enough tombs and so short and easy puzzles except later in the game some are bit harder semi-hard xD.

I tried MP its fun I guess but third person MP its just not my thing.
Uncharted MP, Max Payne 3 MP and this one and perhaps ME3 MP but it all feels the same.

I used to play mp on Red Dead Redemption at least you had fun story modes.
 
My sister bought the game a few days ago, and I have a friend that plays it as well. They both tell me that Tomb Raider has a fantastic single player, but the multiplayer isn't that great. Did anyone else feel the same way about this installment? I haven't played it myself.
 
That's quite an accomplishment. There was a lot of backlash at first but I'm glad it died down. I can't wait to pick it up for myself.

Because I started the game thinking there would be a trophy for finishing the game on Hard Mode. :ryan: (I was really bummed that I could've earned my first platinum trophy for ME2 had I done Insanity mode; I was only one or two trophies short). I finally checked 3 hours into the game, realized there was no trophy for Hard mode, but I couldn't be bothered restarting and doing Normal mode instead. I'm in Shanty Town and those guys were hard.

I do agree that the tombs are super easy. I guess that would be my only disappointment.

Same here :( And there're not a lot of tombs to explore. Would have liked the game better with more tombs, and more importantly, tombs with rewards that are different from the usual.

It helps little that the rewards are always a larger portion of scavenge. And always no enemies in tombs. I would have appreciated a little surprise... The path into the tombs are perfect spots for jumpscares. Even though I later realized there are always no enemies in those tombs, I'd always walk with my pistol out just in case they wanted to try something. Too bad no such thing happened.
 
Just beat this game yesterday and I thoroughly enjoyed the game play! *This is coming from someone who "hated" on the series for quite some time now.* I appreciate how human they have made Lara and it's nice to see the origins of such a legendary character.

I think there was a previous Tomb Raider that served as a prequel to the series, but I think this game did a wonderful job at rebooting the series.

It was also very cool how Lara obtained her infamous two pistols at the end of the game, lol.

I hope everyone else gives this game a shot. Even though I don't excel at action adventure titles, I was able to successfully manage this game on Normal Mode.
 
I'm playing on Hard as well Mitsuki, so don't feel too bad xD.

I'm at least 60 or 80% done by now, I honestly have no clue where the fuck I'm at.

Oh my... and I was going to do a 2nd run on Hard mode. Well, thanks for reminding me and good luck. There are some later parts in the game that are difficult even on normal difficulty. I am at the very very end now I imagine. I just got two places to go and I will probably finish it tonight. I hope you enjoy the rest of the game and survive hard mode.

Upgrading weapons should help a lot. I have the final bow, and I am working on the others. Make sure to always switch weapons if you want the trophy/achievement for every gun.


These last parts are frickin crazy.
