New Zodiac Causes People to Have Shitfits

I really don't care if mine changed or not. It still got my character wrong (Leo), though I do like lions (this is the only reason why I like it xD).

Serpent-bearer? If I remember correctly, isn't the Ophiuchus based on a real person called Imhoteep(probably spelled it wrong xD)?

If this Zodiac changes, I wonder how people will react to it. :/
Because some of this doesn't sound very nice :(
  • Many people are envious of this subject as he progresses well throughout life.
  • A seeker of wisdom and knowledge
  • Many people are jealous of this person
  • Tends to go for the more flamboyant in dress sense, favouring bright colours.
  • Authority looks upon him well.
  • Would make a great architect or builder.
  • Number 12 is this persons lucky number. (2012! This new sign will cause the end of the world! T.T)
  • This person will have a big family but leave home at an early age.
...yeah. I was a born a Scorpio and I'll die a Scorpio. People can't just change these things as it suits them...well, they can, they just shouldn't expect me to go along with it.
That's how I feel about this :P

This guy sums it up rather well. Also, apparently, unless your 2 years old or younger, this doesn't effect you.

And then someone on my fb mentioned that it's supposed to be affecting people only after 2006. What sense does that make? Why does it only affect certain people after a random year? Shouldn't it affect everybody or nobody?

Well personally I've never held much stock by astrology, but I would be curious to know what people think about this when they find out that the zodiac personality profiles they once thought described them, didn't actually apply to them. I mean what if someone champions a particular trait, going "Yeah yeah, I'm a ______, I'm (adjective) and (adjective)!" and then finds out that it's the wrong sign, and the new description is completely different? Can astrology still really hold up for them at that point, or will they merely try to find some way to associate themselves with the new one?

I would think a lot of people might lose faith in it as a result of this :hmmm: However, whenever I've read such descriptions, I've also found myself able to associate with at least 6 or 7 different signs, or found that mine is not as correct as one at the opposite end of the year, because many astrological things are somewhat generically written :hmmm:
I was very upset because Virgo doesn't describe me for shit. It's only about 10% accurate, but on the other hand, Libra was over 9000% correct. The bottom line was they took personality test of people of that sign, so given a matter of time, the personality will change as a description for each one. I think. I hope. Because Virgo's sound annoying :hmph:

Maybe it's like the weighing system in this country - if you're over a certain age (i.e. my parent's age) then you measure things in pounds and ounces. If you're under a certain age, you measure things in...uh, whatever it is we're supposed to measure stuff in now. Grams, Kilograms, Stone, etc.

So, pretty much everyone here who doesn't give a shit (that is pretty much everyone, right?) will use the old, proper zodiac signs. Those kids with their new, hip stuff will use the new, crap zodiac signs.

I think it only affects people who were born after 2006 because they're the only ones who won't know any different...after all, when you're five years old, do you really care about your star sign? Of course not! You have far more important things to concern yourself with - like becoming a Power Ranger, or putting things up your nose, or watching that scary lady in Balamory. Bugger star signs :mokken:

I know but 2006 is such an obtuse age. Why not make it applicable to people only born this year, since it's introduced this year? Or why not at the start of the decade at 2010? It's just very... random.

Serpent-bearer? If I remember correctly, isn't the Ophiuchus based on a real person called Imhoteep(probably spelled it wrong xD)?

Imhotep, the Egyptian high priest and physician (and architect, and so on...), turned god (after death). I'm not sure if the constellation of Ophiuchus is meant to be married to Imhotep. I think it's meant to be the constellation in honour of Asclepius (among many other things - for there's often more than one story behind these things), the ancient Greek god of medicine and healing, of whom it had been said himself was once a physician (and some have stated Imhotep and Asclepius to be the same man due to the similar circumstances of origin, with Imhotep being more firmly placed in history, while Asclepius survived via myth and traditional attribution, etc).

Asclepius' rod with a snake entwined around it (today's widely used medical symbol) is, I believe, a symbol for Ophiuchus too.

I guess what the constellation is depends on who you talk to, though. It could represent a man using a snake as a skipping rope for all I know. :gasp:

As for the main topic at hand... I don't care. :brooding:

Astrology being bogus isn't even the issue for me. I just have never cared in the first place, and this news essentially states that no-one who is old enough to care has to care anyway, for we all stay the same.

I just hope that people don't see the fact that there are now 13 horoscope zodiacs as a sign that we are cursed, and we are nearing our demise in 2012! :O

I don't believe it, and I don't care for it.

My birthday is January 16th, and I'm a capricorn. Thank you very much.

I'm born on the 7th of August I've been a Leo all my life and some stinky ol' scientist ain't gonna change that. :mokken:

Besides, I'm pretty sure since I follow the Tropical Zodiac... I'm still a Leo;

unless you all follow the Sidereal zodiac...

which I'm still confused on :wacky:

You had to remind me didn't you? :jimberry:

I can't believe I spelled it wrong xD

Well, I just did a little searching and it seems it is based on Imhotep. Well, I'm not sure if the sites are trustworthy though:

I wouldn't 100% trust those. I think one of the things with astrology websites is that they try to combine universal things and mix them together, or just fabricate stories or twist the facts / ignore what may still be an unknown (though to be fair that is just the way with websites in general a lot of the time). Here these websites take the leap that Imhotep IS Asclepius, rather than merely having their cults connected and identified with each other on a basis of similarity.

(EDIT - On reflection, all of that has little relevance to the astrology anyway.)

Oh, I see. :D I read your post, but I didn't read the quoted part at length so I missed that.

Nyeh I don't really care because I'm not into that sort of thing, but apparently instead of being a Virgo I am now a Leo.

Steve was a Leo and is now Cancer.

Would have been good if the dates worked out and we could have both been a Leo. XD

But I really don't know why they bothered fiddling around with the Zodiac after all these years. It's a bit silly. They've only upset people who actually care about it.
