I've seen lots of older people sexually attracted to young characters in Anime recently, like girls as young as 10. That's pedophilia, right?

When I tell them it is, they act offended and start ranting about it being normal, despite them being in their 20s-30s and the character(though fictional)is under 14.

Am I the only one that gets freaked out from this?

EDIT: Also, I've seen people enjoy watching these characters interact with other young children sexually. Which is... disgusting...

I think it is the same, honestly. They're still children and adults are still attracted to them. The characters even look immature.

though in anime, almost every character besides the ones with huge chests look like they're under 14 anyway

plus are these anime characters the age you say they are most of them look young anyway..........but their age,well really in the cartoons are like 18...........

what I'm saying is most of them look young as in 13/14 but in the cartoons are meant to be 18/19.

The ony thing that separates the two situations is that one is fictional. If someone is having thoughts for a child it's the same thing.

i agree with what everyone says, unless they are physically attracted to children IRL, it's not CONSIDERED pedophilia, however it's kind of disturbing, especially if the characters LOOK very immature/young. Wouldn't call them a pedophile to their face though unless they make similar statements about real children, and even then wouldn't say it to their FACE, besides, they could be joking some of them
 
I highly doubt it could be classed as "paedophilia" for the sole fact that it's anime, not real life. Really, if anyone gets off watching children in anime then they need their head looking at anyway, it's just not illegal.

You could go into technicalities of whether the child is under 16 and the accused over 16 and is there a five year difference between them etc but it's more than likely that's it's unimplementable to anime.
 
Lolicon is not pedophilia and it never has been. They involve very different mindsets with separate groups of people and are only loosely related by one ideal.

Never mind that lolicon never actually harms anyone and therefore can hardly be argued to be immoral...

It's like comparing people who play Counter Strike with mass murderers. Yes there is "shooting" involved with both but you can hardly equate the two...

Apparently if its published and brought into countries with through customs its controlled, Im talking about games there, but the internet is a different story they can shut down Child pornography rings no problems but they dont seem to care if it involves Anime/hntai characters.

So why individuals may like that kind off thing and individuals disapprove its not illegal apparently...........its a technical loop hole that and a doozy at that.

Well, I looked up the definition and the gist of it was that it was defined as sexual activity with prepubescent children, but some definitions included thoughts and fantasies. They never specified if it meant with real, human children but the way they were written came off as if they assumed that.

I think someone would have to act on their thoughts to be considered a paedophile anyway. People who think about raping, murdering and stealing aren't rapists, murderers and thieves. I'd rather potential paedos were getting off to cartoons rather than real kids TBH.

I'm in two minds about this one really. Part of me would say that it depends on how graphic in nature the anime/manga is. If we're talking about someone getting off on something rather innocent such as a young character protrayed in a non-sexual manner, then I suppose that's okay. If however we are talking animated sex scenes including young characters, then I think brushing off people who are into this as "non-pedophiles" right off the bat, would be ignoring all kinds of danger signals.

On the other hand I don't think cartoons, no matter how graphic in nature they are, can be sidelined with actual child pornography. Actual child pornography is the result of sexual abuse of real live children, and you have to be one sick jaded pervert with little to no sense of empathy to get off on that. Anime, even if it includes children in compromising situations, is completely victimless and to me that makes a big difference.
